This is one of the very rare series where I think the anime is better than the manga...... One reason is the filler epsiodes which are actually very good and give insight to the characters. And there's also meiling, which although is irritating. but actually gives more spice...

CardCaptor Sakura, the Anime was GREAT!!! So since i saw the manga on torrents, I thought i might as well give it a go. & So Here's my Review...

Okay, So where do i Start? The Art. The Art & Design of this Manga is Quite Good. The Dazzling Fashion Designs & the Design of the Characters & the Clow Card Characters, They were All Different & Unique. It's not those kind of art where "if the ppl didn't have their hairstyles, you can't tell the characters apart." Yeah, the Art & Design was Great, But not the best, since I have seen better and nicer drawings. Or maybe it is because of the low quality scans i have? So that's a 9 for it...

Okay, The Storyline is Great as Usual. Okay, I have quite a lot to say here, so be prepared. x) Okay, I personally prefer the Anime because the anime has 52 cards, which is a LOT of Variety. While the manga has only 19 Cards? I felt like quite a lot is missing. But that wouldn't really matter a lot. Because of the Fillers for the 52 cards, there was a Lot of Fun & Happiness & Character Development put together which made me grow Attached to the Characters and Loved them... =) However the manga has slacked off abit, xD... & there was less development and i wasn't as attached to the characters, so the story's emotions didn't hit me as hard as the anime did...<_< But despite this flaw, the Manga, just like chobits, Reveals Secrets that was Never Shown in the Anime. & Thus, If you think the Manga is going to be the same as the Anime, You're Wrong... Not Only That, the Weird Relationship's Emotions are even Stronger in the Manga. The Relationship between a 10 year old girl and a homeroom teacher? between a little boy and an Adult? & the Relationship of 2 Childhood Friends? & the Yaoi & yuri Relationships are Shown Even Stronger in this Manga.

For Me, I didn't mind it, & I found it interesting at, no matter how old you are, age doesn't affect love and relationships. But if those kind of relationships disgust you, you would be really disturbed when reading this manga then... (O_O) Anyway, because of the not-so-much character development and clow cards, I guess the story is toned down. But Nevertheless, It Deserves a 10 for Showing me Stuff I never Knew About... =)

The Characters are All Very unique, Like i said above about the character design, The Characters also possess Really Unique Attributes, Personalities & Characteristics and They are ALL Original & Great in their own Way. With Such Wonderful Ingredients like them being Put Together, It has Made a Really Enjoyable Wonderful Story. =)

But because of the less Character development as mentioned above, I have to give it a 9.

& also, Sadly, the character, Mei Lin is not in the manga. But I think she was a VeRY Great Character, so Extra Points for the Anime... =D

It even Contains some Great Emotions, Very Nice Work Done by Clamp. However, as mentioned, the emotions didn't hit me as hard as the anime did. Because the manga did not really have a lot of character development which made me grew as attached to the characters. However, It wasn't All that bad either. I Enjoyed the Manga cause it has Fun Times, Serious Times, Emotional Times, & as it Reveals Secrets in the Storyline which was Never Shown in the Anime.

Basically, I Just prefer the Anime because it has shown more character development and More Variety of Clow Cards. =) But the Manga isn't Bad either, & It's Quite Good, Really, So the Manga, CardCator Sakura is Definitely Worth a Read If You Enjoyed the Anime. =)

I saw Cardcaptor Sakura the anime and liked it. And I also am quite fond of this manga upon finishing it. Despites all its flaws, this is a very enjoyable anime that really draws it's readers. I can think of three reason: design, characters, and its simple yet very concrete and sweet storyline.

I've been a big fan of CLAMP. You can be sure that I was at the Anime Expo to see CLAMP ccouple days ago as well. The reason why I like there design so much is their attention on every little detail. They are so meticulous on every page. I am convinced that this manga actually show good CLAMP can be with the look of the anime. I liked Chobits, RG veda, Tsubasa Chronicle, angelic Layer and more, but hands down this is the best looking Clamp design of all time. Another thing I really impress me is how they design their backgrounds. For example when there a touching dialogue between sakura and yukito and yukito's hand is close to Sakura's face, there is a glow located right around Yukito's fingers. This doesn't look unnatural at all because the glows are all over the background, but one of them is located at the right place for us to focus on a specific part of the drawing. This kind "focus here" type designs are alway there for us to really see what the author wants us to see. Beside all this, the design is so cute. It's so sugary I'm gonna melt. It gets cheesy at times and may be a bit too much sugary, but hey I liked it in this manga.

The characters are all so lovable. there isn't a single bad character in this whole manga, but somehow conflict is still there and the story charges on. We are given a chance to give every character their deserved attention and love. Personally my personal favorite character was Shaoran, and I think many people share my sentiment. Although character background was lacking at certain times, certain personalities were vibrant and lovable. Eccentric characters and Tomoyo-Chan is always a good comic relief, and little side characters like the grand father is always nice for revealing some hidden feelings and thoughts inside the anime. CLAMP does a superb on with the characters.

The story is rather simple and this can be very bad and this problem is bigger in the anime because of it length. the fact that this is manga, saves its formulaic monster of the week from dying out. We are able to speed up through the more unimportant "Can it be a Clow Card?" scenes and focus on more interesting things. the story is rather simple, but it is very coherent and well thoughtout on most part. Though I think ending was a bit rushed (and I like the movie ending better), but nonethless very sweet. If there was a flaw, it would be that it was too predictable.

However, this manga should be read with some discretion in mind. This manga plays around with homo-eroticism, and pedophilia quite a bit. If you support homosexuality I think you will find many think that really are touching, while some who are against it will consider it not very good. As for me, I'm a liberal and I will end it at that. But I respect every individual belief so don't gimme trash for this. Pedophilia however is another Issue. I can imagine how young girls could have crush on their teachers, older men or older women. It happens all the time. But there come's point when someone is well into their at least 20's and fall in love with 4th and 5th graders, there's something that's wrong. I'm not going to say anything moral because human minds are something very weird. But I just just can't understand how someone so old can actually feel sexual love towards kids in a serious way. There are perverts so like kids in a perverted way, but there are adults here who are serious about their sexual love toward little kids, and I just don't think it's possible; the issue is is it possible in contrast to is it moral.

I really like the manga, and anime is entertaining too. I think this is one of the must read Mahou-Shojo manga. this is CLAMP's definitive work and you can see why in every detail of its design, sweetness in its story, and endearing characters.

I think I'll open up this review with a shocker. Over at Fanfiction.net.. there are 17,000 fanfics for Cardcaptor Sakura. That's right. 17k. It's unbelievable. Only one other shoujo anime and manga has yet to garner that much fame domestically.. the legendary Sailor Moon. Like Sailor Moon whose 26 volume manga went on to spawn over 250 episodes of anime and a bunch of movies, Cardcaptor Sakura's modest 12 volumes of manga went on to spawn 70 anime episodes and two movies. Both series generate a fandom that still hasn't totally died down even with age. That's not all these two series have in common, their anime adaptations were also released in english- horribly edited, horribly dubbed, and just maimed beyond belief. Both are monster-of-the-week fantasy/action tales with large casts of characters. And both also have something else lying beneath the simple surface..

There were reasons (albeit reasons I will curse for all eternity, they are reasons) for the considerable edits domestically. Sailor Moon may have been a monster-of-the-week action/adventure show for younger audiences, but it is not entirely western-friendly what with the direct hints at shoujo-ai, a little bit of fan service, and some relationships and motives that can be questionable (are they potential lovers or just friends?) Mercilessly teasing the viewers with provacative pairings and a vast array of characters does not go unrewarded (Naruto is another good example of that ^^;)

The Cardcaptor Sakura anime has a monster-of-the-week sort of feel as well, with the main character collecting a bunch of cards that pertain to all sorts of different elements and manifest to cause havoc and adventure. But it wasn't just a fantasy/action series.. it also had alot going on in terms of characters- their relationships, their friendships.

The manga has a special emphasis on this, the magical action sequences serving as mere decoration in comparison to the large cast of characters. Well developed characters that come to life and form the foundation of this series with interactions, and emotions that are passionately far from generic.. and the lines drawn between boys and girls and adult and child were sometimes crossed. But in a tasteful and pure manner. That might sound complicated, but once you see for yourself it is quite understandable- just not easy to describe here. Lets just say that I could picture the innuendo (if it even is innuendo..) going well over the heads of many, and deeply offending a chosen few who would interpret it as exploitation. I interpret them as overly passionate relationships and plentiful hints that could easily bend to the perciever's will, yet not be completely absolute. I was never offended, but just slightly creeped out by a handful of relationships (Little Rika and Terada-sensei #_#) But it's kind of hard to feel like something is wrong when everybody is so happy!

Above all, Cardcaptor Sakura is about happiness. The heroine Sakura is instantly lovable and innocent, going through many of the ups and a teensy bit of the downs that childhood has to offer. Even the most feverish high-stakes battle is strangely pleasant and pretty, and you just know everything is going to result in peace.

This aura that covers the whole series could easily be influenced by the artwork. The artwork above all deserves the highest mention, as it is fantastic and lives up to CLAMP's great record of detailed, unique art that is just bursting with personality. The personality conveyed by that of Cardcaptor Sakura is one of beauty and kindness, a lovely atmosphere, and most striking- the earthshattering waves of cuteness. But the art is also very sophisticated, in that it expresses the story and emotions as well as words ever could, and further endear the characters to the reader.

When Sakura isn't embroiled in a fantasy battle, or she and her friends/family aren't hanging out and furthering their characterizations, there are short little mini-stories that take place. I call them side quests. They are in most any anime and manga. While some refer to them as filler, in many cases side quests could serve to tie everything together. In an unrelated but widely-seen example, in Cowboy Bebop, Spike and co. go to alot of different places, do alot of various things, and find themselves embroiled in self-contained little conflicts. But rather than leaving the viewer detached, there actually IS a big picture that strings all of these together. Such is the case with these sequences in the Cardcaptor Sakura manga.

Even if the structure of the story and writing can feel a little convoluted or shallow (which can happen now and then in many Clamp works I've read. ^^;) the art keeps the reader enchanted and attached. This is an easy and enjoyable series to read, that will no doubt satsify fluff-seekers into a worthwhile experience. But after all is said and done, for me there wasn't much to remember but the overwelmingly pleasant mood this series generated. It never goes too far into any direction, possessing a tranquil calm that makes for too few moments that are particularly compelling.

But that was just me, one who goes crazy for thrills. If you have EVER liked anything remotely cute you should definately check this series out. 17,000 fanfics don't lie. This one could potentially be your next fandom.. and who couldn't use another fandom, right? ^__-

Very good manga, really cute designs, and since it's CLAMP its even more.
The customes are all-so cute, and more importantly, there are lots o' them ^^
So everythind is so lively, exactly what I love in CLAMP's works.

And Sakura is so kawaii...hmm, not just kawaii, but LOVELY!
Almost all other characters are special in some ways, I liked Tomoyo-chan too, who is kinda weird! Though I do understand her feelings towards Sakura ^o^

About the story, I liked the friendships, interactions, and Sakura's life-situations, but I think the story about cards in the manga is a little too hastily-made ^^
I mean in the anime most of the cards had its own episodes, while here....some was just caught, we dont know how.
And the beginning is a bit weird, too, how Sakura is already a Card Captor, and only a flashback provides some details about how she got in the whole thing.

But what counts is not the card's story (i think it could be described as side-story!) and exactly that's why I loved it soooo much!

*And one more thing:

THIS ISN'T FOR FUST-KIDS AT ALL, REALLY, i liked it very much.
And everyone open enough can enjoy it!!!

Though I've watched some anime episodes (just by chance since they were broadcast at 7:00 in the morning) I was never in the mood to watch all the episodes of the series. I never liked the pacing of the anime. I found it boring, especially the fillers. The manga of the other hand would require less time and would be more enjoyable.

this manga could be for kids just like the anime if it hadnt some references that seem a little more mature. But thats happening only in 3 % of the whole manga. Not that kids dont talk about such matters even if they dont understand them (I guess).

If I was a kid I'd definitely love this a lot. But for a shoujo manga I prefer Arina Tanemura's work much more.

this manga is very entertaining, i love the way CLAMP draws it's characters, so i like all of them.
When I read CCS I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Syaoran, Sakura and Tomoyo are my fav characters, they all are soooo cute, and they all act differently in different situations.
I thought that Kero-chan was very annoying, everytime i saw his picture i was like: "OMG! Go away Kero!"
The cards are drawn differently depending on the element. So that's cool.
overall, CCS is a manga not to be missed!!!!!

If someone asks me to define sweetness, I'd say CCS. This series is so full of sugar one can't help but feel happy. Cute and innocent are words to describe this enjoyable manga.

The artwork is a lot simpler and cleaner compared to previous CLAMP works, but still detailed and beautiful. The characters are well drawn, but the adults look rather scrawny sometimes.

It's a simple story with a simple concept. CLAMP have outdone themselves when they made this simple story into a wonderful enjoyment for all ages. The start may be a bit slow and slight turn-off, but during the later half of the series, things really get exciting and that's where the magic begins.

Who can NOT love Sakura? Each and every character is so lovable you'll feel a 'Squee~' in your heart everytime you see one of the cute scenes. Well-developed and good expressions/dialogues. However, one starts to think if they're really 5th graders...

One can re-read this series for the story, the characters or simply to admire the visuals. Nonetheless, this is a worthy series to own.

Cardcaptor Sakura was the 3rd manga I ever liked very much. I actually didn't know the romance between Li and Sakura till I started the third series that came out later. Actually I mean the secong series, because the TV series had three. The detail is what I loved most, it had so much beautiful images! Clamp has never let me down with detail. =]
