| Good Morning Call is actually one of my favorite shoujo manga series to date. It somewhat disappointed me to figure out that they only made an OVA of the series considering the nice storyline and progression that could have been developed with a full series. Yet, when it came down to watching it, I thought "Why not?"
The result left me feeling a bit lukewarm- 'tis not a bad OVA, but I feel a lot was shortchanged, and stand-alone, it's not that strong.
The animation quality for Good Morning Call, a 2001 series, was quite average. The characters transitioned well from the manga, though, so that's something I'll give to the series, yet for contemporary standards, it may not be up to par in terms of cel production-for its time, I can argue that it was right along with some of its peers.
Sound: almost non-existant. The voice acting was very nice, but there were no OP/ED themes to speak of (at least not in the version I watched) nor were there any memorable themes in-series or BGM.
The story focuses on Nao and Uehara, two unfortunate teens who happen to be the victims of a apartment ploy-Nao expects to be living alone in a nice apartment, only to find her roommate is indeed a boy! As a result, she has to keep her living circumstances a secret from her classmates and her family. This OVA touches on this briefly, but goes more into how Nao forgot Uehara's birthday, and takes only a little bit of the story from the manga.
I would have actually liked to see this as a full shoujo series, because like most OVAs, it shortchanges the characters and story to a great extent, and doesn't do justice to the original work. For those who don't know the manga, they wouldn't really know what was going on and feel thrown full force into the story without much expansion. It's cute nonetheless, but it leaves you wanting much, much more.
Uehara and Nao are shown mostly in capacity, but characters like Abe and Uehara's sister aren't given as much focus in this series, and they were rather important characters in the manga, to be sure. (Not to mention more fun :P )
Granted, I love slice of life stories, but even for a single OVA, this wasn't enough to satiate my interest.
I recommend this more towards those who have read the manga, and for those who want a one-shot romance story. Yet, if you want closure or more expansion upon the characters, this won't be the series for you.

| Another short OVA that's just a snippet of a manga by Yue Takasuka - Good Morning Call. This is one of those stories that you really wish could have been a long running series and it would have made a really heart warming tale along the lines of Marmalade Boy etc.
Anyway, as we all know by now, these little things are created purely for the fans of the manga to see their favourite characters brought to life in an anime and for that purpose it works really well.
You're thrown into the middle of the story, which is about a very sweet teenage relationship between Nao and Uehara and in this instance it tells how Nao accidentally forgets Uehara's birthday and how he spends the next day pouting about it. It's a very typical, sweet shoujo romance story and although you know so little about them and a whole host of "other" characters are thrown at you left right and centre, it was still very enjoyable and worth the 20 minutes it takes to watch it.
Note the words "typical" and "shoujo" and don't bother watching if you're not into sweet shoujo romances!!

| Well, I'm glad I saw this. At first, I was really overwhelmed with all the character introductions (it's a pet peeve of mine when a character is introduced simply by writing their name at the bottom of the screen). But then, once the main story started, I really fell for it. I have a weakness for shoujo anime, and this was 20 minutes of nothing but pure, sugary shoujo anime. If you're the same as me in that respect, you'll adore this.
Yeah, it hops in at what I'm assuming is somewhere in the middle of the manga, but it's not difficult to pick up. it's obviously a present for fans of the manga. It would be best to see this in a longer format, but for a sample into the world of 'Good Morning Call', this does it's part.

| So langsam aber sicher fangen 1 Episoden OVAs mir mehr und mehr zu missfallen. Sie sind meistens zu kurz, besitzen keine Substanz und sind so gut wie nie besonders erinnerungswürdig. Good Morning Call fällt ebenfalls in diese Sparte.

| Hm... short and sweet. It reeked of cuteness. Yuck. Just a couple of teenagers, and the typical situation of one of them forgetting the other one's birthday.
The story was undeveloped, confusing, too short and had way too many characters. The main female character was oh so sweet and goody-goody... and, of course, she annoyed the crap out of me. All I ever heard was 'kawaii! kawaii!' from every character, this including the girl's best friend and the boy's work colleage. In other words, all the characters were pathetic in some way. And defenitely not likable; except, perhaps the guy, that was not as histerical as the rest.
Well, overall this was terrible. It lacked everything, from originality, to story and character background, and even a real plot. Not worth anyone's precious time, I believe.

| its good, but there's nothing much to it.. as there is only 1 oav...
the background are pretty cool, somewhere i noticed... and the chracters are cute and funny...
the oav was mainly about nao forgetting her boyfriend's birthday.. (which is not a big deal ^^ )
and thats pretty much about it..
Rated PG
