| This is one of those animes that I watched out of boredom, and to my surprise, I find this enjoyable despite of all those weird looking characters and strange occurences.
The animation is pretty okay, the color is vivid but not dark so it's pleasant to the eyes. But look at some of the characters, they're one of the wierdest things you'll ever see. Plue is like a dog but with a pointy nose. Griffon is like a bean with many legs. And all those side characters, most of them looks like an ex convict but there are also those who looks human like Haru, Elie and Musica.
The story is about Rave, a stone which gives power to the sword of the one who is chosen to possess it, and that person is called Rave Master. Haru Glory is chosen to be the master by the dog named Plue, a pet of Resha who made the stones. Haru began to travel to different continents to search for his Dad and to collect the stones in order to save the world from the evil hands of Rareglove. As he was travelling he met Elie, a girl which resembles Resha and they start their journey together with Plue and Griffon, and along the way they meet people who became their companions.
Believe it or not, the story is pretty complicated and sometimes touching. It's hard to watch the first 15 or so episodes as they are a bunch of fillers but it gets more and more interesting as the story unveils. I was surprised by the story in the second half when all the truth is revealed. The ending is disappointing though, just when the things starts to heat up, it ended. What about all of those questions that are left unanswered? well, you gotta read the manga.
As I said above, there are touching stories here which can make you really sad and pity the characters. One, the part when Resha created the stones 50 years earlier was told. Two, Reina's past, though she's a villain you'll feel sorry for her. Three, this is the most touching part, it's a story about two bestfriends who became the worst of enemies because of circumstances. Just imagine your family be killed in front of your own eyes and when you turn to your bestfriend for help, you'll find out that he's the one who ordered it. And when you get the chance for revenge, killing his wife in front of him and planting a stone of destruction inside him making him unable to come home to his children, you'll find out that it's not his fault for what happened to your family and it was just a misunderstanding. what would you feel if you were in their shoes? This is the episode which made me really hooked. It was just so sad.
This is supposed to be a good anime if it weren't for those strange characters. I think this will be appreciated more as it has a nice and intriguing story. I wish there's another version of this in which the strange cast is eliminated from the story and be replaced by wholesome characters. This is one of the few series in which you'll sympathize even with some of the antagonists because they are not really bad guys. Another thing that I like is its humour, it's funny in a strange way.
The things that i don't like in this is that sometimes the weirdness goes beyond its limit. Examples are: 1. Plue being like a balloon with no air when doused with hot water, 2. Griffon's existense in the story is ridiculous, 3. There are many pointless fights which only prolong the series, 4. the first episode is one of the worst ever as it just nonsense, its like telling the audience "don't watch this crap", and many may just be repulsed just by watching the first episode, 5. It contains some of the strangest ideas ever, like seeing an island in which it rains all year long but to find out later that they're just makinf a movie about rain so they manipulated the weather, 6. seeing those soldiers who are singing and dancing in chorus and I dont know if i'll laugh or be annoyed.
I cannot recommend this to all, only to those people who is open minded and has the guts to watch through the first 10 episodes. But I think all of you should try watching this, you might find it fun and interesting.

| This turned out to be a pretty decent anime. At first , the first 2 episodes turned out to be kind of kiddish, and then first 10 episodes were not as exciting, but afterwards, the plot thickens and it captures you in. Some characters maybe kind of weird...physically...but otherwise it'd definitely recommendable.

| I'm a guy that will usually be hooked to any type of shounen as long as I had enough time to enjoy it. You can tell as I've thoroughly enjoyed Monster Rancher and Ultimate Muscle, which when I look back, were only average, yet I followed daily. I guess I'm just a shounen type of person. For the love of my shounen tastes, I decided to pick up this rather unknown anime, Groove Adventure Rave, but of course it has been renamed to Rave Master here in America. When I got past the first couple episodes, I was rather disappointed in what I had gotten myself into. But when I got past those couple episodes, I couldn't believe I had thoughts of giving up on it.
Fifty years ago, there was a battle between two countries. One side had Shiba on it who was given Rave, and the other country used Darkbring; an evil energy source that gives its users supernatural powers. Shiba destroyed Darkbring, ending the war. In current times, Haru is looking for his half breed of a dog and bug, Plue. Though he encounters Elie in a casino. Deciding on a whim to join him in his journey to find Rave, she...joins him on a whim. Haru was given the Ten Commandments; the sword that Shiba used to slash Darkbring. With Demon Card roaming around with their Darkbring, Haru is determined to put an end to their evil ways, collecting the Raves that are scattered around the world to destroy Darkbring once again.
The story sounds rather unoriginal and cliched. It is rather cliched even deep into the plot of the anime, but it is definitely not unoriginal. It just keeps on getting more and more amazing as the story progresses. It starts off like a snowball rolling down a hill; it gets bigger and bigger as time passes. That's exactly how Rave Master went. It remained mediocre for the first season, but come the second season, it got better and better, until it reached its destination. So much story elements are just being fed to you on a rather daily basis, that you just can't stop watching it!
What makes me love a shounen more than its awesome plotline are its engrossing characters. There's nothing I love more than good characters. I learned to dislike the characters in the beginning. Haru and Elie just annoyed me. Though soon after, I learned to un-dislike them. Well there was still a part of me that didn't like them, but I still liked them more than before. Musica is your usual serving of a lazy and badass member of the crew, but he was a necessary ingredient to the cast to make the crew interesting. Let, who was acquired later, is your daily humble and quiet warrior with a code of honour. Though what made the group so lively was the presence of Plue; probably the cutest thing in anime. How he cites his name to communicate like a Pokemon is just one of the cutest things I've ever heard.
While the villains were great, there was a little bit too much spice added to their models. Some of them looked rather exaggerated, while others looked way too far fetched. However, their personalities are really well developed with great pasts to justify their cause. I'm actually getting a bit tired of the entire "Pure evil" act coming from the antagonists of any show, so it's a refreshing change to see some innocence put into their character.
As for the animation and sound departments, they delivered. Well, the sound delivered more. Like said before, some of the models of the characters were rather exaggerated, but they still nonetheless looked fantastic. I can't say the same for the quality though, though I really don't let quality get in my way of my judgement. The music is really excellent that has a wide range of tunes to fit each moment nicely. Plus, I love all the opening and ending themes. The first opening and ending were on the more serious side, while the second and last opening and ending were more on the fun side. Though that's exactly what Rave Master is; a serious, yet extremely fun anime. Plus, I can't stop listening to Hot Air Balloon, the second ending.
Some say that my flaw to reviewing is that I'm rather biased, and would normally ignore the bad parts of an anime or game, and let only the good times override my opinion. To please those haters out there (just kidding), I'd rate the first season as a 7/10, and the second 9.5/10. If you combine the two, you'd roughly get a number around 8.4 or 8.5. The second season is some of the best shounen material I've ever seen, while it's nearly the opposite for its second season, but I have yet to watch a ton of shounens. The anime did end rather abruptly, leaving the viewer to read the manga that eventually ends it. However, I never did find myself disappointed with how it ended. It'd odd, as Angel Sanctuary was rather excellent but ended abrupty, yet I found that to be mediocre. But I learn to trust my conscience and gut feeling, and they tell me this is a frikkin sweet ass anime. I was disappointed it ended, but not in the case that it's incomplete. Rave Master really starts off slow, but it turns full gears in the second season. I suggest that if you can garner up enough patience, check out Rave Master.

| I enjoyed this anime. In fact, this is probably one of my faves. But after watching the series again I began seeing the good and bad points here.
Animation: Average. It should've been better since it was produced in 2001. There were also some really weird and entertaining facial expressions.
Sound: An exciting and catchy beat that's probably too light-hearted. Overall it's enjoyable.
Story: Very cliched theme, actually. You'll find that the story is vaguely similar to most RPG stories. It almost seems like a paordy to the RPG genre.
Characters: Almost all characters shown have their own little side story but the main focus is the two protagonists Haru and Elie. Most supporting characters only have an episode or two about their lives so character development is more one sided to a selected few characters.
Value: Not much to expect if you rewatched it cause you already know what's going to happen next.
Overall, this is a sort of anime that's mostly not supposed to be taken seriously. It's nice to watch if you have nothing to do. So try giving it a watch and see if you'll be hooked or not.

| Groove Adventure Rave is truly an implicit masterpiece of animes that's constantly bashed by those who don't have enough patience to give this series a better look. For me it's one of the most underrated of all times.
Some people complain that this series is too kiddish and have a senseless plot. But those are arguments that are valid only for those who are lazy of mind and can't do a better analysis. In fact, Rave has a bit of lack of blood, but this doesn't matter that much, after all, since it's balanced with the spectacular battle scenes that engage you until the last moment, and even without blood cause a great impact in the spectators.
Lots of Violence never was and never will be a requeriment for making a good anime, and it doesn't automatically make an anime bad. So it's better for you review your concepts before going all out rotulating as a series for Kids.
The plot, at first, isn't too attractive, but as the anime goes on you get more and more embraced by the fantastic story that has behind it. With a light environment and a good introduction of the characters in the start you're slowly conducted to the dense parts. I'll Give more details of it on the "Story Review".
I think that people who are complaining, talking such things like "OMG! RAVE NO PLOT! ZERO ZERO" didn't watched the series til the end. Since the most important parts of plot are revealed just in the final half, i.e (the True Purpose of Rave, King's Motives, and some other things that I don't want to spoil to you. ;P).
For the Technical aspects, I think that Studio Deen has, again, made a good job. Animation is excellent overall, it just has some fails at, like in the first episode where the Lines around Haru get out of focus. But things like this are easily forgivable, since the animation for the later confronts are really, really GREAT! I'd call it epic, but this would sound too biased. heh ;)
Rave also succeded into the variation between dramatic and comic moments, making a very good mix. When you're all commoted because some bad thing happened, afterwards there's a funny relief, that drags you out from sadness to happinness in a glimpse. The balance is very good and makes it good in both aspect, this is how a Shounen anime shall be.
The character's are great, every one of them is unique in every aspect. Different Personalities, Objectives... Everyone have something that they're looking for, there aren't any vague personalities among them. And I don't think there's anything too cliched. Aside one thing, that is the only critique I have to do: At the Start of the Series Haru sounds a bit too "I'm the good guy and will save the world", the typical cliche main character from Shounen Animes, but fortunately this gets to a slight degree on the further episodes, and we get to see more of the true Haru's personality.
Creativity is one thing that surely, Hiro Mashima (author of Groove Adventure Rave) has, so you don't can complain about the "retarded" (I don't really see how they're retarded. In my conception they sound cool, unless you're a Japanese fanboy that despise everything that's ocidental) names like "Silver Rhythm" and "Ten Commandments". He created very original characters, like Plue and Griffon Kato, and for me, characters are far more important than just names. ;P
Finally, I can say that Groove Adventure Rave is a truly enjoyable serie if you're looking for some action, good plot and comedy, all together. While watching this, I never thought there was a boring moment, everything was perfect and I had lots of fun. The only bad thing is that the End isn't too satisfactory, so you should really get the manga after finishing the anime.
Well. Thanks for reading, I tried my best to make a good and unbiased review, it's my first here after all. ^^' And I hope this helps Rave gets a bit more of the recognition that it deserves, because it's really great.
See ya.

| I find this anime hasn't alot of violence compared to the various ones I've seen but, despite how bad people made it out to be, I found it good.
It seems like a childs anime, but there is actually more to it. Theres lots of emotion involved and the episodes can leave you hanging.
Cute and well done. Nice fighting scenes too.

| An anime that kind of reminds me of the pace of One Piece. However, this is no way as good as One Piece.
Although an interesting adventure, the most important part of such animes are the characters, not the story line. Although the story basis is very interesting, In this anime, the characters carry nothign special about them. The only interesting thing is that weird horn=nosed animal that follows that guy around.
This anime is just one long dull journey. Animation is par. Fight scenes are pretty similar all throughout. YAY Lets wave a stick around - that's about as interesting as it gets.
Sound is sub-par because although its not a problem with quality but the subject matter. Music is nothing special, voices are typical of those childish animes.
There is nothing deep in this. No strong emotion carried in the characters, no tragic scenes, yet its not even that fun. Adventures just seem to go from event to event without carrying much of some solidarity.
In my opinion, not worth watching until the end.

| Let's admit it, this anime did not deliver us a great story, and it even made us crave when they made a finish to the series without even finishing the story itself. But somehow, it was still a good one.

| This was a really enjoyable anime. The character designs are nice and the animation gets better as the series progresses. I also liked the opening songs. My main gripe is the majority of the jokes were kiddish and unfunny and there was way too much filler. The character are very lovable and interesting with alot of depth. Elie is probably one of my favorite female heroines, up there with Yomiko Readmon. She is funny and quirky and independent.

| Groove Adventure Rave is something that a friend lent to me. I didn't ask for it and I'd never heard of it before, but now I'm /so/ glad she gave it to me! I watched it in the original version, which I think is wicked. Haru sounds exactly like Link from "Legend of Zelda" when he's annoyed ^-^
One thing that really got to me (in a good way) is how the characters react with each other. Haru, Elie and Muchica, the main characters, are all represented very well. This is one of the very few animes and mangas that have made me cry at least once.
Overall, the story is great, the animation is great, the sound is great, the characters are great (except for the evil ones) the value is great and I REALLY enjoyed it. A must-see ^-^

| I am enjoying this series for the most part. My reason is not the plot but mostly for the bizare way things happen. The theme for the first 25 eps is catchy but at 26 i thought i was listening to the jackson 5 (note: not a good thing) The animation is smooth and clean. Characters drawing is pleasing.

| First thing you might notice, is the kawaii (still a drawing) of Plue and Elie. The story is pretty much linear as most reviewers suggested. Someone made a comparison with DBZ and I found that to be true. Must find Rave, meet bad guys, beat bad guys, convert some to allies. Linear story line, averagely developed characters, and sometime humorous scenes, made this an average anime. Definitely enjoyable for a while, but certainly not a keeper.
No spoilers, but the ending is will enrage most people. I am not sure if there's any OVAs, or Rave 2 coming, but it certainly looks like this was either: canceled, bought off, artists fired, or sequels canceled or in progress.

| I really enjoyed that anime.
Not original at all and even stole many stories and characters from other shows but still very very funny and enjoyable, so I don't care much about it.
If you liked it and want to watch something more serious I recommend about Inu Yasha, where I think most of the ideas in Rave were taken from.

| I get the impression the producers of this anime weren't aiming for anything serious, probably meant to cater to a younger audience. Story is nothing new, young hero goes in search of the magical items he needs to defeat the great evil, other haracters join his 'party' one be one. The fight scenes use a hell lot of recycled cells and don't show any blood (for that younger target audience), and in general aren't very exciting. The enemies aren't exactly very originally designed (one guy looks like he just jumped out of DBZ or visits Akuma's stylist), each seem only put there for the sake of having a 'boss' to fight for each piece of rave like some sort of video game.
I guess one good thing about Rave is how they allow each character their own good amount of screen time and development, which really should be expected of any long series *cough*HnG*cough*. Rave is a decent watch, but nothing outstanding or original here. For a more interesting long series, I would recommend Naruto or One Piece instead.

| Its good. The character: plue is the one to watch. Very kawaii. The story is almost the same with Dragon ball-with Haru finding rave to defeat dark bring. The Opening and ending music are cool. Get it
But after finishing this anime-you may notice that its not complete, The ending is a dissapointment. I am not sure if there is an OVA in the making-but in its current state-viewers will be frustrated with the way the story ends.

| The first season (i.e. the first 26 episodes) is simply great. It takes a little while to get absorbed but once you are, you'll get good entertainment.
Elie is cute although her character very quickly becomes a secondary one only to reappear in a very dramatic moment.
The second season is unfinished and leaves plenty of streams opened without concluding any of the stories started. The manga continues though... but that's not the worse defect: the mood is very different from the first season. One example: nobody dies in the first season, and it seems to be almost a rule. A lot of people does in the second. Too bad.

| An average anime, and with all the good animes I've seen so far I don't recommend wasting your time on this. No it is not bad, but average in all aspects or medicore if I use a stronger word. This is actually a fighting anime, this is revealed relatively late around episode 5-6 if I remember correctly. This anime resembles DBZ in the sense that they talk all the time instead of blazing hot action we get 10-15 mins of boring dialogs about the analysis of the opponents weakness. The action sequences are scarce and not very detailed the lack of blood makes it obvious that this is a series aimed at children. Oh and halfway through the show the makers realized they needed blood, and took the worst kind of action: drew black blood. It took me some time to figure out what is the black goo that is all over the face of the characters.

| Great adventure anime that has it all. Its got humour, action and emotions at time too with a nice soundtrack to throw in. Defiantly a nice anime to watch if your after a long series.
There are some memorable moments and there i like all the characters especially plue and griff who add humour to lots of the scenes. Only bad thing i could have against this anime was the ending. It seems maybe they run out of money or it wasnt as popular so they ended it pretty open to allow for another season.

| I Liked this Anime, I say this having watched the entire series (1 thru 51) Slow Start, and yes Plue does grow on you, but Giff most certainly will NOT!! It has its silly moments, two or three episodes devoted only to Plue and a certain 'Big-butted' bunch of idiots that could have been left out. And it seems to take forever for Haru to figure out how to use all his power. That said, this series is not over yet...
