| Saga is an attempt to challenge when technology overtakes human to actually drive a race car.
The animation is excellent once again, but there is a bit too much on the reused cells of the boosters. The sound is superb, every BGM matched the action perfectly.
The story this time IMHO, is a bit weaker than the previous OVAs. On the first ep, when Hayato is complaining about the out-paced Asurada, I began the think that if Hayato is the #1 driver for Sugo, isn't it the team's priority to develop Hayato's car rather than the others? Also, while the Aoi bit is interesting, the ending is too predictable, which detracted from the exciting ending which is so well done from the previous series.
This is still an excellent OVA since it firmly established a good preview for the last CF OVA, CF Sin. And the last part of Saga is interesting as it "interviewed" each driver for their insights.
Trivia: 1996 is the year when Damon Hill won his first and only F1 championship in his Williams/Renault machine. One really interesting note is that besides his first championship, Kazami can only win a championship whenever Williams won a championship in F1. Kazami won a championship in 11, the same year Williams won with Nigel Mansell. Kazami is dominating in Zero before crashing out of the season (he still ranks third at the end even though he completed only 5 out of 12 races). This is the same year Alain Prost won it with Williams. Kazami won his third championship in CF Saga, the same year (1996) when Damon Hill won with Williams. Kazami won his fourth championship, where Williams won the championship with Jacques Villenueve (1997).

| Cyber Formula Saga, in my opinion, is really the 'meat and potatoes' so to speak, of the entire Cyber Formula OVA run. In fact, it may be just as substancial as the TV series. Saga is really the deviding point in the story where you can break the series into "pre-saga" and "post-saga" as quite a few years have passed since the events of Zero, everyone has aged, their apperances are much more grownup, and the structure of the racing teams have changed in a way that will stay for the remainder of the CF series. It's hard to get into details without spoiling everything but watch as Shinjyo & Miki hit it off, new foes enter the racing world, instability with Aoi Racing, and Hayato's attempt to be the first ever three-time world champion!
