| This anime was interesting. I enjoyed the story and how it developed. The story somewhat reminded me of Shuffe!. Since the two main character girls were in love with the main male character. The story at the end was a little to fast. The people must have tried to finish it so that people wouldn't have any questions but would have been better if it was done in a whole episode of showing what happened. The one girl was in the hospital and then she was wake and out on a date with the main male character.

| Memories of a time that we thought we'd forgotten, but memories can return little by little. Kanon tries to use this theme, however it's mixed with other themes, so some may be pleased while others disappointed. If you can look in the mirror and see the reflection of your former self, Kanon is for you.

| I feel a little bad for watching the 2006 version of this anime first, then later coming to this one, which might make my opinion a bit biased towards the more recent version. Nonetheless, I'll try to review this best I can as a stand-alone. For full reviews please read on!

| Memories are a rather elusive concept to define--primarily because they're so difficult to objectively pinpoint in terms of recall. It can run between or land upon two different extremes: one can have an overembellished view of a memory that drives the individual to have certain nostalgic, overzealous notions, while harsher memories are pushed aside because of the negative connotations and emotions they unearth when recalled. Such recall becomes even more difficult if an extensive amount of time passes without the individual coming to terms with those memories, resulting in a rather harsh reality check when the truth comes to surface.
Yuuichi Aizawa finds himself confronting the memories of seven years past after returning to the town in which he was reared with his cousin Naiyuki and aunt Akiko. His confrontations and experiences gradually lead him to unearth memories revolving around five main girls: Naiyuki, Ayu, Mai, Kaori and Makoto. Each girl represents a piece of his past that he tries to place together and, in retrospect, rekindle the memories and relationship he once knew.
If this had played out more like an actively "searching for the past and relationships" type of anime series, it probably would have been more interesting, but Kanon is more supernatural than it is slice of life. Like its counterpart AIR, it's based on an H-game series and revolves itself among the daily interactions between a rather kind-hearted fellow and the girls he's grown to love (yes, typical harem, but I'll come to that in the extended review). Each girl, save for Naiyuki, has a bit of a troubled past, yet the story associated with Kanon plays far too quickly, especially with endless run of melodrama in the last several episodes, to fully create sentiment about each character individually. I think overall, the worst of the girls in terms of how their respective story was handled would go to Makoto, and the best handling would come to Mai's overall story.
My main problem with Kanon lies in the rather quick progression, yet I say that the overall concept of the story wasn't really that bad-at least not when I watched it some odd time before. Kanon had its moments of cuteness, but it really doesn't work its way out of the genre stereotypes, nor does it really have embelllishing characters to support the story- the characters seem flat and simply presented. Sure, their arcs have good definition, but I feel like more character development and progression was needed to really get a feel for each character.
Aspects of Kanon that were good: nice overall soundtrack, decent voice acting, and sweet slice of life character interactions that provided for momentary cuteness and potency where it counted in the overall realm.
Aspects of Kanon that were bad....and there are quite many....uberly rushed story in terms of progression and pacing, lack of appropriate character development in a short span series, and mediocre animation (especially with the character design....yuck).
I didn't dislike Kanon as an overall series, I actually rather liked it to begin with, but considering the remake of this has much better caliber, I'd recommend skipping over this one and watching the 2006 version.

| You can't expect much from an anime based on an H-game or a harem.
Of course there is one guy having to choose 1 girl out of like 5 or 4 girls. It's no surprise that there isn't much character developemtn or any decent characters which causes thsi anime to fail miserably.
THIS ANIME should NOWHERE NEAR the top 200 in fact the actual top 200 actually consists of mostly of 90's and 80's animes
animes past 2000 has no chance unless it's really THAT good and this one is actually below mediocre

| (The short version, click on **Read More** to see the long version of my review..)
Pros : Our ordinary hero has just moved to a new town, where he meets a variety of different young women and contributes to their lives in one way or another (or just becomes good friends with them). Alot of different ideas from the supernatural, to the lonely sick girl, to the best friend from childhood.. yeah its not terribly original, but still quite sincere and entertaining in its diverse efforts. Also for those to whom it matters- there is barely an inkling of fan-service to be found in this shounen romance. It's all about sweet, pure, and cute personalties.
Cons : The way its paced.. It kinda feels like watching someone play game at first. The lead male in this hgame-to-anime conversion is (as usual) lame and dumb. The potentially compelling moments come up shorter than they should thanks to little time for reflection. The art is pretty ugly at first but either gradually got prettier or I got used to the unusual design. (I suspect a combo of both.) There is nothing really big and special to be found in this series.
But after watching a bundle of this genre (which is not aimed at a fangirl like me at all..) I'm not a great judge of how enjoyable this show could be for you. If you've liked other shounen romance shows, it should ring up as good enough.

| Nowadays, you can't talk about Kanon without talking about it's successor, Air. Not just because they were made by the same game company, but because they are so alike in their character elements, it's embarrassing. Nevertheless, I will try to give an honest judgement of this show, so bear with me.
When I first heard about Kanon, it was because I was looking for good melodrama slice-of-life series. I was told Kanon would be perfect for me. I looked it up on Wiki and decided, yes, this is going to be a good anime to watch.
The first thing I noticed about Kanon was definitely the animation, mostly how painfully flat it was. None of the characters had any real depth to them physically and I have to admit it hurt my eyes to look at. Surprisingly, it flowed very well and the backgrounds looked almost too good for the rest of it. Still, that flatness really killed a lot of my excitement for the series off really easily.
Sound I wouldn't say was a problem, but there was nothing really overreachingly good. The ED was very pleasant, The OP was kind of annoying, and the Ep. 13 insert song was just beautiful, but BGM-wise, I wasn't wowed. Voices however, are a different story. I've always been a huge fan of Yui Horie, but her Ayu takes the cake. I've never heard her do a character so cute. Nayuki's voice was rather sweet albeit a little too childish, and Makoto... well, I don't think anyone will ever be able to whine as well as her again ever.
Now comes the story... which, well like most slice-of-life anime, doesn't have a specific one. Kanon takes the various girls and gives them their own stories for the main character, Yuuichi, to deal with. Sometimes these stories are done with great justice (Ayu's and Makoto's for instance), other times they just fall flat (Mai, I'm looking at you.). Unfortunately, very few of these stories involve anyone else but the girl, and each girl is pretty much seperated from the others most of the time, with the sole exception being Nayuki and Makoto. Still, it ends with one of the most satisfying endings I've ever seen in a recent anime. It's a good, heartwarming ending that feels like the viewer's been rewarded for hoping and praying for the girls to all come through in the end... well, as long as you liked Ayu, that is. But who doesn't like Ayu?
Characterization was also well done, especially in Makoto's case, because her story was an incredibly complex one. The balance between brattiness and helplessness was achieved and really shined through. Ayu and Nayuki I couldn't help but feel much characterization in them. Ayu was too innocent, Nayuki was too jealous, and Shiori was too shy... but that's all it was really. Still, Ayu's likeable so it's hard to diss her character that much. But I never really felt much of Nayuki and Shiori's characters which was overall disappointing. And Mai could've at least cracked a smile once!
Well, Kanon isn't the best, but it's not the worst. It's a good series for anyone who's interested in seeing the emotional power of a dramatic slice-of-life anime. It's as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking so have some tissues ready if you plan to watch it, but the end result is rather enjoyable and worth your watch.

| Promising start and the first few episodes make me sit and watch this anime. The voice actors really made a good effort at bringing the chartecter emotional depth to life. Added with the sound track, made this a threat for a tear jerker.
That said, when the second half of the show came into being, it lost me. Not because of all of the metaphysical mombo-jumbo, as I have come to expect that from good anime, but the sheer lack of cohesive story. None of the characters lives intertwined with one another exept in a superficial level. It was like watching six seperate shows, one for each love interest.
Overall, the show has some really good parts between individual characters. Most other times the story was deliberately obscured to make the story seem like it was going somewhere in order to keep you watching.

One expression can sum it up... awwwwwwwwwwww ^_^
Kanon is a wonderful animé that kept me intrigued and left me feeling alternately tearful and warm and fuzzy. The story seems patchy but is nonetheless very emotional and touching. It is driven by the characters, who are the main impetus for the plot and to whom you'd quickly get attached, with all their quirkiness and randomness.
The winter setting was definitely a plus for me, as I simply love the snowy season and dream about it all the time! The music also appeals to me, though it mightn't be to everyone's taste. I suppose I'm just the type to prefer melodramatic, dreamy tunes set against a peaceful snowscape over fast-paced techno and robots and such :-p.
Everything just adds up to awww, awwwww, awwwwwww ^.^ I'm definitely going to watch this series again, from beginning to end.
I must say, however, that I'm a newcomer to the animé world and don't have much of a basis against which I could compare Kanon. The only other animé series I've watched is Air, which is every single bit as good as Kanon. I recommend both and next thing, I'm going to write a review for Air! For all of you chaps below who noticed a similarity between Kanon and Air, that's because they were produced by the same company- Key.
I like Kanon and Air for different reasons, though. Air's story is much more poignant and well-written than Kanon's, but it's SO poignant and depressing that it leaves you sleepness for many nights after the grand finale. Kanon is not as well put-together but it's much easier on your tear ducts: it's touching and sad in parts, but on the whole, it's hopeful and optimistic and a better choice for something to watch when you're lonely and yearning for entertainment and warmth. Thus, I'd give Air a higher rating, but I'm much more likely to re-watch Kanon, simply because it always feels nice to be left with a smile and a pressing urge to hug someone impulsively ^^;;

| *Spoilers* (?)
I was a little iffy about watching this in the beginning because at the moment I suddenly got a huge load of anime from a friend. I just finished watching Love Hina and Onegai Twins, and was absolutely in love with those that I didn’t know what to expect from this. But I watched the first episode and found myself pleasantly surprised. Down to the technical stuff:
The music is a low point for me but forgivable, it just doesn’t flow with the rest of the show but adds a nice atmosphere to some of it (I carefully picked the word ‘nice’ because that’s what it is, nothing more).
The animation is cute but strangely disturbing (as the characters have unusually large eyes and miniature mouths located, literally, right under the nose) and flowed nicely.
The characters are easy to understand and make the story work (I am still working off the violent characters of Love Hina)
The story is of high quality and is perfectly sized in 13 episodes. Most people wanted more episodes but I feel if they made more perhaps, the story would be ruined. The story is a mixed bag, drama being in the forefront, whilst romance, action and comedy follow, but in a much less degree. It all seems a little confusing sometimes but if you give it all your attention, but the end everything works out. I won't ruin it with details but one scene comes to mind as being incredibly funny, the scene includes something to do with buying a magazine (you'll know it when you see it). I am not the kind of guy who cries an awful lot but some of the later episodes had me in tears, this is a real tear jerker and will depress the hell out of you if you’re not really into it. This is flawless stuff, gets you wondering why all anime is of this high quality.
Enjoy it and savior it while it lasts, because it is an emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish.

| Ahh, ahh... what's with the cutesy look? Why is Yuuichi looking too cute for a guy?
Anyway, it starts with a warm feeling, more like one of those light-hearted anime. But then it starts to get depressing and a bit more dramatic. It gave me somewhat of a nostalgic feeling because it gave off too much emotion near the end. Yeah, someone said it, feels like the aura from Air or KnGE. I got that kind of feeling from this cutesy, but emotionally roller-coaster anime.
This anime reminds awefully a lot of Mizuiro, which was released after Kanon. It had a similiar plot, but instead of the girl cousin in love, it's the sister.

| Yeah, this anime was awesome.
I think the animation was good, but not perfect. The face of Yuuichi bugged me a bit, because his eyes and mouth were so close to eachother, and, well.. it looked weird.. The rest was very good, but there still were some little things about characters faces, that's all though.
The sound was good, but not too good. I wasn't really impressed by the intro and outro, but the background music had a good touch in it.
The story was great, if you could call it a story. I'd say they are all different stories, all put together, and each one of them is awesome. But the story overall was good, although it shouldn't have ended like this. I'm not saying it was a bad ending, I'm only saying I would have changed it if I had the chance. But this is a special kind of ending, and I apreciate it.
The characters are all well 'made.' I liked the story behind each one of them, and how it linked all together. It was very good in my opinion.
For the value.. I think I could watch it again, and I guess I could buy it too, if I had the money... It wouldn't be a waste, that's for sure.
I enjoyed this anime, but not in a normal way. Normally I'd spread the episodes in a couple of days, but I finished this anime in one day, and watched the episodes one by one. Something like that doesn't happen that often with me, but it did with, for example, this anime.
So I'd recommend it to everyone who likes to cry for a bit, or who likes drama animes in general. I enjoyed it a lot, and I guess any drama/love-romance-fans would too.
Hurray for Kanon!

| To begin, this anime overall starts off with good intentions yet gets bogged down by its own conflicts in the end. Yet aside from gaping plot holes and inconsistent pacing, this anime shines with beautiful music and a overall feel that is utterly unique and one of a kind.
If explaining to one who has not seen Kannon you can honestly say that this series could have benefited form a few more episode.in a huge way. The last 5 episode or the third act of the story really is where everything happens in this anime and its also where everything falls apart. Characters, leave/die or go back to wherever they came from without a explanation as to why or how this is happening. leaving the audience wondering with what that has to do with the story or more importantly what does the loss of a certain character serve to advance the plot when the story has just covered that same exact problem 2 episode earlier.
Another huge blatant mismatch of story dynamics is Minase Nayuki love for the main character (Aizawa Yuuichi) when she is cousins with him. This is down right weird to see in contrast when, Yuuichi's character is in love with Tsukimiya Ayu and is developed and explained throughout the entire series. The weird love triangle thing was built up in the last couple of episodes, yet didn't serve to justify anything from a plot development role other then to show Minase Nayuki becoming a stronger person and learning to let go of Yuuichi.
That said, the whole Minase character development growth felt completely and utterly out of place and artificial not only because of the loving your cousin thing but because of the lack of validity of the real relationship in contrast. when you find out that Tsukimiya Ayu is really a spirit or something like that(angel?) (pure speculation but angelic astral projection of her while shes in the hospital.. leaning towards a angel of some kind) and are left wondering how did she disappear and then re-appear againm you lose all real justification of a real relationship of growth between the two characters. Yet to give the benefit of the doubt it is stated why she comes back to visit Yuuichi but its never explained how she comes back.
One last little thing they forgot to include yet at the end in the last episode they did mention it, yet it goes against what was already established as a given law within the kanon universe. The whole Misaka Shiori being terminally ill and yet in the last episode shes better. They did imply that she needed a miracle yet was never stated that she specifically got one. All that was said was it was because of Yuuichi That shes better. Yet in previous episodes its made quite clear theirs nothing that can be done to save her except a miracle.
Now on to the good stuff. This anime from the very start had one of the best placed music dynamics ever in anime. Every spot where there should be emotion there is music to back up the mood. Mind you its mostly just one piece of music but its played slightly different depending one the situation which is perfect. This helps retain another incredible aspect of this anime which was its feel. With the music differing yet having somewhat of the same cord structure through each scene the anime did an amazing job at creating a world where you can get sucked into and see these characters interact. This coupled with the hole snow motief into the story metaphors was also a nice and believe able association.
Overall, this anime is worth watching. Not perfect and a little rushed, yet wonder full in its own right. Strong music and setting really help to make this one stand out from the crowd, and if you can get past the plot wholes and the cousin love you will find a treat like none other.

| One of the best romance animes...if you liked Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien I can thoroughly say that you will enjoy Kanon...I didnt see this series when it aired in 2002, but I am glad I gave it a chance. Wonderfully executed drama, a great soundtrack, smooth animation...just AWESOME. One of my favorites of all time. Under-rated in my opinion. Go watch it!! ^_^

| One of the best anime series I've ever watched--Kanon has a great cast, and does a good job being touching without being soap-opera like or too melodramatic. It also benefits from a solid, conclusive ending and good character development, as opposed to a lot of "harem" series that blow through the cast and leave you wondering who the protagonist will wind up with.
The characters are what really makes the series, and Kanon has a solid, human (instead of flawless), and definitely likeable male protagonist in Yuuichi. The girls all have well-developed characters and Ayu, Makoto, and Mai are some of the more memorable characters I've seen in anime. Kanon influenced a lot of renai games and anime that followed it, as well as the author of the Megatokyo webcomic (watching Kanon, I finally know where "Piro" comes from), and after watching it it's easy to see why. Often compared to Kiminozo, personally I found Kanon far better--while Kiminozo often felt like watching a soap opera (with characters that were hard to like), Kanon has characters that you can't help rooting for, which made it much more enjoyable for me to watch.
Kanon centers on Yuuichi, who returns to a snowy northern town for the first time in seven years. His parents are out of the country, so he goes to stay with and go to school with his cousin Nayuki. His memories from the last time he visited are hazy for a reason unknown to him, but as he lives in the town and meets people he'd encountered in the past they begin to clear up, and are revealed in short flashbacks. During winter in the town, he runs into Ayu, Makoto, Shiori, and Mai, and ends up influencing their lives, and finding out he had known them in his forgotten childhood memories. Ayu's arc is my favorite, but Makoto's is really good as well, and all of them are engaging to watch and have twists and turns that keep them interesting.
Highly recommended--I passed this over when it came out back in 2002, but I'm glad I went back and watched it now.

| *sigh - this was a very disappointing anime. After watching the whole series i wonder to myself. What the hell just happened? I really didnt get this series at all. The first 9 eps were "huh", "what", "she's not real", "huh"?. Get my drift? It felt like those episodes were there "just because."
The animation wasnt horrible, yet i found that the background looked much better than the characters themselves.
Yuuichi's hair was flat at the top, and his face...it didnt look porportional at all. And all the girls eyes were so close to their chins.
The sound was pretty boring. It just suited the actions, but there was not much music or sound affects that seemed interesting at all.
This series reminded me of Da Capo from the beginning till the end. One guy, a million girls. I was glad to have seen that they took the time to actually draw another guy...cept he wasnt important to the series at all. This was just one of those daily life anime with no real plot. I didnt really get the anime when i was watching it, and now i get some of it...but i just dont get what the first 9 episodes was about.
I wouldnt recommend this anime unless if you want to be bored to death. That is all.

| I'll start saying that all anime based on bishojo games suffer of a major fault: the male character is simply too much protagonist and all the world seems to rotate around him. In this case, however, this is the only deficiency I can see. Female characters are cute and their (Japanese) voice actings are one of the best I've seen so far: their tone really let your heart feel at ease.
Basical concept is simple: Yuuichi goes back to the place he used to be seven years before, but he doesn't remember much of that period. Recollecting pieces of his memory about the people he knew can help him learn a new lesson about life. The leitmotif that links all his relation with the girls is the miracle. By helping the girls in need, he must have them recall the last light of hope and eventually let a miracle happen.
It's true that it isn't a long series and it loses all the starting episodes just to let you know the various girls, but it would be worth-watching even if there were only those episodes about Ayu (I'd better not spoil it).
I've got an unusual opinion when I'm going to give a vote to an anime: if I can feel a thrill and even cry for it, then the votation can sky-rocket. And so it was for me...(There aren't a lot of anime where I cried: only this one and Pitaten if I remember good :) [Why I cried for Pitaten? I'm really a baby...])
Side note: Since it seems a lot of reviews talk about it, I've also seen KGNE, but I liked Kanon more; that's probably your choice: if you prefer realism then choose KGNE, if fairy tales go for Kanon (but who prohibits you to see them both?).
