This was the very first Japanese anime I ever saw and I hold a very special place for it in my heart! Nothing ever will compare to the dreams this series placed in my heart, and the deep love for Japanese animation it gave me at such tender age! This will forever be my favorite, no other one will replace it, and after all this years I still remember all about it!! A wonderful series, with agreat story and wonderful characters!! A must see classic!!

Though in my opinion the best anime of my childhood was ''The adventures of Nils Holgerson'', this one was decent too. Back then I thought those cartoons were european productions. The Japanese have done a good job when producing animes with european background.

It is a very good book adaptation and if you manage to get a copy of it it will certainly appeal to children. Though in order to fully appreciate it you have to ignore the more recent animes. Had I read the novel I'd add a little more points.

One of I.Takahatas first directing attempts at the first and most popular WMT production but not the best. It set the start for the rest of quality series by Nippon Animation and so its value should not be underestimated.

The trend that would later make the WMT unique, namely focusing on the daily life of the characters and depicting the world of the novel as accurately as possible are all here. Despite that later some series would have a more serious tone and a more engaging story, it is Heidi that started it all and for a starter it performs excellently.

Similar WMT anime would be later Annette and Katri, where the bucolic themes are similar, and also Little Women and Pollyanna to some extent.

So it is no coincidence in saying that Heidi defined a whole new approach to animated series based on works of children's literature.

A pity that it was never broadcasted in the US during its peak in popularity. Fortunately "Little Women" and "Tom Sawyer" were.

For younger anime fans who are not so fond of mecha, action or sci-fi, Heidi is a must-watch.

Heidi has got likeable and realistic Charas. It's a nice and unspoilt story for youngest and young but also older children. It shows the happy world and daily live of a natur-loving girl in the Alps with all it's small adventures and points out the natural miracles of our daily live.
