| First off, I am a chef and have served in the industry for the past 10 years. My specialties are Japanese and French, but I do know Chinese cooking fairly well since I was raised on every Chinese dishes.
This show is worth watching just for the fun factor, though I have a feeling this show may not be as joyable if not for its fantasitic dubbing in Catonese (the Madarin verstion is rather poor and the Japanese versino is yet seen by me yet).
The show to me beats Iron Chef in any given days because I simply could not stop laughing through it (maybe was due to the over-dramatic effect of the foods). Most of the dishes are doable with some of the banquet dishes (you should know which ones if you applie basic knowledge of physics and chemistry).
Well, this chef's opinion gives this Anime a thumb up, the rest is for you to find out...

| Absolutely ridiculous... an anime that is reminescent of Iron Chef but only because it relates to food. A highly dramaticized version of being best in terms of cooking.....
The biggest turn off of this anime is the animation and the story both. The animation shows nothing interesting and doesn't draw me at all into this anime. The basis of this story is also a bit ridiculous and I can't take something like this seriously at all..
I wouldnt recommend watching this unlesss you are a masochist, or you love cooking. It is very hard to go through these uneventful and cliche episodes. Nothing happens, so you aren't missing out.
Well, there is one neutral thing about this anime. The character of Mao is pretty normal. There isn't anything really annoying about him.
It does make me hungry though....but not for more episodes lol.

| I really like these kind of anime. Use the regular stuff then use the power of animation boost up to the surreal world.
As you notice, it's like other old anime where you take one job or sport then exaggerate it. You'll see a lot of flying dragons and super blinding effect where golden light bursting out of the pot like it was some kind of magic. Although the story wrap everything up pretty fast. You don't believe me?! Because it's had 52 ep. ? You gotta see it yourself. This kid, 13 years old become a super chef, travling around in chaina, come back to where he started, then go all around china again to collect legendary cooking wares. Unbelievable stuff, but fun while it's last.

| The animation's a bit poor, since it's kinda old. But do not let that make you shy away from this anime. This show promises a lot of fun and excitement! I was addicted watching this and i even thought of becoming a chef one day (hehe). The cookings seem to be kind of unreasonable and bizzare, but you still can't help feeling an enormous thrill whenever watching Mao showing his skills. The only thing i regretted was how they didn't end the adventure at ep52. Sort of like leaving you on a cliffhanger =/
If you like Slamdunk or Hikaru no Go or Hajime no Ippo, you can give this a try. And i heard Yikitake! Japan will be focusing on bakery now! Woot that'll be fun!

| Very funny and very unique. Cooking Master Boy is the Hikaru no Go of the chinese cooking world as the young chef Mao grows from his family business, to the super-chef competition, to saving all of china from the dark cooking society! Suprising as it may sound, the cooking battles are very intence and do a great job of drawing you in. The dishes they prepare and their cooking methods, at least for me, were very interesting to watch. The friends that Mao makes in his travels all help him become a great chef, and there's even a touch of romance between Mao, and his master's daughter Mei Li, who accompanies Mao on his travels. Great watch for sports anime fans or people who just like to cook.

| hhm... this anime is fun and cool! this thing turned cooking which i find boring into something interesting, so yeah i enjoyed this anime tonnes and also learned some things on cooking(though whether theyre real stuff or not? heck it looked really real to me) =)
this is one of those animes where you get those light warm heart feelings in em though theres not really any love ingredient in here.
The story when you think about is ridiculously impossible but yet it flows and is possibly logical and most of all amusing!
though the ending as is with most animes felt kinda rushed and with the story not ended yet so i was a little dissapointed
This is an anime in its own league and bcos of this it really made me feel at awe and glued to it as really it was interesting and cool! =)

| Mao and his companions must find the Legendary Cooking Utensils so that they can defeat the "Dark Cooking Society" who plans to take over China by controlling the emperors palate.
The storyline moves in an obvious progression and like most long series, has its slow points. This anime can be funny at times, especially during the cooking sequences and following consumption of the food.
What I would have liked to see more of was the development of the lead character and his supposed girlfriend. This show attempts at times to do this, but never seems to quite follow through with it.
If you like cooking, don't mind a simple story, and have a good sense of humor, this anime may be for you!

| Mao must find all those tools and becaome a super Chef. The story is simple. The anime reflects Slamdunk-but with cooking tools. Almost the same. There are cooking competitions, and the evil underground world(badguys) of the cooking world must be stopped with the legendary cooking tools.
For an old anime, the story is clearly uninspired. Not that much twist.
You can tell this is an old anime, just by the drawing, & it still is not that good compared to Nadesico.

| I didn't quite know what to expect of this, but the title gives you a
pretty good idea. The story is set in medieval China, but instead of Kung Fu fights, we get presented with one cooking challenge after the other. You can tell that the author has used the
standard layout for fantasy fighting anime, since the show is bristling
with stubborn rivals, evil villains, goody-good allies, etc, etc. It's
just that they fight their battles in the kitchen instead of killing
each other.
This sounds quite nutty, right? That's what I thought too. Unfortunately,
while they could have made this into an excellent fighting anime parody,
they didn't. It doesn't even have very much humour in it, so despite the
interesting setting, it becomes very dull. It's the kind of anime that you
watch a few episodes of - then erase it and forget about it.
So, what it does have is an original setting. Apart from that, it has a
weak plot and everything else is mediocre.
There are some laughable quotes though...like:
"This is second to none! My invincible soup!" ^__^

| Very enjoyable series that will certainly draw comparisons to "Prince of Tennis," "Hajime No Ippo," "Kenshin," etc in terms of re-used premise. None the less, it has a very creative cooking battle in every single episode and exceptionally cool characters. It not violent at all save a few episodes where Mao is cutting meat which might barely be objectionable.
