| Shin Vampire Miyu was one of the mangas that caught my interest, especially after I had seen the TV series and the OVA.
What makes the series a must-read is the design. I am a fan of CLAMP's mangas too, but after reading this title I have to admit that this design is out of the ordinary.
It resembles an episode of the TV series where Western Shinma appear in Japanese shores and try to win back Larva. I had read only 2 volumes of the first Miyu series so I didnt know about the characters who appeared here. Here in the manga more info about Larva's past is revealed and also there's a crossover with Vampire Yui manga, since Yui appears and has a main role here. Also Raka appears and some other characters I didnt know.
The story is simple. Western Shinmas want to seek revenge for what Miyu's grandfather had done many years ago, sealing their queen and they also decide to win Larva back. So basically we have mainly short fights between Western and Eastern Shinmas and at some point the Western ones succeed in their aim. The final battle is predictable and the ending is open ended. Regarding the battles and story, Sailor Moon did better than this.
But this manga has the edge over anything shoujoish out there, regarding the design. If it is considered a shoujo manga and regarding the large-eyes/short noses design this is the best I've read. It isnt very complex. Lines are few but the motion and the characters expressions in every page make this manga a work of art.
Dialog is sparse and simple, nothing worth. Miyu is like the Miyu of the OVA, making fun of her opponents and being always cheerfull even in the most critical moments. Raka is just like her anime counterpart. Larva is the best character here, much better developed than the TV series and some of the Western Shinma are memorable too. The rest of the characters didnt impress me at all.
Now if you liked the TV series and OVA and didnt have the chance to get the mangas, they're a must read. Either Vampire Miyu, Shin Vampire Miyu or Vampire Yui.
Also if you like vampire titles but not the very violent ones, like Hellsing and Blood the Last Vampire, this title is a worthy addition to your manga list. It is a work of art.

| This has a good storyline for anybody who likes vampyre fiction. The comic was drawn very well. The characters didn't stray from the story or say anything that didn't fit in with the context of the plot.
