Soweit so standardmäßig.

Tekken: The Motion Picture is possibly the worst anime I have ever seen, rivaling Beyblades in shabbiness. In fact it was that bad that after I had watched it my mind have created some mental block and I totally forgot about this show's existence. Have I not wandered on this show in anidb.net by a chance, I wouldn't have even remembered it.

Everything from pathetic story to laughable characters is of lowest quality. It saddens me to think that this is what came out to be a movie out of one of the best 3d fighting game franchises. Maybe it's a good thing that Guilty Gear anime never seen day's light, were it turned out to be like this I would've had to cut myself. Fighting choreography is horrible, while sound effects which follow those scenes are simply crappy. Kazuya basically beats everyone in one or two punches, usually in the very same pattern.

Even if you love fighting animes, even if you love Tekken, don't watch this show. If you are indifferent with Tekken's franchise the movie will only annoy you, while if you love Tekken you'll be just saddened by this horrible thing of an adaptation.

I notice my ratings is actually higher than the average for this, heh. I guess it's cos I'm a fan of the game, and this review is written almost soley from my "fan" point of view, so those unfamiliar with the game will probably not understand most of the bullsh*t I talk about here :P

Tekken, possibly my favourite console game of all time. And so when I heard about the anime, I looked forward to watching it with great anticipation. Anticipation that gradually faded as I came across review after review on it. All negative ones. Still, I can't deny that I still went into this quite excited at the prospect of watching the movie adapted from my favourite console game. If this was as good as the Street Fighter II movie, then I would have been happy.

Unfortunately, it was not. In fact it was barely half as good as the SF II movie. What a disappointment. It had trouble coming up with captivating fighting scenes; it had trouble staying true to the game ("Tekken tournament is a tournament that's held every year"... wtf?! Even the closest two tournaments were supposed to be 2 years apart); heck, it even had trouble deciding WHICH of the Tekken tournaments it was supposed to be set in. The storyline of Kazuya trying to overthrow his father is taken from the first Tekken story, but all the characters: Jun, Roger the kangaroo, Ganryu the sumo wrestler, Michele the Indian girl etc are all from the Tekken 2 period, which was supposed to be about Heihachi reclaiming his throne from his devil son Kazuya. And the stuff about Mishima Empire taking over everything sounded suspiciously like it's based on an extract from the background of Tekken 3. Did they even TRY to not contradict material from the games?! Why did Namco even allow this "movie adaptation" to happen?! Maybe someone who hated the game made this to smear tar on the name of the franchise, because I have trouble believing any fan of the game would butcher it in this way.

I looked forward to a great fighting anime, looked forward to watching the characters I know so well from the game battling it out. What did I get instead? Lame battles that only lasts a couple of blows - Kazuya made the most of the battles look so easy it's not even worth watching. The lengendary rivalry between the William sisters resulting in a dual was criminally cut short by uninvited guests, just as it was starting to get good too. Other well known characters such as Paul (the blond guy in the red judo outfit, for those of you unfamiliar with the game) and Law (the fighter in the chinese outfit... even I had trouble recognising him) we didn't see fighting at all in the anime. In fact, they weren't even introduced by names. They just sort of appeared in the background occasionally, as the camera panned across the collection of fighters. And of course... no signiture moves. Where's nina's "Blond Bomb"? Where is Paul's "Phoenix Smasher" and Baek (the Tae Kwan Do guy)'s "Hunting Hawk"? All the elements that should have been in an anime based off a fighting game just wasn't there. And it's not like they replaced it with better stories and characters either. It just basically left an empty hole that didn't get filled up. I mean, the whole thing is less than an hour long, so it's not as if they didn't have the space to fit in the extra (or even essential) details.

Only thing that possibly makes it worth a single watch for fans of the game (if you aren't familiar with the game, don't even bother thinking about watching this) is the visualisation of some of the events that happened during the story of the first two "King of Iron Fist" tournaments, piecing together and explanding on the small fragments of info that was given as the background to the games. I especially liked the way the anime interpretted the event about Kazuya being thrown off the cliff event. It almost makes sense. But ofc, it's explanations are somewhat devalued by the lack of accuracy on some of the other events.

At the height of its success, the Tekken series may have obtained a reputation that's possibly comparible to the lengendary status of the classic Street Fighter II game, but as a movie, The "King of Iron Fist Tournament" falls far faaaar short of the quality of the Street Fighter II movie, which I still think is the "King of all movie adaptations of beat-em-up games".

This "anime" really tried too hard on making itself similar to the game. It even tried to include most of the characters through the whole storyline, making each fight like a one-on-one competitive match. Even Kazuya was portraying the "bad and non-caring" persona with only one objective, can be so bland and rigid. Aside from its animation, I can’t imagine recommending this.

I'm currently on a swing now - I am dealing off with the anime from my "low ones" list. Here is a sad reminder of my previous stupidity, when I actually expected fighting anime to be worth sth. Well Tekken was among those good anime whom I have watched and whose worked as a wonderful (though sharp and painstakingly tough) cure.

Plus - I have made a terrible mistake here of never actually playing the game. Therefore I was not so thrilled that hero A used combo B against hero C while he could use sth else.

Therefore I say to You:
IF YOU ARE NOT A FAN OF TEKKEN DO NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO IT RISKING SANITY AND HEALTH AND HAVING POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SUICIDAL TRIES LATER ON!

Otherwise... who knows - You might EVEN find it to Your liking...

On to the details then.

I watched this series a really really long time ago, and I liked at a lot. After reading the reviews it had, I seriously had to go back and make sure I thinking of the same darn series.

After going back and giving it a second look, I'm much less generous, but I still like it. Also, I am a huge fan of the viedogames. I thought this complemented it well. Sure, don't watch it with too high expectations, because it won't fufill them, but dang, I found it fun to watch.

The animation is really outdated, outdated for 1998 when it was made even. But I think it still got the point accross well enough.

The fight scenes really made it cool though. It was random, often porly animated, cheesy, but I enjoyed them. What really rocked it was the near halarity of the fighting characters. Those people would go at it with all kinds of stuff. It is the King of Iron Fists Tournament, but they have grenades, androids, and dinosaurs.

The story wasn't very expansive. It was only trying to overlap with the games in certain parts, but as a fan of the series, I enjoyed watching this animated portrayl.

There is very brief nudity, a very nice addition.

In conclusion, this is cheesy as they come, but if you're totally ADD like me, you couldn't find something better to do with 60 min of your life.

Had their been rusty spikes near me right before I watched this movie, I would have gladly used them to gouge my eyes out rather than watch this crapfest. Quite possibly the worst anime ever. The animation is cheap, the art sucks, the characters have about as much personality as their video game counterparts, and Im not even going to start on the story. Dont see this, it will make you hate anime.

Wow.

Like Street Fighter, I am a big fan of the game series, and expected to see the average story of the game perhaps portrayed in a better light here.

I was dead wrong.

Tekken is awful in almost every way it can be. The ONLY thing about this movie that follows the game correctly, is Heihachi's tournament, and the conception of Jin Kazama at the end of the movie. Everything else seems out of place. Characters not being built up at all, some ignored completed, others built in the wrong directions.

The only saving grace for this terrible video game translation was its soundtrack, again, following SFII's lead, and licensing popular Rock and Metal bands to do a few tracks.

Even if you're in love with the Tekken game series, stay the hell away from this one. If you need a fighting game based anime, go with Street Fighter II.

This is the worst anime I ever seen. The only reason I saw it was because I love the game. But they had to make a story that belongs to some of the crappiest B-movies that can be found. The best thing with this anime is the animation that isn't wery good either. I doesn't want too see this anime again!!!

Turning a videogame into an anime isn't a great idea to begin with, but it can be done properly such as in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. Tekken is just a disgrace both to the game and to anime in general. Everything about it screams mediocrity, from the animation and audio to the story at the most basic level.

Don't let the slick animation fool you. Tekken is the worst of all fighting game based anime shown yet and features every flaw of a bad fighting game anime: bad fight scenes, a rushed plot, a limited number of characters covered, and atrocious rock music. Giving this trash a higher score than it deserves would insult my being as an anime fan.

Hmmm what can I say... I don't often rate animes that bad, or see them as well but unfortunately this one ranks as one of those.

Ofcouse we have to take into consideration that animes based on fighting games have in most cases failed to capture the essence onto a series or film. However in this case, not even that consideration can save Tekken.

The animation is very average, bordering between bad and good at times. In a lot of cases the animation was very sketchy.

The sound was mediocre which did no help to the already sub standard animation and story.

The story was boring and sometimes ridiculous to say the least. The plot was so thin that it was bearly able to carry the entire length of the film.

The characters faired a bit better, but again was very poor with little or no development into them.

In conclusion this is a poor show which does nothing more then to further enhance the already skeptical view of fighting animes based on games.
Watch this if you REALLY like Tekken.

-_-;

Quite good for beign a fighting-anime. The story is as thin as a carborn paper, but the story is never the pain point in a fighting-anime, right?
The strong points of this anime is the quite okay fights where they do not throw atom-bombs a la Dragon Ball - heck - not even fireballs. I've always liked parts of realism to my fighting scenes and I am not impressed by epeleptict flashing.

This is an embarassement to those who produced it, with a plot that is limp. The dubbed voices just got on my nerves and im glad I paid nothing for this. Didnt even finish it, just skipped thru it.

Well...guess i should had listened to those reviews i read before about how horrible this movie is. Guess what, there is no movie worse than this. I almost died watching the movie, and the reason why i watched this movie in the first place is because i liked the games. But fuck where the hell is Hworang?!!?!! hes the greatest. Theres no anime movie worse than this, it was average, and little enjoyable. It may be good to others but it will never be called a motion picture.

Why god, why? Is this....thing...really anime? Bad waste of download time, it isn't even good enough to be pirated and then distributed.

Tekken has somewhat of a nice opening, then, the real thing starts...well, not really. I mean, the ONLY thing you'd expect from an anime based on a fighting game is RAW FIGHT SCENES. Street Fighter II delivers them in spades. Tekken has one(!!!) whole punch which is brought onto the screen nicely and might have been a good punch if it had been part of a good fight. That was the climax of the whole series when it comes to action scenes. Think it's no big deal? YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT!!! Hamtaro has more action than this piece of crap, and perhaps that's still an understatement.
Don't rent, buy, or even download this. Use it only to torture other people.

If you like the game, try to keep it that way and ignore the excistense of this movie.

Once in a while somone makes a really great Anime, and once in while somone makes an Anime capable of killing you from just watching it. This Anime is definately the latter of the choices.

Dear God, I hope this "Anime" would just vanish off the face of the Earth. Though, I suppose since there are still terrorists who could use it to threaten mankind, it won't be going away anytime soon.

Pretty much everything about this movie was crap and a half. The game even has a MUCH better story.

Don't just avoid this Anime, run, hide, and pray you never see it.

I'm a big fan of the video game and when I saw this, I lowered my head in shame.
The worst video game to anime I've seen! The fight scenes were god awful and so was the animation. The only thrill fans will get is that it does feature most of the cast from the first two games. If you want to see a better version of fighting games turned to anime, check out Darkstalkers OVA or Street Fighter II V. At least the animation and characters are better than this mess.
