| Full Metal Panic never really decided whether it wanted to be a serious war story or a light hearted comedy. As a result, it comes off as an odd, but fairly good mix of the two.

| This anime is rather bad... Why is it rated so high.
Basically I don't hate mecha/ I don't hate school life/ I don't hate comedy but this anime is just bad mecha/bad anime...
the premise is silly, but fun so I liked it but after that premise is exploited there's nothing left...
The story-line is awful (the mecha...), i couldn't care less cause it wasn't interesting and dumb to be quite honest. Hell, they don't even develop it, like the poeple who created thsi themselves diddn't know what the hell to do with it and so me not caring seemed mutual?
Most of the eps are quite boring/ thinks I care/ I don't care/ except the first few which are pretty funny. the arcs usually don't make much sense (in a bad way), not explained, sorta dumb, ridiculous?, just not interesting enough for me to care/be interested...
there's annoying fan-serivce, i get to see chidori's panties for no reason, the wind just so conveniently or the camera angle just happens to be, it especialy sucks cause I dont' like fan-service and chidori is unattractive...
actions cenes are boring, mecha are like toy robots enlarged = lame
comedy is good at least for 1st couple eps, after it starts to die out.....
they're trying to mix these genres and it's just not working.
Characters are cliche... tessa is pretty dull and I don't like her. THey don't really grow thus the comedy grows old, cause that's what it depended on.
oh and that bad guy is so LAME and has no background, just horrible. sousuke is the best character ouf the anime because he is unique though his naiveteness gets annoying/not funny soooon.
animation nis average, nothing really speciali though some of the CG is a little bleh.

I liked opening/ending/voice acting is fine/sound effects are fine.
I only liked the first couple eps when they were inschool but once they went on that field trip it was horrible and stayed that way.
more like dull metal panic? this anime is just boring, bad story, annoying fanserivce, comedy is the only redeeming thing but that's not enough to watch this to the end.
Is there any good anime with fanserivce anyways?? hardly any (usually the big hint the show sucks) but Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is one but this one is noooo.

| Very Good. In my point of view, FMP has everything of what I want to see in a series. A lot of comedy, action, technology, nice characters, each one with a very particular personality, fitting very well each other when they have time to know between themselves, and a lot of military scenes which, far from being boring, have a lot of real.

| Well when I started to watch this one I was pretty skeptic about all, because I doesn't like Mecha serieses at all. I'm not scifi people U know.
Suprisingly this was bit different, there was more than just mecha fighting US or Japan roxor in technology and other typical shit and cry baby main character or psyco girl ect.
Animation is good, but I prefer more gentle drawing lines and some times FMP is little stiff.
Sound world is really good, better than I ever could expected. No any annoying voice characters or boring musics etc.
Story, many says it's lousy or boring or doesn't make really sense, but the reason of all that is... It continues. So I think the story is quite deep after all, but I have seen Fumoffu and The second raid so it may be affecting my thinking.
Main characters are just awesome, the chemistry of Chidori and Sosuke was my driving force hole time, so because of that I liked even more FMP fumoffu than this one.
Enjoyment side... hmmmh well it was well made, fun and stuff so there shouldn't be major reasons why would it fail to be enjoyable.
If U want to watch well made series of robots, school-life and some kind of Romance then this one is one of the bests.

| This is by far the funniest anime I've ever seen. I am normally not into these robot-type animes, and honestly, some of the action scenes did drag at times, but I absolutely loved the chemistry between sousuke and chidori. The music is decent and the animation is not too memorable however. This is an anime that could have been done better, nevertheless it is quite enjoyable if you are looking for a laugh.

| FMP is about a military guy who is sent to protect a high school girl who unknowingly possesses amazing technological knowledge. Overall, the series is pretty good but as other reviewers have said, it is overshadowed by the grandeur of it's successors (Fumoffu and TSR).

| Animation: it is quite good although it would be appreciated to show a bit more graphical design interest in other than the main mechanical units, because they seemed to be created just to be in the episodes without much of the detail.
Sound: it was great. Alhtouhg there was not much simultaniaty in it, but the music well fit the scenes also effects were good.
Story: main theme was well developed, unfortunetally, the way the story progressed was dissapointing. A lot of silly characters' actions, moreover one of the characters seemed to never die, like a cat with its 9 lives. Very frustrating event flow rationality-wise.
Character: there was seen some of the dark nature of human in positive characters (such as Konami); unforunatelly, it was just a dip in the bucket. All of the other characters were either goody goody boys/girls or an evil MAD vilains. Not much complexity in the personalities.
Value: I don't think that I would like to have it in my collections, not mentioning about re-watching it.
Enjoyment: there were some good scenes that were mostly created by the Kaname's character but that's all.

| this anime has a lot of good material in it but somehow it just doesn't deliver...
it is a common disease of a mecha anime to have an incoherent plot and poor story line and FMP is no exception...
whenever i watch mecha anime i cant just keep but compare it to gundam seed because story and character wise, it has become my standard for a good mecha anime...FMP did not meet those standards.
But over all i still enjoyed the whole series because of funny bits (something gundam dont have much), and the school arc is really enjoyable.the only thing that saved this anime are the characters, if you take them out this anime would have not much to offer...

| I have never been much of a fan of mecha anime and FMP did nothing to change my opinion. FMP isn't such a bad anime, it just isn't exceptional. FMP is about a militarily talented but socially inept teen named Sosuke and a girl in his class named Chidori. Like many current anime, FMP tries to include too many different genera and in the end fails at doing any one thing really well. For instance, we have one story that is about a crazy dramatic action plot to kidnap and kill off a bunch of people that Sosuke has to stop. We also have a comedy plot about Sosuke and his failure at integration with normal society. We have a third plot that is a romance plot between Sosuke and Chidori. Each one of these story arcs could have been expanded to make a really good anime, but when trying to show all three of them in parallel, they all manage to be sub par.
Overall, FMP is a decent anime that is worth watching once. It has some genuinely funny and intense moments, but the anime overall feels more like a variety show than a cohesive story.

| Going into this anime blindfolded, I really didn't know what to expect. To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this anime, but I'll try to be as sincere about it as possible. | By far my most favourite anime ever. Its true strengths lie in the story and characters in which a blend of genres are combined into one to make one fast paced, enjoyable anime. There is so much to take out of this anime I recommend to all. Its main emphasis is on mecha and the usual story of someone having to pilot a powerful machine but don't worry, this common base for a plot is completely uplifted by all the other things that are going in, it really brings the usual mecha routine something new. Must watch.

| Like a mirage in the desert so is Full Metal Panic! from a distance it looks pleasing, but the closer you get the more you begin to see it for what it really is... However it may take you until the end to realize it.

| Full Metal Panic is a perfect mix of comedy and action. Our main characters are Chidori Kaname and Sagara Sosuke, the latter of whom, has an uncanny ability to follow and be followed by mayhem. I'm sure he'll be one of the more interesting characters you'll come across.
The characterization is in FMP is enough to merit a great score already. Combined with a nice, visual plot, FMP turns out to be a great anime series that's filled with emotion and involvement. What I like most about it however, are the light-hearted comedy episodes that are stuck in between large chunks of action. I'm not a very violent guy, so I absolutely adored those episodes. Not to mention that there's also more than a dozen episodes of Fumoffu - ahh heaven.
And I'm a lazy guy too, so FMP is a great way to kick back and relax. Combining great animation and sound with a satisfying story and characterization makes for an enjoyable anime. Now I must watch the Second Raid. Bwahahahaa

| I watched this anime because I have heard such good things about its' sequels, and while this is an enjoyable anime, it isn't very technically sound, and falls short in several categories.
The animation is really not that impressive for an anime made in 2002. The mecha fights in Gundam 10 years ago were better animated than the scenes in this anime. The character models were decent, but not anything spectacular. I did notice a few inconsitencies; such as the pools of blood flowing from mecha cockpits after the pilots were killed, even though there is no way that that amount of blood exists in one human body.
The soundtrack is average; the opening and ending songs arn't very memorable, and don't particularly fit with the mood of the series. The voice actors did do a fine job, however.
The story was filled with a lack of background information and plot holes. How did Gauron learn about the Lambda Driver? How does he keep acquiring mechas with Lambda Driver capability when they are supposedly so rare? How does he keep surviving? What, exeactly, are the Whispered? Who built the submarine? How was Mithril formed? How is it funded? How did Tessa become the Captain? Why is Mithril's technology so far advanced?
Those are only a small sampling of the amount of questions you will have after watching this series. I enjoyed the school-life comedy episodes, especially the early ones with Sousuke following Chidori around. However, Gauron as the main enemy did not feel very convincing to me, and the ending falls short of my expectations; while it seemed the Lambda Driver was the ultimate weapon in battles, it was used only once, briefly, in the final battle.
The characters are pretty good; the only one I did not like was the goof-off sharpshooter Kuze. Sosuske made the series: without him this series would have been terrible. While he may lack the social graces (which everyone in the series finds either hilarious or despicable) he has been a mercenary since he was 8, and is an excellent soldier who will do any task he is assigned, without complaint, and do it well. While I found Chidori a bit annoying at times, she was interesting. My favorite female character would be Captain Tessa, who, while she is a brilliant strategist and excellent commander of Mithril and the submarine, is not very athletic and struggles to prove herself to her doubters.
I probably won't rewatch this series, except for maybe the "desert arc" or the "school-life arc" while were both very enjoyable points in the series. I will be watching Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid and Fumoffu! next, which are apparently much better than this anime.

| For me this started off as a very addictive, highly entertaining anime, filled with fun characters in fun situations, but soon turned into another anime altogether and bored the hell out of me.
I wasn't sure if I was watching the same anime halfway through and episode 15-17 had me thinking of forwarding the whole thing on (but I was worried I might miss something worth watching!), so I continued with it til the end, which wasn't too bad, but a little too inconclusive for my liking.
Overall it was very watchable (finished it in 3 evenings), but it was too bitty and should have stuck with one theme or the other!

| This is the best mecha anime i've ever seen.
Story and plot clashes together very well. Also i was impressed from sound effects and theme songs.
