Well to start off I'm gonna honestly say that I haven't watched the series, just started off with the OVA (1 and 2). Strange as it may sound, it's not exactly my fault seeing as I can't really influence what Animax broadcasts. Well as long as I did understand it I guess it's ok right *smiles*

So to begin with the animation was really good. The story was also pretty great, especially the romantic part between Miyaka and Tamahome (or Taka). The songs were really good too, coming in at just the right times.

I also really liked Tamahome's friends. A great bunch of interesting characters, each with their own unique personality and all really loyal to each other and Tamahome.

And just Miyaka and Tamahome's undying love is oh-so-cute and makes watching it totally worthwhile.

Unlike the first OVA, this one is actually based on the original story by Yuu Watase (manga vol 14-18). This is quite obvious from the emotion and strength of the storyline, although there are a few aspects of it that have been messed about with and if made as it should have been, the story would have got a much higher rating from me.

---Note Same review on all FY OVAs---

-OVA1-

Extremely boring as I hardly had an idea of what was going on. The characters are as bland as ever. There is virtually no comedy which was the only redeeming quality of the tv series. The only reason I bothered starting the OVA was for the sake of finishing the series. The story is downright moronic and it is extended needlessly. Oh and Miaka is still annoying as ever.

-OVA2-

The OVA is more or less a continuation which follows the events of the the first OVA. The dastardly villians strike back and another round meaningless "adventure" of the Celestial warriors fighting to save the both worlds. The most horrible of all OVAs. Another rape attempt on Miaka (GAWD!!!!).

-OVA3-

The best of all since Miaka goes in a coma and is pretty much nonexistent. The improvement is massive as the other characters can finally shine in the series. The story is a bit better and has little to do with the last two OVAs. Thus it puts the end to the entire FY saga in a better light. The story can get repetitive with its formulaic plot form which involves battling the "fake gods" as soon as one more Celestial warrior is discovered. Still I have to admit this was more enjoyable than the rest.

--Conclusion on all OVAs--
The OVAs are definitely made for diehard fans of the series. If you didnt enjoy the series that much there is no point in watching this as it is pretty much of the same thing over again with same themes and plot lines from the tv series.

So the first OVA was just a preview for this. So is the OVA2 even worse? I thought so but was pleasantly surprised.

So the story is still the same Tamahome/Miyaka drama that was pretty much the heart of the tv series. But in addition we learn more about some of the suzaku seven, like Chihiri's past, it was about time they told what happened and see a new side to Tasuki. This makes it much more interesting to watch. I wish they had spent more time on Taka/Tamahome conflict but sadly it's over before it started.

So more of same Fushigi Yuugi that's already so familiar with a bit more coherence than with the first OVA. The best part is again the funny cartoons at the end. I'm just chuckling when I think about them.

Maybe a little too much of love LOL

The story cont. from the first OVA. That evil guy you though he already death is not dead anc come back to revenge all of you! Now what our hero have to do in this story? Well first he have love Miaka(of coruse) second he must defend Miaka from evil(duh) the last but not the least, he must overcome his fear(X2duh). After he done teh following things, then somehow magically our hero and heroine will beat the evil guy in a flash. Everythign back to normal, everyone happy, and this time they add the word that we been waiting for "The End"

Was jetzt kommt dürfte aufmerksamen Zuschauern der 1.

For those of you that could get past the sickening drama of the third episode, clap yourselves on the back. I know it was a real feat.

The story continues, and there's even more whining. However, unlike the first three episodes, viewers are learning a bit more about the characters.

I particularly liked Hotohori's and Chichiri's back-stories. Especially Hotohori's...but the omake theater was better. It was the funniest one. :) Chichiri's back-story was interesting, too. Viewers learn about his oh-so mysterious past.

Anyways, this nine episode OVA wasn't bad to watch. However, the best part of the series are the Omake theaters. Recommended only to Fushigi Yugi fans.

Far too romance-centered for me, and this time I really got sick of Miaka.

Almost as good as the TV series, better than the first OVA (the description is for the first OVA, no this one). The overall story was good but really required more explaination and there were some parts where it jumped to the next topic when there should've been something in between. I agree with Nermac that it seems odd how all the dead people come back, even how they can now touch people (like Nuriko through the bracelets). And if Hotohori really cared for his son, why would he use his son's body to fight a monster? Tasuki's story was good and yet weird. I think it's a good twist but Tasuki didn't make it too good. If you've watched Fushigi Yuugi, this is a definite must watch.

A nice OVA to FY and definitely the best out of the three. There is some decent character development and you learn more about your favourite characters.

I didn't really feel that much for the first few episodes and the story was a little rushed at the end, but overall, I definitely liked the ending. It made me cry buckets - very emotional and moving, just like the series.

A good deal better than the first OVA, but still not really a worthy successor to the TV show.

I personally liked this much better than the first OVA. While I felt that the story was still rushed a little, things were a little more clear. What I liked best about it was that you learned more about the Suzaku Seishi and their past lives. The ending was also better than the first OVA and is a little more conclusive.
