| Having heard good things about this series I was nonetheless positively surprised and breezed through it in two days: The series is excellent.
While the animation is a bit dated the character designs are very distinctive and appealing. (I noticed at one point that you can probably tell the girls apart just by looking at their *legs*) it suffers from old-style coloration and some awkward framerate and repeating animations at times, but the characters are so strong I feel compelled to give it a good score.
The musical score (provided by the Warzaw Philharmonic Orchestra) is excellent: Indeed it is one of the most effective uses of music I've seen. The intro song is fitting and decent enough but it is the repeated (and very effective) use of instrumentals that make much of the shows dramatic scenes stand out so much.
The story, while refreshing and good enough, borders on the cliché: It is well enough told, but not anything you haven't seen before if you're familiar with the Sports genré. There are enough twists to lift it beyond the mediocre, but I can't say it is a truly great story.
The characters on the other hand are excellent: Wonderfully realized and charming. At the end you are left wishing for more from this great team of girls and their hangarounds. The Chairman's strained relationship with her daughter Izumi is especially well-played (although it could have used more development).
Overall I must say that this is probably one of the best series I've seen in a while, and it probably fits into my top-10. For any fans of sports animé, romance, or just well-told character pieces this is a series warmly recommended.

| This is the first sports anime that I really finshed watching mostly beacuase of the average episode count and because I am still scrapping together funds for Hiraku no Go. This was a pleasant series to watch and surpassed all my humble expectations.
Animation wise this is just about dated. Nevertheless it was not offensive to the eyes though the SD pics that were inserted in the middle were cute. The characters were not beautifuly drawn, but in the spirit of this campaign for real beauty, they do look average.
Sound wise the theme was memorable to say the least and I still can't get it out of my head. The sound track was more than suitable for this series and not annoying to the point of death.
The Characters were the focus of this series and took more precendence that the great sport of baseball. Each character was uniques with her own dreams and asprirations, as well as reasons for taking up the sport. Still for Ganmo to lose her edge when facing her little love interest one must still wonder why she did not just completely lose it and bean him. Then again for a young lady to pitch at the level of a major league pitcher, one must simply abide by suspension of disbelief.
In terms of rewatch value the ending sticks with you no matter what, so there is little point in rewatching other than for the sake of nostalgia.
In terms of enjoyment this was very much a delightful suprise as I expected it to focus more on the sport than the characters though in the end it turned out alright. The ending is very much bitter sweet and in many ways more realistic, though it is almost as memorable as the Red Sox winning the series and beating the Yankees. (Thus ending the Curse of the Bambino)
-A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon

| Because phrases like “Orgasmic Strike!” and “Bases Loaded Flash Slash!” are not to be seen in Princess Nine, I was able to ignore that Ryo Hayakawa, a girl of fifteen, can pitch almost as fast as professional male baseball players. Conspicuous exaggerations are only a characteristic of the sports genre, but I draw the line with characters shouting the names of athletic techniques. Although certain impossible abilities run shamelessly rampant in Princess Nine, everything else about the show-the stuff that really matters- is surprisingly practical. With charming characters and convincing (but not so subtle) drama, Princess Nine is a pleasant surprise.
Although Ryo’s dream initially has nothing to do with baseball (her biggest dream is to have a successful Oden shop), the fact remains that she begins the story kicking ass with her remarkably fast pitches. If starting so much above everyone else, you can only end up that way and that leaves little room for skill growth. Fortunately, this anime is not so much about baseball than about the characters that play it. In fact, I was surprised on how little time is dedicated to the actual sport. There are only three baseball games in this anime and only two of them are particularly exciting. I didn’t mind this at all, but it’s worth noting for someone looking for a hard-core sports anime saturated with game-related trivia and terminology.
To compensate for the lack of ball play, Princess Nine chooses to devote its time to unraveling character back-stories, most of it centering on Ryo’s father and a love triangle between three of the characters. Being that there is such great interaction between the characters, the execution for P9 was very well-done; however, there were many times when the story loses the drama in place of melodrama. This anime was almost like a soap-opera at times and the final episode was hilariously over-the-top. Other than that, the story is a great one. It’s well-paced, interesting, and maybe even a little moving.
Admittedly, I only watched one other sports anime (Hikaru no Go), but I imagine the genre is as formulaic as any and there are certain rules the genre must follow: the rival (there must always be a rival) must be more remarkable than the protagonist; and most importantly, the show must offer something outside the sport to interest the average viewer. Princess Nine is a character piece and each girl has her own individual reasons to play (or not play) baseball. Ryo is a fairly routine character; there’s nothing remarkable about her other than her fast pitches. Her rival, Izumi is a much better character and the best in the series. Although she develops in a predictable and linear way, her iron-willed determination and occasional clever thinking makes her the star of the anime. She definitely has the best scenes. Hiroki was a stereotype. Despite that he has a heavy impact on both Izumi and Ryo, he actually has little screen time. And when’s he’s on, I can’t help but roll my eyes. The other girls that make up the baseball team are all charming in their own ways and every one has at least one episode centered on them. But I must say that episode twenty-two was the worse.
Princess Nine is proof that anime, with the right implementation, can make anything look good. It’s also proof that an alarming amount of anime fans have absolutely no taste. Either that or they’re just constantly looking in the wrong places. In any case, the show is sadly ignored and invisible and there’s really no reason for it. Surprisingly engaging, Princess Nine is one of the most underrated anime I’ve seen in some time.

| Seems like an average anime but it isn’t. This series surprise me, this series is a very good. The plot is simple – get in to the finals. The plot is remarkably develop. In other words, no fillers running round episode, all episodes add to the final goal. This series also has excellent drama. The “manager” of the team is a really annoying character however the rest are believable characters. The coach of the team is really a likable character. The animation of this series is average. I really LOVE the ending of this anime because is quite different of what were used to and give it more realism.
Do not take lightly this anime it can surprise you.
The music of this series is above average. Opening song and ending song are really good.

| The story might been average, but the passion about love and sport is exccess the normal anime.
First half, ep.1 to around 10 is all about recuit all player together to play in girl baseball team. There's nothing special here, just a regular sport-anime talk and passion about being a real baseball-player. They shows us 3 girls at first then each girl would join the team for every ep.
Then they moved on to our main character past, about her late-father who is a legendary baseball player(you can guess it, he already dead). The story here will get you instested and keep on finding why he did that and this. The ending for the conflict also end character hate for each other.. atleast not for romance. You will know what i'm talking when you saw it yourself.
Afther they got whole team together and background story are over, that's where interesting part(or atleast I think it was) start to happen. Romance starting to develop in bad way. Acutally romance had been going on and on from the very first ep. but they concentrate on baseball and keep the boys to supporting role. ep.21 through out the end you'll a lot of tension build up between players and bad things start to happen around them. Just when you thought the team gonna break apart... they keep fighting, solves one problem at the time, but still more problem coming out at their way. Come almost the end and that BITCH Izumi still didn't confess to Ryo... I really got mad trying to watch the ep. go by seeing they just misunderstood each other. THANKS god they made a happy ending otherwish I'm going to insane.
Passion, love, conqure everything? If you think that way you will love this one. One more thing.. is it just me or this series kinda have strong bond of love like Escaflown did.

| So my friend told me: "I'm going to order this baseball anime." "You got to be joking!" Well, he wasn't so I ended up borrowing Princess Nine after he generously told me how glorious it was. Still I didn't have any great expectations since I haven't liked sports anime much.
Wrong again. I ended up liking this a lot. The way the team is build up is interesting, there's a lot development going on both with sports and on personal level. The main character Ryo concentrates more on her personal troubles since she's already a kick-ass pitcher. There's some really nice drama coming from her relationship with Takasugi and Izumi and from the story of her mysterious father. Well enough to keep me interested.
But this is not enough. All the other members of the team have their problems too, some of them with nice twists (like Yuki's UFO fantasies). Izumi shines in the team when her realistic and cruel comments hit the spot. Usually my problem is with sports anime is that scripted games don't give me any excitement but this time characters were developed enough that I started to care whether they win or lose.
Which brings us to the matches. They are played out well. Because this is only 26-episode series they don't become overly streched-out. Every match they play have more meaning than being just another training match or a stepping stone on the way to the finals. This makes them more interesting to follow. Also I loved how they played it dirty in the second match. No morally uptight people who can only win if it's fair and with pure sports power. The coach is a god!
I recommend Princess Nine to anyone even if you wouldn't have liked sports anime before. It has more personal drama than a usual sports series and has interesting matches lined up. With good animation and music this is solid enjoyment for all the 26 episodes.

| This is one of the best sport anime I have seen.
It has a great storyline and great character development.
What I like best about it is that the matches are not extremely long like in other sports anime.
Some sports anime draw out the matches for too many episodes! I hate that.
Anyway, I love this show, the music is very good in it as well.

| I don't like sports anime, ever since i was introduced to Wild Striker or Slam Dunk, i didn't find anything appealing about them, they had the standard plot in which a team or individual must rise to the top beating all competitors while meeting rivals all the way.. in a sports theme or another, either Basketball, Soccer or in the case of what im writing, Baseball.
Princess Nine has whole-heartedly suprised me, for a 26 episode series based on the sports genre, it was certainly a lot different form the usual 26+++ episodes of Wild Striker, Slam Dunk, Inital D or any of those one-themed/sports shows. Princess Nine showed me that there could be more to the genre then meets the eye.
Sure enough, Princess Nine still had that traditional formula as a standard sport story show, a group of girls aim to acheive the highest positions, while on the way they encounter very predictable events (like self-confidence or first matches are too tough etc). Fair enough, i expected something from this show, something which i despised from this genre (thats why i hardly venture in this area).
However, as i said, Princess Nine is different, its not so common a sports-themed show is 26 episodes, as it is WAY too short to fit in many things. Princess Nine actually emphasises on the importance of family and friends during the whole show, each girl generally has a problem of their own, whether it's to do with their family (e.g. Ryo with her father) or friends (e.g. Yuki with her alien friend Fifi), these little problems provided the most entertainment for me. more so than the half a dozen or so of baseball action. The development of characters is generally good, thoguh somewhat inconsistent in terms of substance and actualy events that occurs, Princess Nine has done well in fleshing out the characters. Though the angsy, non-sense romance in this anime is a major turn off for me, there ar ebetter romances out there, and Princess Nine isn't one of them.
Though what i didn't like from the sports genre is present in here, Princess Nine has suprised me with good characters with enough drama for me to enjoy, instead of getting bored senseless with standard sports stuff.
Enjoyable, and a good suprise anime for me.
Overall: 7.5/10
Grade: B

| I cant believe only 20 of us have reviewed this great series. We need to spread how great this story is. The animation is really bad, and almost a turn off. The music was nice, and the voice actors were talented, which was a plus. The story is very amazing! I really enjoyed it. For a series to get me really involved with the characters by loving them, hating them, questioning them, forgiving them, and then loving them is a great series in my eyes. The animation might turn people away, but dont judge a book by its cover and watch this great anime.

| This is a great sport anime nice baseball mixed with romance. The animation is nice and lovely characters. All nine players comes from a different background, has her own abilities and different personalities. Nice mix very enjoyable.
The love triangle between the 2 main character and the boy every girl likes isnt that interesting. Its very predictable but it was nice to see.
If you dont like baseball you can still like this anime because there isnt alot baseball games in this anime. Its mixed with some good drama. The story is nice and it has a great ending definitly worth watching.

| when I first saw the trailer for princess nine I was like ill a baseball anime. I'm obviously not a baseball fan. I subscribed to the anime network which princess nine airs on. I said ok let me see what this is about and I have been in love with it ever since. If u don't like baseball it doesn't matter, I thought the story would only be about baseball but the story is bigger than that. The animation is so so, but the imense story compensates for that. I love the way all of the characters come from different backgrounds, have their own dreams and their own personalities. This has become my favorite anime. Some of the episodes were a little drawn out, but still they were essential to the story. I rate this anime a 10 all the way. I rarely pay 60 dollars for anime box sets, but this is one I had to have. If u are biased like I was in the beginning u should give it a try like I finally did, and u will love it.

| this was really good, even though formulatic mostly, but it had a very coherent and organized content. the ending theme was really heartwarming, it got stuck in my head for days. the relation between ryo and izumi was very interesting.
i want to add also that i liked that "fifi" girl, Azuma, and i wished if the expanded a little bit more on her background. there was the scene when her "fifi" got back to home, and her friends were encoureging her, and the sudden light started to appear from the sky, i thought that was inspirational, and they played a wonderful piece of music there too.
but i have to agree that the love affair wasn't that interesting, they should've focused less on it in the latter eps. also, it was too short, and the ending wasn't on par with the rest of the series.
overall, i like this series, and it got me really hooked. en'f said.

| This was a really good show that got stuck with a not so great ending. Focusing on a rising all-girls baseball team there's a great emphisis on teamwork, friendship, beating the odds, shooting for your dreams, etc. The baseball segments are great with alot of detail put into the sounds of the game, as well as the mechanics. Each of the nine players comes from a different background and brings something new to the table for the team. People might get upset about them being stereotypes, but who cares. By the end they've each helped one another grow and mature through their experiences.
I wasnt very impressed on how much of an impact the two main characters (ryo and izumi) personal lives impacted their performace in baseball so much. The three-way releationship between Ryo, Izumi, and Hiroki is a little rediculous too.
As far as the ending goes, it works, but it's the type of ending that will make you ask "shit, what happens now?" or will make you go read the manga to find out.
All in all P-Nine is an above average anime.

| Thjis is going to sound odd, this being a japanese animation... but dude, what's up with the eyes? out of the 300+ anime series, movies, and OVA's i've seen, these eyes have GOT to be the weirdest. i can't get past those eyes... that's why the animation didn't get at least a 9.
it has some cute songs, and considering it's an anime about baseball great attention was paid to sound quality and detail.
as for the story and character development... it was only barely different enough from the american movie "A League of Their Own" to escape low low scores. it's almost the same damn plot, and the same characters (playing the same positions, i might add).
All that aside, it's a fun anime and i would reccoment watching it, as long as you've already seen the really good anime like Stellvia or Last Exile. but seriously... what's up with their eyes???

| Princess Nine is "sports anime" a kind of anime series that you don't see licensed in the US all that often. It's also a really good one--the story centers around a high school girl, Ryo, who inherited amazing pitching ability from her father. The chairman of a girls' high school nearby, who knew Ryo's father before he was disgraced by a baseball scandal and died young, sees Ryo and decides the time is right to build a girls' baseball team, a team that can compete on an equal basis with the boys and ultimately win the national high school baseball championship at Koshien Stadium.
With assembling the cast, training for Koshien, and a love triangle between Ryo, hyper-competitive (and one of my least favorite characters in anime) Izumi, and the star of the guys' baseball team (forgot his name) there's a lot going on over 26 episodes. It's mainly drama and baseball, but the actual amount of baseball in the series isn't too much--most of the focus is what goes on inbetween games.
The downside is not being a huge fan of sports anime this series doesn't have much rewatch value for me. The animation also starts out strong but in a couple episodes falls off a cliff. And the last few episodes are...well, OK, but not as strong an ending as I think they could have written. Still, a decent series overall.

| well, at first I thought: great! another good sportanime with a little romance in it
romance? you can't call it that, the love confession from hiroki was cute, but "i love you and thats why i batter you out"???
and after the first ep i've hoped that there could be a love triangle, but it wasn't really that exciting
this anime reminded me of Battle Athletes Victory. the main character is not, like in other sport-anime, the best player and beats everything. its just a girl which happen to pitch good and then learns a technique from her father
when i think of pot, where Ryouma thinks every 10 eps of a new attack ..
the end was a little bit to fast, you don't even see the matches, only seconds where they're good
