| Disregard the first review on the second page, evidently is was compiled by someone without the aid of imagination or indeed any sgred of sanity
GaoGaiGar is quite honestly superb. Taken at face value (which i think the first reviewer did on page 2 did) it may well appear to be a litle too bizzarre for words, especially after the opening theme song. But given a chance the story is not only immensely clever and the character developement nothing short of pure genius. The epic mech battles are incredibly frequent (which i have to say is something the genre has been missing a lot as of late). I quickly found myself warming ot the flambouyancy of the gairish maecha design and dramatisicism of the scenarios as, just when you thought things couldn't get any worse. a Giant freaking dragon mech turns up or something equally insane...but in an edge of the seat kind of fashion. You find yourself living for Guy's cry of "FINAL FUSION" as all the required elements come to gether in an elborately blase fashion to create the king of Braves GaoGaiGar. As every now and then more characters are introduced or new modifications of characters come along you'll find you have more and more to root for as each episode goes by. (ChoRyuJin rocks your socks off!!!)
give it a go, you need some time to adapt but it's really worth the investment in your time, mecha fans out there. You havn't seen mecha action until you've seen GaoGaiGar.
Got mecha?

| GaoGaiGar is the last in a series of Mecha shows produced by Sunrise, whose main purpose is to sell toys. These "Yuusha"(Brave) shows have been around for a while, and are all similar. GGG being the newest and last is widely regarded as the best of these shows.
So, If you like Mecha anime, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. It takes lots from older mecha shows, such as Transformers, Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, and thats not a bad thing.
There is plenty of crazy gadgets, new robots being introduced all the time, and fusions and tranformations up the wazoo. Sure, it can seem pretty simple or even kiddy at times, but thats just part of it's charm.

| Robot anime have been around for a long time, having begun with the grandfather 'Mazinger Z', proceeding thru to 'Gundam' and ‘Macross’, later being changed drastically by ‘Evangelion.’ But some changes weren’t thought of as for the best by some people in the anime industry. Ryosuke Takahashi (of Armored Troupers Votoms fame) and Yonetani Yoshitomo (relative newcomer from Warau Salesman) thought that some of the basic innocence, the basic heart of mecha anime had been lost over the years. Where was the joy and excitement that they had experienced at children watching the forces of good fight bravely against overwhelming odds?
It was time for Bandai’s yearly foray into coming up with new “Brave anime of the year (a series of shows for kids that had been going on for 7 years previous) and thus, the premise of “King of Braves: GaoGaiGar was born from these minds. Bandai had decided that this would be the last Brave anime for some time to come, as the sponsor, toy-manufacturing giant Takara was beginning to realize that perhaps this line of toys was no longer the money maker it once was. GaoGaiGar was to be the last and in some ways King of Braves was a very apt title…
I could explain the basic of basics of the story, but you can read that elsewhere (right here in fact). Instead, I’d like to explain what could make a story some simple, so kiddy worth checking out.
What GaoGaiGar does best is layer the story with depth, interesting psudo-tech, and characters that you can really get into. Every episode a little more of the overall mystery is revealed as the origin of the enemy Zondar and the creation of the secret organization GGG. Add into the mix the hiring of technical guru Nozaki Touru to give the show an actual scientific edge that doesn’t sound completely banal or overly tech-ish yet strange enough to only be found in anime (a weapon that’s head energizes to have the mass of a black hole—oh yes indeed). Characters are catchy and fun to watch in action and in some ways a nice change of pace from the characteristic ‘mysterious gray morals’ that permeated/s anime of the time. Not only are the majority of the characters intensely brave and dedicated to their cause, but they also play pretty smart (both the good and the evil sides), thinking situations through in order to derive the best solution to any problem thrown their way.
So, no, GaoGaiGar isn’t going to win awards for being the ‘deepest’ anime around, nor for being the most realistic. But I believe that there should always be a place in the heart for anime like GaoGaiGar to show that indeed heroism and bravery still does exist in the world.

| A story about a boy, the last survivor of an ancient race... a lost technology found by a group of heroic humans... and an all-powerful enemy that will stop at nothing to achieve its goals. This is GaoGaiGar.
8 years ago, a boy is brought to earth by the mecha-lion Galeon, to be cared for by the Amami family.
6 years pass, and the ace-pilot Guy is rescued from certain death by a mysterious mecha-lion; the only problem - in order to survive, he must be rebuilt into a cyborg.
Flash forward 2 more years, the young boy Mamoru Amami is on a school trip when the evil rears its head for the first time, and in order to defeat it, the great hero GaoGaiGar is born!
Thus begins the struggle against the evil (or are they?) Zonders, the Yuusha robots and GGG - a force for good, and the people caught in the middle.
Excellent animation and a lush audio soundtrack surround an epic storyline that will constantly leave you wanting more!

| GaoGaiGar as many will see upon watching is your typical kiddy-action cliche anime with numerous repetitive action seqeunces and long span to eventually get a plot across. However, dont let these simple flaws get to you. The action sequences are one of the highlights of the anime and is overly animated great. The mecha portrayed in this anime do have that nostalgic touch of transformers but in a positive sense. While the plot is not as developed as other more matured anime, it still an easily understandable and enjoyable story to watch and behold. Overall, if you're in that kiddy trip again, I reccomend you watch Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar
