| It's amazing how much potential these little things have, how high they aim and finally...how horrible they fall flat on their faces with nothing more to show except pretty animation and beautiful music that sticks with you.
I'm not about to start comparing this to the full-length series because I simply see no use in doing such a thing. The series has its own story-line that's developed quite nicely because it has time to be developed. Or, this short OVA had great ambitions with its ... aham... cool story about destinies, wishes, regrets, lies and friendship...but has absolutely no time to develop anything (I believe I've said this in ALL of my reviews on short OVAs). So, what's left?
A decreptive shell of an anime, devoid of all things that make an anime good, except the production values.

| The only conclusion I can come to regarding this OVA is it must have been made up by the anime creators themselves, as it has nothing to do with any part of the original Clamp manga creation; Magic Knight Rayearth!
I guess you could call it an "alternate retelling" of the original story and although it does have some major flaws compared to the TV series, it is an enjoyable stand alone anime, with more than it's fair share of beautiful characters (and I'm not talking about the girls *lol*).
You could say it's a bit like the difference between Escaflowne TV and Escaflowne the movie; where the same characters are used, but have very different personalities and backgrounds!

| Well... I'm pretty new to Magic Knight Rayeart, in fact I've never seen the series or read any manga.
I thought the story was a bit confusing. It all happened pretty fast, and I was just...Woah! Not much is said about the characters; sometimes they seem to just pop up in the story, and later you'll get an incomplete explanation about why they're there. We aren't allowed to know much about their backgrounds, but I suppose that's because the story had to begin and end in 3 episodes. So, overall, the story is interesting enough, not terribly original, though.
The animation was great and the sound/music was ok, well adapted to the type of story.

| I can't give a bad review to my all time favorite Rayearth. But those OAV were kind of disappointing, I mean, they simply used Rayearth's charas to make something anew. The overall result isn't very bad, but I must admit, those OAV are for Rayearth fans only, most of others whould find them slightly disappointing. Music is very good and noticeable, teachnical features are average for OAV standards.

overall Review not for some one looking for a plot but good for actual make of animation

| So confusing! Why is Eagle Emeraude's brother? Why does Ferio use bugs? Why is Alycone still dressed like an S&M whore? The mix of character roles really threw me off until I realized that this was a completely different story than the TV series. I thought it was just a sequel at first but after being confused to hell and gone I realized that it wasn't. That doesn't make the series bad, just that reusing the same characters with very different roles really confuses those who have watched the TV series (at least it did me). That doesn't make the story bad. I thought it was pretty good, though there were definitely some holes and the series definitely seemed rushed. I don't know how they could've fixed that though considering the story takes place in an uninhabited world with no human contact. Still, I wish this was longer. As such, the characters are all underdeveloped (compared to the TV series) but are still pretty good considering the shortness. Though short, this was still an enjoyable series (especially ep 2). The TV series is far better though.
And binary°unmei, I don't think you're much better off watching the TV series first. It definitely didn't help me.

| Maybe I've been spoiled by the TV series, but I wasn't a huge fan of the OVAs. If I didn't know everything from the TV series, I would have been very confused and probably liked it even less. Since I DID see the TV series, it wasn't that bad. I just feel that the storyline they have built up in the TV series can't be compacted and altered like this without losing a lot of what made it good. Just go watch the TV series, alright? Check my review of that if you need more convincing......

| A darker, more mature timecompressed alternative remake of the Magic Knight Rayearth TV series. The story and some charaters are fundamentally different. Timecompression takes its toll, we don't get to know the characters they just appear from nowhere (like in X the movie), and the story is very hard to follow, barely makes sense to those who don't know the TV series or the manga. The soundtrack is great so is the animation, it's a real pitty that it is so dark I could barely see it.

| I thought that the animation was excellent and it was kinda fun to see most of the characters in a little "what if" situation (Clef was a cutie ^_~) Still, I like the series much better and thought that the OVA moved rather fast and just wasn't as interesting as the series. This is much darker and intense than the series. Still, I think that it is worth a watch.

| It's nice to have just a little more of Magic Knight Rayearth, even though the OVAs have nothing to do with the series.
First off, the Rayearth OVAs come in 3 parts and each progress as Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu gain the power of their spirit beasts, which may I add are amazing! The OVAs are nothing like the series, the series is more fun and colorful, while as the Rayearth OVAs are more intense and don't seem to use any of the cheerful colors seen in the series (to nice effect). The story is well put together, but at the end, it felt like I was missing something, like there could be more to this. There are some surprises in these movies, like the change in character personalities, and subtle changes like all three girls go to the same school now. I feel that a sense of slight character developement was accomplished and was well played out. The animation is wonderful, and the fight scenes are very cool. You have to see this if you call yourself a Magic Knight Rayearth fan!

| This OVA is a shame to the name of the Magic Knight Rayearth series. It lacks everything that is good on the TV episodes, and have all the mistakes. The story has no nexus, the characters are bad developed and twisted.
Even having the name "Magic Knight Rayearth", this piece of junk has nothing related to the original series, besides the design of some characters,
Even so, I have to say that I liked the main music, "All You Need is Love" (no, it is not Beatles). In general, the music and sound effects of this OVAs have same quality of the MKR TV. The animation too, although the other visuals, somehow, are worse, uglier.
