| Following on from where the TV series left of, this is the one OVA you need to see. If you enjoyed everything that the Hunter x Hunter TV series had to offer and want to know how Kurapica deals with the Ryodan in his bid for revenge, then you mustn't miss out on this fantastic OVA.

| This is one of the best Ovas I've ever seen. Its full of action and supense. The story begins where the series has ended. I'll give a short summary.
The story starts with the attempt of Kurapica and the other 3 main characters to capture Ryodan members. Of course, they had to devise a plan first and despatched themselves into two groups. Killua and Senritsu are after group B of Ryodan (3 members who are after the guy who has the fake eyes of the kuruta tribe) while Kurapica and Gon went to the train station to capture Kiroro (he's with another 2 members), Kurapica will use his/her chains and Gon will be the bait. But unfortunately, their plan backfired on them, now they are the ones facing being captured, in short, the hunter becomes the hunted. But then the intelligent Kurapica has devised another plan after the first plan has failed. Now he/she makes a deal with the spider, how will the events turn out?

| I have watched this numerous times, and each time I am equally if not more impressed by everything this original video animation has to offer. In general, there are few other anime episodes which has such a smooth integration if interesting characters, gripping storyline, and action. HxH OVA1 does not necessarily require that the viewer have seen the series in order to enjoy it. The story speaks for itself.
For the Hunter x Hunter fan, this has everything to offer (except for training of Gon and Killua). It has all the mind work of Nen abilities and Nen types, Gon, Killua, Kurapica, and Leorio's team work, the tense conflicts with the Ryodan, etc.
I found the characters of this OVA to be the most interesting aspect. We get to know more about Pakunoda, the origins of the Ryodan, and more of the friendship of Gon's group. I sighed a breath of tense relief after I watched all 8 episodes straight. All the character drama and tension truly was heightened by the individualistic and unique personalities of the Ryodan. Each member has a different way of thought and reasoning, and for them to be put into such a situation truly tested the limits of their group. However, the character chemistry of Gon's group felt a bit lacking as a result of less screen time. All the times Gon was fearless in front of the group of Ryodan made me wonder, "Is he crazy?" They also seemed to force the whole idea of friendship will save all by making Gon and Killua actually say it rather than enact their feelings through normal dialogue. However, because this OVA focused a lot on the thoughts and interactions of the Ryodan, it isn't too much of a flaw.
As for Nen abilities, there isn't as much focus on it compared to the regular series. A lot of it is more theoretical and therefore it definitely is confusing for the non-HxH-watching fan to understand. The more talking oriented nature of this series, with planning, and tense drama could be a potential downfall for certain audiences that are seeking more simplistic enjoyment that the hxh series has to offer. Nevertheless, I still say this truly marks one of the highest points of this series. It brings together all aspects of what HxH has to offer and puts it in a darker light.

| I'm a bit more neutral towards this OVA in the HxH series. I've noticed that most fans felt that this was the best OVA for the series yet, but I found that this one was a bit more difficult to sit through compared the others. I actually had to take a few days break from it halfway through before finishing it off, which is a bit silly since it's only a mere 8 eps in length.

| Continuing where the TV series left off, the Hunter X Hunter OVA starts with the confirmation that the Spiders corpses found by the Mafia were actually fake, probably created by a strong and powerful Nen user in the Manipulation group. Kurapica's overwhelming hatred for the Spiders couldn't be forgiven, and he couldn't hold back on tryig to capture them again. But because he was so reckless, he got his two bestfriends Killua and Gon captured. Though with the help of Leorio and Senritsu, using his awesome nen chain abilities, he managed to capture their leader. Kurapcia thought of a plan to strike a blow deep into the heart's of the Spiders, while trying to rescue Gon and Killua in the process. However, there was one flaw within the Spider organization that completely renders Kurapica's plan useless....
What's interesting about this arc, or rather OVA, is that the main cast from the TV series, such as Kurapica, Leorio, Gon, Killua, and even Senritsu are featured as the protagonists. However, the story seems to revolve more around Pakunoda and her decision to either save the Spiders, or their head, the boss. In fact, it's rather fitting that this arc isn't a part of the TV series, because the atmosphere actually feels much denser and darker, and emits that philosophy of life type of environment you see often in dark animes. It is a direct continuation of the TV series, but this OVA is just so much better and just so much different in many aspects. There's really not much sunlight or happiness to go around, because it's usually night time (in fact, the timeframe of this OVA probably ocurred in one night).
The characters are all the same. Gon is as cheery as usual even in the heat of danger; Killua is still his bestfriend; Leorio is just those annoying type of characters; Senritsu the calm and music loving girl; and our featured character, Kurapica, the person who witnessed his dearest comrades being killed in front of his eyes, now raging in an untouchable flame. However, the main focus should be on the members of the Spiders, especially their relationship between them and Pakunoda's views on it. The final episodes are just so amazing that watching the TV series just to watch this is worth it by itself. Definitely a must see!

| This is, in truth, the ending of the original Hunter X Hunter series, and as that, it is a quality piece of work.

| Hunter x Hunter isnt one of those kawaii drawn anime so it would be unfair to compare it to those. But by judging on the anime series itself you can see that they are improving with the graphics from the original tv series. All the backgrounds were clean and crisp, especially the interior designs of the hotel buildings. And many details were not missed, for example when Kurapica wiped the lipstick off it smudged across his face instead of most anime where it will be gone altogether.
The sound is great like always. The music added more intensity to the battles and trade situations. Plus all the other sounds such as the rain and subway were good too.
The story is a continuation from the tv series so it would make no sense if you did not watch it. Now it focuses more on Kurapica and the Spiders and he has become one of the protagonists. But I thought the ending was still left a bit too open, even though it continues with another OVA, i deducted a mark because as an OVA itself it should have made a few things more specific.
Hunter x Hunter is always amazing in my mind. They planned the events of things really well. I would have enjoyed it more thought if they made a second series for it instead of chopping it all up with OVAs. But this OVA is definately worth rewatching with all the great characters and funny scenes. Hunter x Hunter has definately made it's way up to me top 10 list.

| The first Originally-Video-Animation with Hunter x Hunter, if you have seen the animation, then I know that I dont need to tell you to see it. The way I see it, the OVA is a masterpiece because it is better than the original animation at all points. Even though its a direct followup on the animation, the tense and dark story, combined with hate and confusion, creates a really strange and intresting 8 episodes that nailed me at the screen without any chance of letting go of this exquisit work...

| I should say this right now. I love Hunter X Hunter. It is one of the best animes I have ever seen(top 5 in my book at least). With that out of the way, I did give this anime a high score. But, it is definitly not biased just on this OVA. This score is based off of the entire series. The OVA is just as good as the other parts of the series. Its dark, mysterious, and quite lovely to watch. The animation is soooo much better than the TV eps. The music is also top notch(I love the opening "Pale Ale".) The story is just what you would expect from HxH. It begins exactly where the TV series ends. The characters are all back and they all (with the exception of a few of the Ryodan) get their own good amount of screen time. I didn't really like Pakunoda tho, and they could have taken the time developing her character and giving a little backround for the others in the Ryodan (I wanna know more about that mummy dude. He seems cool. ^_^) Overall, very good anime. But, you MUST watch the TV series if you plan on watching this OVA. And once u finish this anime, plz go and watch Green Island and GI final.

| This is the first of three OVA's. This one continues the Genei Ryodan story arc, where the television series left off.
The mood is pretty much the same as the end of the TV series -- dark and somber. It was all about Kurapica, and nothing about Gon, Killua and Leorio's story. Things were tense to the very end, and left a bitter taste in your mouth for Kurapica. The story is still very much open to more continuation, but if things aren't continued, it's a fitting ending to a great, great arc.
The animation was very good for this OVA. I'm glad that they used traditional cel animation for this in 2002, when most anime have moved on to digicel (which I think sucks).

| If you watched and enjoyed the TV series, then watch this for it is a direct continuation. Picking straight off from episode sixty-two, this OVA concludes Kurapica’s story and revenge against the Ryodan.
The same tension and excitement in the TV series is present here. You’ll fly through this OVA.
The animation is a bit better than the series, and the music isn’t as grating.
Considering that Kurapica’s lust for revenge turned out to be the best part of the TV series, I didn’t mind that eight more episodes were devoted to that. However, the fact that Kurapica is the star, and the two main characters have but supporting roles is probably not something to be admired.
I didn’t like the way villains were portrayed. The OVA tried to use manipulative devices so viewers would sympathize with them. I don’t give a rat’s ass if they’re trying to save their murdering leader. Whoopty-do! These people are full of bloodlust and kill without hesitation….and we’re supposed to FEEL for them? Um….no. Admittedly, Paku’s a great character, but even so, I ultimately had no sympathy for her. Basically, I didn’t like the way the OVA tried to deal with the villains.
The ending was satisfying and a bit surprising. Overall, this is a good OVA, and if you saw the series, you’ll have to watch this if you want more closure.

| Absolutely great. Now that's exactly what the TV series was lacking. While I know there's much more to come, at least this provided a more satisfying ending than the series had. The story is just so well thought out. The characters are incredibly developed. I think that even if you haven't seen the series, you get a pretty good feel for them. I looking very forward to watching the Greed Island OAVs.

| A direct continuation of the TV series where the story focuses on Kurapica's vengence on the Spiders. One of the best revenge stories I've seen. The plot is gripping and the series takes a turn from focusing on Gon and Killua to entirely on Kurapica. Who too is an awesome character; Smart, decisive and calm well most of the time till it comes to dealing with the Spiders making him very unpredictable.
Even though it starts off by an impression of a typical revenge story where the protagonist sets out to avenge his comrade's death by simply killing the people responsible it doesnt quite turn out that way. For sake of not spoiling anything I wont reveal any sort of plot details. If you've seen the Hunter x Hunter TV series then ofcourse this shouldnt be missed.

| The OVA for Hunter X Hunter is just the continuation for the first part of it. This OVA is more focused on Kurapica and how he is planning in getting revenge from the spiders.
The quality of the anime is way much better than the first series, and by quality I mean the drawing and graphics. The draw the characters a little better, but they still have their weird hair style like Gon’s (which I have nothing against it)
The character development is better too because they introduce more of the spider’s members with some background, such as who are they and what is their purpose like Hisoka, who join the spiders so he can fight the leader.
The story line is good, but it seen too short because it was only eight episodes. I had to wait until Green Island came out to see what happens. But overall I really enjoyed watching it, and I will recommend people to watch it.

| The animation in this OVA has improved slightly, but not much.
Besides that, that's the only knock I have for the OVA. It continues off where the series ended, and answers some unanswered questions rather nicely. It is also much darker, as it's Kurapica's revenge on the Spiders, a group who have killed his people.
This is IMO better than the series, because there is no dull moment. It has a good story, and enough action to satisfy. Each episode leaves you hanging with wanting more.
Check this anime out, you won't be disappointed.

| The series ended with sort of an anticlimatic ending, but of course everyone knew it wouldnt stop there. This might not complete the whole "father-quest" that Gon is on, but I would have no major complaints if this was the last part of the series. It creates a spectacular ending.

| Even better than the series.
Animation is the same as the series, the style is wonderful.
The music I like the series more, but then the voice talents are equally great.
The story is follows the manga and continues the series, but this part of the story is even more exciting then the series. I just love HxH storyline and plot.
The main charater is the same, but then this one focuses more on the Spiders, and of course Hunter x Hunter has wonderful character designs that are so wonderful to analyz.
They need to make more than 8episodes after such a long time.

| This is what I was waiting for. A showdown! Though at first I was a little disappointed in how there wasn't a big ol' epic battle right in the middle of the city, I thought the way they ended up doing it was much better. Suspenseful and realistic. Not Terminator or Die Hard. Again, I love the BGM. It's a excellent mood setter. I think this is the best of the HxH . . . trilogy, I guess.
