| Full Moon wo Sagashite is about a twelve year old girl named Mitsuki who wants to be a singer but has throat cancer, which prevents her from singing loudly. Luckily, the two shinigami (Japanese Death Gods), Takuto and Meroko, who are assigned to take her soul decide to help her become a singer during the year that she has left to live. As the series progresses, the three of them help other people with their problems as well as become closer to one another as they go through their own trials and hardships.
While I did end up liking Full Moon, the first fifty episodes are slightly below average. The plot itself is fairly interesting, but there are just so many little annoyances, that they significantly decrease the quality and enjoyment of the series. Let me explain further: Many of the situations in Full Moon are contrived. What I mean is that some event will happen seemingly at random that just so happens to put our main characters in a situation that allows the plot to move forward. It’s as if the creators said, "We need move Mitsuki from point A to point B in the story but we have no idea how to get her there. I guess we'll just have to make something up, even if there is no logical reason for why that 'something' would happen in the first place." Also, the series is extremely repetitive. Mitsuki only has two songs that she sings for the first fifty episodes. You hear one of her songs at least once per episode and sometimes even more frequently. I guess this worked well for Japanese audiences who only were able to watch one episode per week when it aired. However, when you watch two or three episodes in one sitting, you start to get tired of her limited collection of songs rather more quickly. Admittedly, the two songs are pretty good, so my annoyance at having to hear them over and over and over was relatively minor. However, Mitsuki is supposed to be a super popular Japanese idol by midway through the series, even though she only has two songs. How can you be the most popular singer in the entire country when you have only been around for six months and you only have two songs? Unlikely. My biggest 'little annoyance' is that I just didn't feel that the main characters were very likeable. Mitsuki has two facets to her personality; sometimes she acts her age and sometimes she acts far more mature than her years. Either one of these personalities would have been fine by me, but since she switched between the two, I never really knew how to feel about her. In one episode, she has just released her first single and everyone loves it, it plays on the radio all the time, it’s sold out in all the stores and she's received tons of fan mail from it. But then she goes to school and it seems like no one there has heard of it and she gets all depressed because this tiny group of people haven't fallen head over heals for her song yet. That made me think, "You're so immature, why don't you be happy because of all the fans you have instead of moping because a few of your classmates haven't heard your song yet." But then, in another episode, some little kid steals her costume, kicks her, yells at her, ruins her performance, and generally just acts like a total brat. This time, mature Mitsuki takes over and none of the antics of this little kid faze her at all. In fact, every time he does something annoying to her, she just treats him even more kindly, and he of course just does something else mean to her in return. So, had she acted like a twelve year old with low self-esteem all the time, that would have been great because she is a twelve year old with low self-esteem. Had she acted mature beyond her years all the time, that would have been great too because it's pleasant to see someone so perfect and nice. (Fruits Basket anyone?) But, because she seemed to shift between the two, her contradictory actions and emotions just started to get on my nerves instead. Takuto, was also annoying, but for a different reason. He always acted like he was half his age. Whenever a situation was not to his liking (almost every episode), he would just turn his back on Mitsuki and Meroko and fly away. And then Meroko or Mitsuki would have to go after him and appease him and apologize for things they shouldn't have to, just to get him to come back. And, whenever things really weren't to Takuto's liking, he would hit people; usually his companion, Meroko. Keep in mind that Meroko is a girl. In one of the episodes, Meroko goes to comfort Takuto because he's had a bad day and he thanks her by lashing out at her, and hits her hard enough to knock her to the ground. While this kind of temper tantrum is acceptable behavior for a four year old, it is a criminal offense for an adult. Now, this would have been fine except for the fact that Takuto is supposed to be the good guy, and I don't like my good guys involved in domestic abuse. Lastly, none of the characters are very attractive. Takuto wears a shirt that goes down to mid chest and has his belly button completely exposed. On females that can be an attractive style, but on a guy? Moreover, for Meroko, she wears some kind of fetish wear including a belt around her neck. Not necessarily bad, but it did seem out of place for this show.
Now, the above only applies to the first fifty episodes of Full Moon. The last two episodes, however, are simply beautiful. All of a sudden, I forgot how annoying I thought Takuto and Mitsuki were and really started to sympathize with the situation at hand. I'll admit that I even shed a tear or two during the last episode, which is extremely rare for me to do. Since I don't want to give away any spoilers here, I'll just say that the ending is excellent. It is heart warming, satisfying and endearing.
Now, this duality in the series makes it very difficult for me to rate it appropriately. After watching the last two episodes, I could no longer just dismiss the series as your average run of the mill anime because they were so good. However, I can't just give it a high rating either because the first 96% of the show really was just average. I will have to find some kind of happy medium. I suspect that most of the high reviews for Full Moon come from the last two episodes. The reviewers were so blown away by them that they either forgot or forgave the first fifty episodes of the series and rated it based on the quality of the last two episodes alone.
In summary, I have to admit that Full Moon wo Sagashite was worth watching, but just barely. The show is interesting all the way through, but there are just too many little problems during the first part of the series for it to truly shine. It does shine in the last few episodes, but that does not quite outweigh all the problems that the rest of the series experienced.
For me, a value of 7 is considered average for each category.

| I'm not thinking, that this anime should really be in top position, like it is now. Nothing interesting happens untill the 40th episode, but I don't think it worth watching just for the last 12 series, although they are pretty good.
The idea of the whole story is interesting, but only the idea doesn't catch. Music is really poor, I also can't understand, how the star like Fool Moon can sing only two songs? She also is doing it almost every episode, so after 25-30 series you just can't hear it any more.
Animation is pretty poor, nothing special, really.
The only two things, that I can tell about this anime are: two Shinigami characters, the last 10-12 episodes, but I'm not sure many people will be patient enough to watch the first 40 :)

| If you take aside the small flaws, Mitsuki's 30 year old personality, a long introduction and you don't take everything too serious. Then this is something for you! Especially if you're a girl or a sentimental guy (like myself) then this is a must watch.
All you have to do is take the flaws away and look at whats really going on. What this show's symbolism and story is really about.

| For a show regarded so highly (Average review score of 9.3, 3rd highest rated show ever), I cannot help but feel a little cheated. It isn't bad by any means, but it isn't that great, and it will most certainly not appeal to everyone. The show is definitely more for girls and guys, and the simplistic animation takes some getting used to.

| I watched this show after a large number of female acquaintances recommended it. Being a guy, I didn't expect much from this childish sounding anime but it definitely surprised me. This anime is a lot deeper than it initially appears and the message it gives is a very positive and uplifting one. If you're willing to go through 52 episodes and like a bit of drama, this is for you.

| Loved, loved, looveeddd this series. My goodness. It made me cry. Once again. Haha, not very shocking anymore. It had a great story line, awesome music, although, I have to say, a bit repetitive. This is by far, the longest anime I have ever watched. Also, by far one of my most favorites.
Animation - The animation, was not perfect, not horrible. It didn't hurt my eyes to watch it, but it also didn't make me praise the glory of it. It was okay.
Sound - The music. I loved the music. As I said before, it was repetitive, but still, I loved the music. Mitsuki's voice and Full Moon's voice was comparable, to say, Full Moon's didn't sound like a twelve year olds, although she is supposed to be sixteen, it sounded older. Still, very pretty.
Story - Wonderful story, plot line, and such. I don't really know how to express my love for the story without ruining it so I'll stop.
Character - Lemme see, Meroko is my favorite anime character there is. Haha, and. The fact that they're death gods dressed as animals? That totally got me. I also. Adored the usage of wings.
You should seriously watch this series. It is pretty amazing :]

| Initially, I thought watching this would be pointless but I had nothing beter to do so eh, what da hel....by the time I had finished my mind had exploded and I was so happy to have watched this.
The story being about a little girl trying to achieve her dreams in order to reunite with a boy seriously deterred me. But as I got deeper into the series, emotions were being flung about and suddenly character conflicts and arguements seriously up'd the score. Would've been higher but the first 30 or so episodes are so pointless but you can't skip them otherwise it is somewhat confusing...
I'm told the artwork is meant to be beautiful etc. etc. while it was nice it didn't really strike me as outstanding. It was nice though, the drawings complimented the script and the characters were able to express themselves through their actions.
Characters for me generally make or break an anime. If they are poorly developed it will probably half my enjoyment. Such is the nature of dramas to make you feel what the characters feel. As you can tell from the 10, characters here were well developed. Mitsuki's unrelenting will affects those around her, positively or negatively and you can see the changes characters undergo when they meet her, whether it was for better or for worse.
The voice actors were fairly good. They had feeling and were convincing. The music I thoroughly enjoyed although ironically the songs Mitsuki sings, the openings and endings weren't what made the sound good. It was the background music. The melodies played I really enjoyed and thought suited each moment and gave the series that much more of an emotional impact, the piano tunes particularly.
I very much thought it was not a waste of time watching this anime. Although it had a really slow start ( I don't think I started to even anticipate what might happen next until episode 20) the series does pick up towards the end. I was quite pleased with the ending, I couldnt talk during the last 10 or so minutes 'coz I was so choked up. A must see for drama fans but probably not so much for action or people of similar interests.

| Well, in general this has great animation, beautiful songs and sound, but not a very solid story line, sure the drama is included, but they drifted from it with extra episodes which in my opinion were not needed.
Now on to the detailed review

| Honestly, what first attracted me to this series was the character art...however, I ended up despising half of those characters as the story moved on...and I really can't stand the main character. It's so clear that the 12-year old girl (Mitsuki) spends time primping herself (with the hair and matching clothes), and this is something you can simply see just by looking at how she's drawn - and yet, it seems okay for her to act all cutesy and innocent and she keeps saying how she wants her music to reach people's hearts and stuff, and I'm sorry, that just doesn't work for her!
I am trying to fit all of my irritated anger at this anime in this one review...I actually had to force myself to keep watching the 50+ episodes of this series! I kept holding onto the hope that the main character would somehow change into something more convincing...it didn't happen.
I know people say this animation is beautiful and sad but I must beg to differ. The plot is disgustingly simple, and even the slightest storyline conflicts, for the most part, were resolved by simply being overlooked (ex. the fact that she has to turn 16 years old to sing...so how does she sing without complications for the remaining of her career after the person who is able to turn her 16 suddenly loses that power?!)
This anime didn't strike a single chord in me. I don't like it. I'll give it props for sound and animation, but that's it. Definitely disappointing and overrated...

| Full Moon wo Sagashite (Searching for a Full Moon) really has a lot of potential, but in the eyes of this cynical reviewer, this anime is very much overrated (I hate using this word... :P) by a lot of fangirls and fanboys. At 52 episodes, there are lots of adventures, ups and downs, successes, depressions, and MUSIC; however, in accordance to the rankings at this current time, I feel that FMA (similar episode count, rival genre, etc.) deserves to outrank FMWS in these terms, of pretty much in every category.
I can understand how a lot of people would like this anime: it's got a tragic but cheerful main heroine, teasing romance angles, morals about inspiration and life, lots of subarcs, and a main story surrounding the ups and downs of a pop idol with the theme of music. Kouyama Mitsuki is an excellent lead girl, full of determination, and evolves with an expanding peripheral - who doesn't like her for who she is? She has goals in life, great friends, and a great voice actor to back her up. With pop music being, well, popular, a story through the ups and downs of a pop idol isn't a bad idea, either. Add in some supernatural elements, life lessons, and entertaining subarcs, it's a sure success to win over viewers everywhere.
However, where this anime tries to shine, it doesn't. As I've said, FMWS has quite a bit of potential, but it's only about 66% of the way there, with the main problems being mostly in the execution of the story, the story itself, and the music. Yes, I said music (if people have read my other reviews, DN in particular... I do enjoy all genres of music except for country and such, so don't use this argument against me!).
To start off, my favourite little arc would probably be the rivalry between Mitsuki and Madoka. When that first started, I had lots of expectations and hopes of a wonderful rivalry that would dig pretty deep and serve some good drama. Though it completed the arc no problem, I just wasn't satisfied with what they presented. Actually, it seems that they took the most conventional route through it and didn't bother to try to expand on such a goldmine. That's pretty much what happens throughout the entire series - it's all conventional, predictable, and as it's the most common way to tell a story, it's the most boring way to present it. There just weren't any surprises - just the most common way to proceed through the story. Sure, some scenes had good drama, and some had good tension, but it just doesn't shine anywhere.
As for the story itself, I was actually (accidently) revealed a spoiler... okay so I am going to be expecting some sort of good drama when I get there, especially when people around me left and right said it was one of the saddest episode/arc they've ever watched. I was extremely disappointed. At that point, there was only one more hopeful arc I could think of that could elevate this story from average one more time, but that arc disappointed as well. To me, the plot twist seemed to come out of nowhere (from the wrong side of the field!) and seemingly overused. Though it made the past 40 episodes seem like an entire waste of effort... that was pretty much the idea, and it conveyed it in a bad way. Overall, I was very disappointed with the only good elements to the plot that I thought were the ones that gained such fandom, so thus I must label "overrated" to this anime. (No, I shall not reveal the spoiler!)
As for the music, I don't have complaints on the production of the songs, but I have complaints on the usage of them. Firstly, I feel that the anime was one big "myco" commercial for the masses. Secondly, they only played (excluding the OPs, which are played by an entirely different band and singer) about 5 songs throughout the series, overusing 2 of them (as they were singles, of course) to saturation point. And the two made up the EDs as well!!! That's extreme overplay, especially since this is an old anime that you can't watch weekly (unless you're lazy or something). This is why "Sound" is now a lowly "6". If there was more variety and used different songs for the insert songs (WHY they play the same song 2-3 times an episode is beyond me!), this category would have faired better. But for now, the overusage of music bombs this category from what it should have been.
Slow to start, entertaining in the middle, but disappointed by the end. Is this worth 52 episodes? I don't recommend this to those who 1) hate generic pop music, 2) are cynical, and 3) get bored easily by any shoujo anime.

| This anime is deifnitely my favorite and probably one of the best ever. It alone is unqiue based on its musical sub-plot and the inspirtion and message it sends it inspriring. As a fantasy it is definitely a great one too, showing a different beautiful, unrealistic display of life.

| This is one of those anime that you really want to withhold judgment on until you're well into it. The plot, while starting off slow, does pick up and is one of the high points of the show. One of the things I like about Full Moon wo Sagashite is the fearlessness with which the director went about writing the plot. The characters are also quite interesting, and you'll probably find yourself attached to them by the end of the series. The animation had it's ups and downs, but as a whole was slightly above average. Finally, I didn't find the soundtrack to be anything special, but you'll enjoy it if you like J-pop female vocalists, although they take two songs and continue to use them constantly throughout the entirety of the series. Definitely check it out if you're into Dramas or touching stories in general.

| This anime is a GREAT anime that I would recommend to anyone who wants some romance or just a great storyline and touching moments. The main character is a loveable person who will touch your heart. The overall sense of this story is that there's this girl who has a disease with her throat. Two shinigami appear and accidentally reveal to her that she would die in 1 year. Hearing this, she heads on towards her goal in life: to sing and become famous for the one she loves. This starts the warming story of Full Moon Wo Sagashite with an ending that will leave you fulfilled! -sigh and tear- TWAS AWESOME!

| At first I was thinking "What a typically girly anime" and it took me some effort to persevere and keep watching this series. Alot of it was filler which didn't really keep my attention, and made the series go really slow. Then again, the story and the characters were developed very thoroughly, which makes a good impression at the end of it all, which it did.
After going through all the uninteresting bits of this anime, it all adds up to make an exceptionally awesome ending, which makes this whole series worth it.
The perfect series to leave smiles and tears on your face. (I didn't cry :D)

| Firstly, the animation is not as perfect as modern day anime collections, but that does not affect the my overall opinion on the anime itself.
Sound wise, the only problem I had with it was how different Mitsuki sounded when she sang(obviously a different voice actress was used)
HOWEVER, I strongly recommend this anime, though this anime has a fantasy plot(one which I do not really favour), I was amazingly touched and goosebump'd repeatedly till i lost count.
Character development, the up's and down's really put me through some mental torment, the way the director pictures it for us, it puts us in the character's shoes.
I would have to say the fillers are rather repetitive but nevertheless, doesnt degrade the value of this anime, a definitely must watch. Though second to Kimi Ga Nomozu Eien

| Believe it or not, this is the first romantic anime I have watched, (since everyone rates highly of this anime). Honestly, I prefer fighting anime, one that involves conflicts of interest and a bit of melodrama, but full moon wo Sagashite is different, it goes beyond stereotypes and sets a new standards for the genre of romantic drama/comedy.
Truthfully, the beginning episodes 1- 10 are purely annoying draggy, there is just too much fillers and it is simply pain to watch through them. However, I was compelled to watch on because I believed later episodes will becomes better. To anime's credit, it did (although still contains massive amount filler and romantic crap).
As the story builds on, anime pointed toward a more serious direction, with more emotions and interaction between main characters, and that's where Full moon wo sagashite shines (I won't spoil the story)
The music and sound is simply amazing especially the song "eternal snow", it perfect fitted the scenario it was projected in.
The only other complaint is the characters, frankly, none of them are really likeable especially in the beginning, they really lack unique personality, fortunately later on you become so emotionally attached to them that you have to like them whether you want to or not.
In general, a must watch for fans of the genre, a best introduction to those who is never interested in romantic comedy

| This show is really good. The way it weaves the characters together is really done nicely. I have curently watched all the fansubbed versions but as of now, VIZ Media is putting them oue dubbed. Currently only the first 12 episodes are out I only have 9-12. It is a manga and anime that can be enjoyed by all ages!

| Full Moon wo Sagashite is an epic tribute to love, life, and the triumph of the human heart. In 52 episodes of the anime, we are audience to the last year in the life of Kouyama Mitsuki, a 12-year-old girl with throat cancer, whose lifelong dream is to become a singer. She is visited by two Shinigami (Death Gods), Takuto and Meroko, who tell her she has one year of life remaining, and find themselves helping her to fulfill her dream.
Mitsuki's love of life and song are all too apparent throughout the series, and her story should inspire many a viewer to follow her tenacity, resilience, and desire to live.
The graphical quality is very acceptable, but lacks the attention to detail that one would expect from an masterpiece anime. Much of the story happens in the world of showbusiness, yet many of the wardrobes showcased by the people in the industry oddly lack fashion. Several times, characters are talking, but their mouths are not moving at all - for long enough periods of time to bring the viewer's attention to this fact.
The soundtrack is filled with beautiful songs and haunting melodies which stir the soul - as is only proper in an anime about music. Unfortunately, certain songs are reused so frequently as to cause consternation. After all, a normal anime will contain a wide variety of music to convey the different emotions and moods, but an anime about music and songs must have an even larger variety.
The story is clearly meant as a tragic/romantic drama, and in this respect, it succeeds brilliantly. The tale is moving and uplifting despite its tragic circumstances. It is doubtful that many viewers can get through all 52 episodes without the profuse use of kleenex. However skillfully the story is woven, Tanemura Arina's tale still feels slightly heavy-handed, and does not flow as seamlessly as a story with so much potential could have.
Main characters are exceedingly memorable in Full Moon wo Sagashite. Mitsuki and are scintillating successes, with deep and distinct personalities. On the other hand, characters like Meroko, while memorable, are incoherent and feel out of place within the plot.
The re-watch value of Full Moon wo Sagashite should be quite high, as most of the anime is a reminder to the viewer about the important things in life, and contain messages which can never be heard too often.
On the merit of the anime plotline alone, there was about 1 season worth of filler episodes (mostly concentrated at the start of the series) which could have been done away with. Because they were so obviously filler episodes with absolutely no purpose other than to waste viewer time, they definitely detracted from the overall enjoyment of the anime experience.

| Full Moon Wo Sagashite was a great anime. And I can proudly say that because I went through most of the fillers and cried in the end. Yes, I did cry.
This was the only anime I watched without reading any introductions or reviews. I thought that if I had, I would refuse to watch it like the many other animes I've turned down. The introductions make this sound like a happy-go-lucky and cliched anime. Well, in a way I guess it is. But in it's own way it kinda isn't. You need to watch to judge yourself.
One of the problems I have with this anime is the songs. I do love them if having them on my ipod is any indication, but they are EXTREMELY repetitive. I stress the word extremely. I don't remember the background music much but I do know that there are. Background music I mean.
Anyway, I love the characters. Even now, as I look back on the characters, my mind screams "TAKUTOO!" Heh. I may be crazy. Although it's sorta weird to admit you like a half-cat half-man half-dead-person. Mitsuki was very indepth for a 12 year old, and that made the anime so much better. I kind of hated Mitsuki's grandmother in the beggining but I felt sympathy towards her in the last few episodes.
The plot at first glance may seem cliched. Girl wants to be pop star. Girl does.
But Full Moon Wo Sagashite twists it around. Now adding a reason to become one, a problem to not become one, and dependent upon others TO become one.
Animation was not that great for a 2003 anime. Come onn we have imax in the movies theatres now, stick with me here! But the animation was not that bad either.
I do value this anime much. Maybe because it made me cry, or the characters are somewhat memoriable. I wouldn't rewatch this anime as there are quite a bit of fillers. This anime I would think would fit nicely in 30-40 episodes. And even then there would be a bit of fillers. The ending though, was remarkable and very satisfying, making the fillers worth the watch as it prepared you for the ending.
All in All this is a great light anime worth the watch. But don't be absurd now, if you are a die-hard action kinda person you wouldn't enjoy this very much and would call me crazy for rating this even past a 5.
But I do recommend this anime. =)
