I've read the manga quite a few years ago and must say this is the one that probably started the detective craze, probably along with conan. However, the setting and mysteries are in my opinion a level higer than conan and if it weren't then I guess it wouldn't have run to a hundred episodes. I'm basing this on about 40 or so case files I seen and since each is about 3 episodes long, I guess I seen pretty much of it.

It's surprising to me that this anime doesn't have a bigger following. It's quite good. Our main character Kindaichi is a genius. He unravels murder mysteries by piecing together the evidence like a jigsaw puzzle while the police are bumbling around. This series will really hook you in if you give it a chance. It's really fun to try and unravel the mystery yourself before Kindaichi gives it away. It's a series that actually makes you think!

Here's hoping for a DVD release of this series State side.

I really enjoyed Kindaichi...I actually thought it is better than Conan, though I like them both.

Kindaichi, an ecchi but very smart kid, solves mysteries and murders with the help of his classmate and a detective. Each case that he comes into contact with is very intriguing and often leaves us guessing. There are often many suspects in a case, and most of them involved murder under very suspicious and highly dramatic circumstances. Often the murder is committed in an enclosed setting from which nobody can escape from - island retreat, country manor, etc. The anime likes doing the cliffhanger thing for most of the episodes which I thought was a great way to heighten our interest and make us want to continue watching this great series.

Downside is that nobody has seriously pick this great series up for fansubbing. Maybe the first four eps had been done, but Kindaichi has many seasons - therefore many episodes and cases for us all to explore. I can guarantee that this will be a hit.
