| One word that would describe this anime in its entirety would be mediocre. This anime is not great, but its not totally hatable either. It certainly has its good moments never really gives us any reason to totally trash it.
The main charm of this anime has to be cast of characters that work fairly well together with a decent voice acting that brings out each character to life. Ren's voice actor is very good throughout the anime, and his personality work very well with the group. My favorite character in the anime was Anna who makes this anime somuch better with her comical as well as her serious side.
Although the characters are good voice acting and good chemistry, they justdon't ge tthe adequate development. Ren's character isthe only character that really gets attention while, even the main character Yoh and Anna gets a bit left behind. I was dying for Yoh and Anna relationship to get a bit more attention as well as Yoh and Manta. Lyzerg is also a decent character that goes through transformation, but there are characters like Faust who totally is irrevant most of the times. Nothing really happens with the character s at all.
Storyline itself is pretty generic, and that's not necessarily bad thing thinking that this is a shounen anime proabbaly meant for kids. But for some older viwers it makes the plot too obvious and predictable to an extent. Some twist involving Hao was certainly nice at times, but it isn't something that is mind blowing. anyone can guess it pretty easily. The predictability of the plotline naturally leads to slow pacing and towardsthe ned it really begins to drag.
Animation is overall a failure. The character designs are so generic. most of them got big heads and exactly same eyes. Background animation isn't anything of delight either. Musicis another downer. I really didn't enjoy any of the OPs or the EDs. music throughout the anime was used so repetitively that it all lost its charm and became annoying.
Overall this animeis just a real mediocre drag. It has its few good moments, but that about all its has. For the fans of shounen action animes I wouldn't recommnd this anime. There are certianly better ones out there you can pick up.

| I've seen shaman king on tv and I think shaman king is one of the best animes that I have seen on tv. But unfortanetly they haven't bought the whole series, so I have never wached the ending of shaman king.
Animation: The animation was good. I have nothing negatives to say about it.
Sound: The sound was as normal. It was like almost every other anime. Only yoh speaks a bit boring.
Story: The story was just great, the fighting was very cool, but the stort wasn't very original and you already know how it is gonna end.
Character: You do not get many information about the background of the characters. You don't now where yoh is come from. you know nothing of his family. Further, are the characters very different an that is a good point.
Value: Shaman king is a great anime, but you won't learn anything about it.
Enjoyment: Shaman King is a great anime and it will always be one of my favourites.

| Probably the worst shounen fight anime I have ever watched. It's very tedious, very boring and the ending is not so good!
The cast of characters is very mediocre, but with one or two exceptions.
I'm not going to say don't watch it, but if you want a great shounen fight anime, you won't find it here!!

| This is one of the series which I threw directly in the trash can right after watching the first episode. But after a while it was shown again, and I decided to give it one more try and it turned out to be pretty nice (the first half)
The first episodes are funny so I was hooked, but when it reached the shaman fight, I kind of lost interest but I still continued til the end. The last half was filled with fighting scenes and the comedy was forgotten and so it got pretty boring. Im not really a fan of tournaments, actually I hate it. But there are exceptions, its ok for me to watch tournaments if its not drawn out. In Shaman King's case, it is quite stretched out as if just to reach 50+ episodes. And there are things which I don't understand, why do they fight to be the Shaman King? What reward will they get? And why does Hao wanted the title too when he's enormously strong that no one can lay a finger on him? Maybe it was explained but my mind was off wondering to somewhere that's why I dont know about it. The thing that made me interested is when I found out about the relation of Yoh to Hao. But I'd rather not say anything about it, also about the ending as not to spoil anything. If I say that the ending is good, then it means that Yoh won and if I say that its disappointing, means Hao won, so i wont say anything.
The animation is not good, one of the worst, that is. All of them have a cartoonish look. Their arms and legs are too thin, not to mention that their height can be compared to a willow, but not all of them as the others are as tall as a post. And look at their hair-dos, as if all of them has just stepped out from a parlor, and whatever happens their hair won't be ruined.
Overall a pretty average anime, not too bad but not too good. Recommended to all who likes fighting.

| Having read many reviews, I realized that most people usually found that a series' manga volumes were better than the series' anime itself. I experimented with this on Shaman King, and I have come to the conclusion that the manga IS better but the anime does not fall very short either.
Both anime and manga contained great essences of humor that can make you giggle or laugh out loud, and most of this stemmed from the characters. Shaman King contains a huge cast of colorful individuals with a variety of pasts all striving for a common goal, and each character has interesting unique abilities and spirits. Properties of the Shaman community (like types of Shaman or how spirits work) was explained very well throughout the entire anime, and the explanations were fortunately never too complicated or long.
The more likeable characters were very friendly and amiable, and Yoh had an interesting personality because all he ever wants is to 'take it easy', a contrast to his significant other, Anna. The differences between characters and their personalities also serve for great humorous effects (e.g. Yoh always gets on Tao Ren's nerves). On a sidenote, character design was great in some areas but mediocre in others. I hope that Tao Ren's weird, huge spike of hair is purely for humorous effects rather than anything else.
I liked the story of Shaman King, because the tale of spirits and their human users was taken quite seriously (at times) and the anime leaves a feeling of lightheartedness and severity at the same time.
I thought that the sound let down the anime a little bit, because the voice-actors for Ryu and HoroHoro were quite unbearably loud (and the abundance of tongue-curling in every sentence was insanely frustrating but also funny). If the anime had better bgm or OP/ED themes then the storyline would have been further enhanced (by more spiritual music, perhaps).

| I expected a lot of things from Shaman King, because the manga author was Oda's assistant at one point, who created the famous and very excellent One Piece manga--who incidentally, was also Watsuki's assistant, who worked on another excellent piece we know as Rurouni Kenshin. I came into Shaman King expecting big things, because another assistant of Oda's created a manga of his own which we know as Groove Adventure Rave (Rave Master in America). Seeing as Shaman King was more popular than Groove Adventure Rave, it would only be logical if Shaman King was better than Rave. That's hardly the case. Shaman King excels in some areas, but is terribly lacking in its weaker ones. If I originally wasn't such a huge shounen fan, I would have most likely quit on it during the middle of it, or perhaps before the last episode.
The concept of a shaman is pretty unique. A person who can see the souls that remain unrested and roam the earth have the opportunity to bind with one, and become a shaman. During battle, they become one, allowing them the ability to possess unique powers and techniques, like unleashing flying hydras, beams, skeletons, etc. The Shaman Fight is an international tournament that invites all shamans to compete against each other until one particular being stands out. The winner will be awarded the Shaman King, who is granted great powers. Yoh competes in this shaman tournament so he can rest easy for the rest of his life. During his adventures, he meets many shamans in which they unite under one banner to overcome evil, all the while, compete for the prize of the Shaman King in order to fulfill their own individual dreams.
Yoh sounds like a pretty unique protagonist so far. I mean, who would've ever thought of becoming so great so you can be lazy for the rest of your life? The problem with Yoh, along with some other characters in the anime, is that he's overly sophisticated. Yoh is way too easy going at times, and will easily forgive anyone after lecturing them. The problem with Yoh is that he's too nice. In some other animes, the main characters start out as nice as he is, or nicer, but they also project that as a flaw. Yoh never really changes, and who would want to read or watch a story where the problems and conflicts are minimal? There are still many conflicts in Shaman King, but it would have helped out tremendously if part of the conflicts rooted with Yoh and a personality trait he couldn't overcome.
His fiancee, Anna, also suffers from over sophistication. She's way too strict, way too calm, and way too expecting all the time! Often times she would expect others to clean up her house and perform her rigorous tasks for her, or she'd get super pissed. She's just way too one dimensional, and never changes at all throughout the show. Ocasionally, she might show SOME signs of worry, but she's still that same selfish girl after she's done worrying. Hao, the main antagonist, also suffers from this same illness. Loves to sadistically laugh and smile, and is arrogant. Doesn't change until the last two episodes, but that doesn't help much. Other than those three, who pretty much hog up most of the screening time, there are a couple characters who are actually likeable and are more down to earth, such Ryu, who is simply looking for a location he can relax, and Chocolove, who wants everyone's attention by cracking pathetic jokes.
Despite some character's with horrible faults, they're still bearable to watch. What isn't really as nice is the filler. Way too much filler, especially in the middle, when the crew find themselves in America finding this unknown village that'll host the second round of the Shaman Tournament. An episode or two of filler would have been fine, but instead, they decided to do several episodes with filler that are way too uncreative and boring. There are some rather exceptional ones out there, but the bad filler episodes far outweigh the good ones. Plus, during the final arc, it seems to go through this rather tedious process of meeting your opponent before the match is even declared, get in some trouble with him, and teach him or her a lesson during the fight. Most of these episodes end with the main opponents whom were defeated, to somehow magically get along with the main group. Plus, the ending is so horrible. Sometimes you question whether or not it was worth going through all of these episodes, only to be disappointed by the atrocious ending.
Luckily for Shaman King, it's a shounen. The main strengths for a traditional fighting shounen is training, fights, and the concepts behind the fights. Unfortunately, aside from some training in the beginning of the anime, there's rarely any training. There's even a part where all of the main characters literally--not even joking--got stronger instantly within the span of a second. The major powerup was justified, but it's not as cool as training. Shaman King has some pretty cool fights with some cool concepts behind them. Too bad most of the fights are dragged down by naive and idiot opponents who need to be given a cliched lecture from any given main character, which takes up most of the fight. None of the fights are of particular high budget value, so the fights themselves aren't really entertaining, and there's no training, so the only thing that Shaman King really has going for it in this area is the concepts. Shaman King does have really cool concepts for a shounen, so that's a plus, but the lack of presence of the other two really hurts in the end. And what hurts even more is that Shaman King loves to pull out the deus ex machina--something pulled out of the manga author's ass so that the main character wins. There's a horrible deus ex machina that was pulled in the final two episodes. Hell, two horrible ones were pulled, and it left an extremely horrible last impressions of the anime.
In the end, Shaman King to me, is a perfect example of a shounen trying too hard. Incidentally, I would also use Rave Master as another example of a shounen trying too hard. Rave Master suffers from trying to be way too badass and cool, while Shaman King suffers from trying to be way too unique and different. The difference between these two? Rave Master in the end, was much better presented. It did start off rather poorly, but it generally got better, while Shaman King had ocassional spurts of goodness and some rather long periods of suckiness. If you're a shounen fan, Shaman King should be in the bottom of your list in your what-should-I-watch-next list. Though if you have nothing else to watch, then heck, just watch this then.

| Just an great 64 episodes.
The beginning is great, the middle is good BUT
the Last 10-15 episode were AMAZING
The animation was done well. The fight seqences were really good and the setting reflect the mood of the situation really well.
As for the sound, the music was great but i gave it a 9 because Yoh's voice seemed a little annoying. I mean, i know girls usually do kids voice but yoh is supposed to be strong so that was problem to me.
The story was just great. The belief of shaman spirts, fighting, and motives were as done really well.
The Characters: 10
I liked the characters a lot. Each bringing their own motive into the shaman fight. They all retained their character throught out the series and added to the fun of the series.
Value 9
Great story. Original flow and amazing character usually deserves a 10, BUT it is just another fighting show. No huge lesson to be learned here
The Enjoyment though is a 10.
It is really fun. Especially end and everything. Was totally addicted to it .
Great show.

| One of the best animes of all time IMHO. Sorry, I just love Shaman King so much. It's too bad it's only 64 episodes long. And it doesn't have as big as a fanbase as Naruto or One Piece. But it deserves one.

| Just as in full metal panic, a mix of action with comedy, works again. This anime, simply is awesome. The animation might be a bit average, but the characte design, story and great music change it all. If you see 5 episodes you won't see the full potential of the anime. The story is a bit lineal, but it has some turns and in works pretty well. The humor is very simple but it's really funny. If you have the oportunity to watch this anime don;t hesitate, but try not to watch the horrible 4kids one because even the intro is horrible and it's worse after hearing the original 2 intros that are awesome.

| Overall I like Shaman King alot it has alot of very inresting side storys regaurding its fasinating characters and I cant think of an Anime with better developed characters .Rest assure when you see all these reviews takling about the characters being well done it's because it's true.My only problem is that so much of Haos past was cut out of even being the Japanese version, and that really got more into why he is the way he is and help's you better understand him.Wich is ashame because Hao is by far the most intriguing of all the characters. The story I felt had greater potential then it would allow in the Anime. But I felt the ending was executed with good taste as diffrent as it was from the Manga it's probably best that it is inconclusive.

| I was very impressed with this Anime's adaption from the Manga. It kept me expecting diffrent thing's.
I do like the Manga better then the Anime but I dont want to sell this show short. This story is very well told through the character's experience's and I found it very enjoyable even at my age (17).
I hate it when this happen's to good show's they end way to soon while show's that are far less deserving go on and on but I supose that is both a blessing and a curse as far as over and under rated Anime's go.I do however think this show was jibbed in the states, this and One Piece both diserved alot more publicity then crap like Megaman. But thats alright I geuss it's better to not bring attention to crappy dubb's anyway.

| Shaman King... don't be thinking you know what's in store for you just because the name sounds peculiar. Actually this anime is quite a treat for those who are looking for a fantasy, action, and comedy anime. Forewarning, DO NOT BASE YOUR JUDEGEMENT JUST BECAUSE YOU SEEN THE AMERICAN DUB!! The American Dubs use voices of social rejects. Also they took out the awesome openning and ending musics which were present in the japanese version. You want good genuine voice acting and great musics watch the japanese version.
The animation is pretty good. Nothing outstanding but nonetheless it is enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen.
Voice acting and musics are great, assuming you watch the Japanese version. You watch the English version you are cheated out of a great series.
Story is pretty original if you think about it. Not many or none of the anime has been based upon shamans and use of ghosts and spirits for combat.
Characters are pretty unique. Each character have somewhat of their own philosophy. Such as Yoh, who believes you should take things easy and just pretty much go with the flow. The serious Ren, who believes power is key but somehow finds comfort in companionship later on. And etc. etc.
I really recommend this anime to anyone. The English version is more for younger audiences and the voice acting sucks!!! So if you'regonna watch, do yourself a favor and get the Japanese version. The Japanese version has awesome openning and endings, and very nice voice acting.

| I know all ten's you think I'm over rating it,right?Truth is I dont think I am. I'm not one to over rate show's but I give credit were credit is due.And this is a great Anime and I've seen alotta Anime to know what I think is good.I think wether you like this show or not really depend's on your interest's ,Like's and Dislikes because it had alot to do with life and death. The only thing I think was off about this show is that it is very deep story line told through the eyes of preteen's,none the less I really do like this show.
THING"S TO KNOW ABOUT THE SHOW
----------------------------------------
1.The ending is inconclusive in the Anime but read the Manga ending it's better anyway.
2.DO NOT rate this if you have only watched what 4kids production's has aired as you have seen PURE crap.
3.If you are closed minded about religion or ledgend of Mythology.Dont bother because you will just get lost and or upset in the story.
4.If you appreciate a blend of fact history with a imagined fantasy you will love this show.
5.If you are willing to let age group's of character's decide wether the show is worth liking or not you probably will not want to say you like this show.Even though you probably would if it had older main character's
6.If you like fight's with more purpose then beating the crap out of eachother,You'll enjoy it.

| Shaman King is a standard affair about a boy trying to become something, in this case, the 'Shaman King'. For a large number of episodes, it has enough to acheive that goal but does the anime actually have enough promise to it?
First off, Shaman King doesn't try to become anything 'different', the anime just shouts nothing special about it. Most things that are presented here have been shown on other animes, the idea of having 'avatars' to help you in battle are not special, and idea of unique powers is not special. However, that doesn't make it bad at all, there's enough variety in the characters, powers and side-stories to sustain enjoyment from this, though the premise of the idea isn't amazing.
As said, Shamn King does entertain, the fights are generally more about power-based than strategic-based, with nice little ideas here and there. Though, i question the relevenace of certain fights as well as characters, some fights can be said to pointless, as to certain characters which have provided practically nothing to the plot.
The plot is simple and started well enough, but during the middle, the story goes nowhere.. fast! The pacing of the show is muddled, it diverts itself regularly and though some of the more intense episodes are well-accepted by me, it also fails in other parts.
One more comment needs to be made to Hao, the villain of the show, he oozes with badass and is a great villain with how he deals with his minions and other shamans alike. Very badass i have to say so myself.
Overall: Though Shaman King may not be to everyone's taste with its lacklustre plot and hard-to-swallow characters, Shaman King has fun in it, its lighthearted to an extent and has its enjoyable moments. With a kickass badguy to boot, i would recommend seeing this forawhile

| This is one of my favorite anime's of all time some people say it's over rated, how ever i think this is a very under rated show. The story is very original even though the paticular meaning of a shaman is a little off from the acurate meaning ,i still love this show. And people who do'nt probably are not interested in what the represents wich is spiritual beleive and thats not show creator's fault.

| Shaman King is an anime with a plethora of interesting characters as Asakura Yoh fights to become the Shaman King. Although they all have very static personalities, the situtations and plot elements that these characters encounter seem to make up for it.
With that said, this anime isn't very serious and I would say aim towards the 13-16 yr old age range. This is due to the shallow depth of everything. Character development only occurs through fights and as you can see, the limitations of such a thing. Asakura Yoh is the usual passive silent hero who doesn't say much and keeps his thoughts to himself.
This anime follows the usual cycle of fight, plot development, fight, filler filler filler, fight, filler, fight filler fight until the end. Therefore we must take a look at the animation: and how they portray this anime:
They use nice colors and costume design, but the actions and movements are really basic and don't catch that much eye candy. The characters are pretty cute and it is hard to take them seriously. There are also plenty of "fighting fillers" that don't really seem to do anything for the anime but take up time which leads to lack of energy and passion due to it being kind of trite.
Therefore due to the balance of both good and bad points, I would recommend watching this if you want to watch some mindless fighting with the basic ideals of friendships. Watch this if you don't mind the slow pacing of this anime. Although I enjoyed the second preliminary round because it is more directed and plot driven with lots of interesting twists.
I wouldn't recommend this for those who want something out of their anime. Good for a short break, but I find this anime just too slow at the beginning that it'll be a huge turn off. (After around episode 20 it picks up a lot more.) However, the last few fights just draw out too much. They're non-stop fights, just fight fight fight (the same thing too, no new moves)

| The animation is pretty good, it is really cute how the characters are drawn. Of course, the ones that are not supposed to be cute are draw really well too. The sound is pretty good. There are no annoying character's voices. Also the opening and closing songs are pretty good too.
The story is about "the Great Spirit", looking for a Shaman King. However, Hao wants to create a world with only Shamans and to do that he needs the power of the Great Spirit. This is where the fight for the Shaman King starts. Also i have to let everyone know in ADVANCE IS THAT THERE IS NO REALLY ENDING TO THE SERIES!!! SO FOR PEOPLE WHO NEEDS TO HAVE AN ENDING, DON'T WATCH IT BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT. Other than that is pretty much about all the people that Yoh, Ren, and everyone else are Shamans fighting to be come the Shaman King.
The characters are really alright, you can tell the difference between main character and the backup characters. However, I don't really like Anna's personality or Yoh's personality that is soooo weak when it comes to Anna.
Overall, I enjoyed the anime a lot because it was funny and have lots of fighting scenes. However, The value is a little low because of the no ending part, which sucks

| I am not too sure about this anime. First off, the music was awesome, especially the second ending and the second opening. But the story is lacking. The fighting scenes never show you the attacks, it's a flash and suddeny someone is dead or blocked. A lot of characters are good but a lot are also very crappy fillers and worse of all the end of the series was just lame. On the other hand the anime is better than a lot of other anime I have seen. At least it captured some of my interest.

| A great show, the idea is original and though they got most of the concept of Shamans is wrong, they did change it to make a damn good show! The music is ok and some songs are very good. The characters are all very cool and well animate and drawn. Its an enjoyable show thats easy to watch and enjoy.
