First off, I would like to say that I don't understand why people gave such low scores for this anime. This wasn't that bad, but decent.

Background wasn't greatly detailed, but it was full of color. There's also no white blurring to mess up the scenes. Characters weren't the best drawn I've seen, but they were solid and colorful with vibrant shading and lighting. There wasn't anything spectacular or flashy. Basically, animation is typical for an anime made in 2002, just that the characters' faces weren't too good.

There was no opening theme, and the ending theme is slow and calm. Even though it goes well with the pace of this anime, it didn't catch my attention. In-anime music was so subtle, it was almost nonexistent. It was also of the calm piano playing type. Voice actors were average: they didn't show too great of enthusiasm or acting.

It's true that the plot goes no where, but I felt like the makers chose the right events to occur. The story is only about Daisuke losing his grip to draw, and regaining it later. For a two episode anime, this small occurance isn't bad. Anyways, I found that some events in the story just didn't follow up, for example when Amane got upset in the first episode when Daisuke couldn't draw right. When I saw this, I couldn't understand why she was so upset. Daisuke could have just move on to something else. Besides that, events sometimes occurred in the incorrect order. For example, later in the show, which instead should have been in the beginning of the show, Daisuke's condition was made sense when I found out that he was great at drawing. So obviously, there are problems with the story, but in spite of that, I liked the things that occurred, like in the ending where there was a surprise for Amane in the gallery. Overall, the story has a nice love relationship, but it was often predictable, nonsensical, or useless like the sex scenes. I mean the story didn't need that to make the anime good, but it did grab my attention.

Characters are very typical. There's the kind guy who has a problem, but fixes it by the end of the anime; the innocent tag-along girl that falls in love with the main character guy; and other characters that like the main character guy because he did something nice for them. They're all very typical for a harem, and even for an anime. Besides that, I found little character development. For example, when Daisuke overcomes his problem, he just overcomes his problem, with little insight on his issues of the problem or the overcoming. But all in all, the characters aren't a bad bunch: they're at least likable.

Canvas is just another harem anime. If you're looking for something special and unique, you're not going to find it here. Everything is very typical. Re-watch and collectable values are very low, since it's very typical and only consisting two episodes. The subs I got, from Anime-Force (which is probably the only good one you're going to find), were just horrible. I felt like what they're saying, even though I don't understand Japanese, is not what the subs is saying. I even noticed Anime-Force got different translations for the same occurence (the part when Daisuke says "she's my first love" or "I wasn't you're first love"). Even so, I like harem and love stories, and thus found this enjoyable.
