Although seemingly pointless/boring, as some reviewers here have thought, Lost Chapter of the Stars: Birth gives some interesting background to Lafiel's origin as well as a little bit of Abh culture and customs. For example, the headband is a significant piece of accessory the Abh dons, and raises interesting questions of their origins as the Abh that were on the ship were "genetically different" and perhaps "better" than the current Abh. Lafiel's reparents, joined by love, set out on a honeymoon and rendezvous with an ancient Abh ship. After a little misadventure, the pair return to give birth to Lafiel, and returns the story back to the very beginning of the series.

Having watched some space comedy/tragedy from Galaxy Angel, I really thought there has to be more stories that are more heart-provoking and tragic than the good ones that came from GA. And LCotS:B fills a portion of that spot (to be filled by more space tragedies!) - the atmosphere given from the old piece of scrap metal really pushed up my enjoyment level. A hundreds-of-years-old ship of fools floating in space, bound for eternity, and a sad but must-be-done act that sends even more things bound for eternity. That's some good sci-fi right there!

Recommended to Crest of the Stars fans.

This unneccessary and rather boring addition to the Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars series is about Lafiel's parents and their discovery of an abandoned spaceship and the later birth of Lafiel herself.

This short OVA is nowhere near the quality or enjoyment of the rest of the series; I found the entire OVA pointless and boring. As this story is mainly before Lafiel is born, the main characters of the series Jinto and Lafiel get only 30 seconds or so screentime at the end (the beggining of Crest of the Stars).

The story is rather boring, and though it does reveal some facts about the Abh and the circumstances surrounding Lafiel's birth, none are really too interesting and are rather predictable.

Neither of the parents are really that interesting in this OVA; I found their characters much more interesting in the other parts of the series.

The animation isn't too great; the spaceships arn't too detailed and the special effects arn't that fantastic. The soundtrack also wasn't anything too amazing or interesting.

Only watch if you want to complete the "Stars" series fully; there really isn't that much to see with this OVA.

After having watched all the Seikai related episodes I watched this. Instead this should be the first episode to watch but I feared it would spoil some things in CoS (though not that many as it turned out). The first 10-15 minutes are extrememly boring, just having to watch Lamhirh's parents tour in space discussing about boring stuff. Only after her birth it gets interesting, but till then only a few minutes remain to the end.

Watch this better after the end of CoS

Seikai no Danshou aka The Lost Chapter puts through forward a short incedent between the parents of Lafiel and how they decide to get together. The animation is the same of Seikai no Monshou (What do you expect? It was released as an extra with the Seikai no Monshou DVD). The story is interesting and enjoyable for it's 23 minutes of running time and provides the background of the parents of Lafiel. It ends with Lafiel leaving on the Calicke to escort Jinto to Gosorth. Consider it as a bonus with your Seikai saga collection and nothing more. If you're looking for a deep revelations about Lafiel - you're barking up the wrong OVA!

An unnecessary addition to Crest of the Stars. This is a short tale about Lafiel's parents finding a mysteries wreck of a spaceship in their days of youth. Also shows the young Lafiel getting her assignment that will lead to the first episode of Crest of the Stars.

Included on the Banner of the Stars II DVD-release under the title "Passage of the Stars: Birth", this bonus-episode lacks seriously in terms of content. It could work as a short introduction to Crest of the Stars, but even then it would be rather pointless.

Animation and sound are technically of relatively good quality, but there hasn't been much artistic sense in use - everything looks and sounds somewhat uninspired. Stylewise very similar to the actual series, though.

Overall, quite worthless alone, but a nice little companion-piece to the actual space-opera trilogy.

if your looking at danshou u better have watched CotS and all the other SNS's and loved it. cuz this is just for ppl to fill their SNS appetite :p This is a side story/prequal to CotS and it focuses on Lafiel's parents and a very short "adventure/honeymoon" they have.
story wise, this is problably the most lacking of the others since it is only 1 ep (30 min) long. the only thing this series really answers is a "child of love" question that lafiel talked about in CotS.
this is something problably will watch only once since it doesn't have any signifigance but it was nice to see what plakia and lafiel's father was like since u see them very rarely in the series.

A side story of crest of the stars. The problem it relies heavily on Crest of the stars. You must see that before understanding this, which is actually its main problem. As a standalone its quite bad actually.

While managing to be better than any random, later episode in Banner of the Stars, Passage of the Stars: Birth is a decent way to spend a half hour. It should be said, however, that it does not stand by itself; it's best to view this after Crest, the first installment in the series. Remember when Lafiel was wondering if she was a "child of love?" Passage of the Stars gives an answer.

This is a nice little addition to the Crest of the Stars Saga. Should be watched after the season. I don't fully understand the story, but the bits I did understand adds nice background into the rich universe of the series. The masterful production has the typical flavour of the Crest of the Stars series. A meaningless anime on its own, but it integrates well with the series, and should definitely be watched if you liked the series.

I rate this highly as it does so well as part of the Seikai universe. Athough it's true that it doesn't do so well as a standalone ova, it's not MEANT to be, and therefore I consider it appropriate to rate it with the series taken into consideration. After all, my ratings would also drop for Kenshin Reminiscence if I was to judge that as a standalone ova.

This was a short episode mainly to give more background on Lafiel's parents. It suceeds. it has a little plot about an abanded ship. I think it may give more info the Abh, but quite frankly, I didn't quite understand that part.

a nice little diversion if you are into the crest of the stars universe, otherwise, not worth the time.

I guess I forgot to review this one when I was reviewing the rest of the series. That speaks much by itself. It's a short, fairly entertaining story...but isn't very special by itself. But as background for the Seikai universe it's significant, especially for the numerous fans who are starved for absolutely anything they can get.

This is a story of Lamhirh(lafiel)'s parents, <Birth>. It is one of several "Danshou (short story)" from "Seikai no Monshou Readers' Guide" published in 1998 IIRC.

If you don't know Crest of the Stars, there's not much thing to see here. There are a couple of interesting things happening in the way, but the breadth of the background is too much to be appreciated just by this short anime.

On the other hand, if you watched Crest of the Stars and/or its sequels, give this a shot. If you are looking for "Danshou", it must mean you are hooked at Crest of the Stars series, right? ;-) In such a case, you'll enjoy this one quite a lot.

It in itself shouldn't really be evaluated, since it is more of a special to the Seikai no Monshou series. HOWEVER, it matches well with the mood and everything of Seikai no Monshou and it is difficult to tell that it is different (written by a different person I think).
It just gives you a little more insight into Lafiel's parents and shows that she really is a "Daughter of Love" (Watch Seikai no Monshou to understand this reference).
mmm... Watashi no Kawaii Denka ^____^

This special covers the story of Lafiels parents. It's nice to see a little special about the whereabouts from Lafiel but in my opinion this special doesn't add anything to Crest of the Stars.

Dieses Special kommt mir irgendwie überflüssig vor, ich hätte mir gewünscht es wäre mehr auf die Kindheit Lafiels eingegangen worden. Muss man nicht gesehen haben um die Trilogie zu verstehen.
