Although Hayao Miyazaki tends to be modest about his skills as a manga-ka, Nausicaa is easily one of the greatest manga ever. The story and characters were absolutely amazing. Miyazaki-san really knows how to tell a story!

I will say it: I hate manga, straight up. However, Nausicaa would have to be the exception: the light.

I first started by watching the movie (Vol1+2). Then, when I found the manga online, I decided to get it and read it. The story was simply amazing. This "amazing" can be defined as skipping biology test review in order to read Nausicaa (heh, I probably failed my bio test, but we'll see in a few days).

The story was confusing in some parts; at least, I didn't understand them. Maybe it was because I was rushing so I could study bio Lol.

But in the end, I would strongly recommend this manga. And for those who have not seen the movie yet, I will say now: Don't. Read the manga because the movie horrendously changed some parts of the manga.

Miazaki's masterpiece. This it one of the most remarkable stories that has ever existed. Viz is re-releasing it in a larger format (plus in the original right-left format), so now is the perfect time to see what youve been missing.

Let's just get the obvious out of the way: Hayao Miyazaki is a genius. The worlds he creates are always incredibly deep and rich and filled with interesting and thoughtful characters. Nausicaä is, in my opinion, his best work. That's right, the master of anime's best work is a manga.

Everything about this manga is perfect. The main character, Nausicaä, is compassionate, thoughtful, brave, resourceful... everything a good protagonist has to bear. She is obviously the focus of the story and it's wondeful to see how she changes from a quietly charming yet strong rural princess to a fierce warrior and a resolute and determined human being.

All the characters in the story are unique and the plots and subplots they are involved in are completely engrossing. The characters are really secondary to Nausicaä herself (at least storywise), but without them this world would be nothing.

The design of Nausicaä's world is absolutely (say it with me) perfect. From the smallest plant to the largest insect, the world is completely believable and incredibly charming, as is Miyazaki's trademark.

To me, this manga represents the pinnacle of the medium, I can't possibly imagine a better manga. 10/10 in every respect.

Ah, my all time favorite story...
For years I have worshipped the anime.
And when I finaly got my hands on the manga, it was magic, it was everything I thought it could be.

Miyazaki has a talent for makeing his images come alive, I can really feel the power of the god soldier and the speed of the gunship as it swosshes by... (though I suspect haveing seen the anime helps a bit).

The story is touching and thougtfull, and as important as ever. you could say its immortal. Its very much a serious tale so dont expect much of the lighthearted humourous childishness some people expect from manga.

And the characters are stuck in my heart for ever, especially our heroine, Nausicaä. she is a saint and a mere human at the same time. And makes it believable.

although it differs on some points I recomend seeing the anime first, the uncut original or none at all though!
Avoid the warriors of the wind, althoug the swedish dub is a treasure for me ^_^.

I couldnt put this work away untill I had read it from beginning to end, you say its long? no, no, its to short, thats what it is :-)

"Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind" was the most beautiful Nausicaa this weary Ulysses of a mangaka would ever come across...
One of the most marvelous of manga authors and anime directors at the same time, Miyazaki has made an impact on every single person I know with this work of his... A friend of mine commented the magnificent assault launched by Kushana, another how really dramatic the storyline was... To be honest with you, I can only find one thing that truly captivated me with this manga: the manga itself!
With majestic images complementing an epic storyline with dramatic characters and plot twists along with an ecological conscience that really makes you feel bad about that bug you inadvertendly stepped on the day before, with heroes that fence and fight in the style Miyazaki has made so characteristic of his, not just thrush around, and with you always asking yourself: "What next?", I can only say this manga was the best I've ever read till this day!

Absolutely marvellous masterpiece. The story felt like dragging at times, but that's just personal preference. Recommended reading to absolutely anyone interested in comics, especially manga. Miyazaki keeps commenting on the volumes how he is so bad at doing manga and is afraid how everyone will take his work. That's the worst case of excess modesty I've ever seen. The man's a genius.

Hayao Miyazaki is a master of his craft, in the same league as the Old Masters in terms of the beauty he can create. Stories that are universal, but can be so personal an experience that you think he could only be writing to you. Heart tugging, emotionally gripping, and wonderful would be how I describe this epic. You are made to feel the pain of the ohmu, and will learn much of yourself throughout reading these graphic novels. Not a light read, this story requires some time to interpret, and to deal with awe inspired by successful grasp of the message.

This manga is the crowning achievement of Miyazaki's work. It is, beyond a doubt, the most important work in manga. Forget Akira, Nausicaä obliterates all fantasy/sci-fi works. It even rivals Tolkien's Lord of The Rings trilogy.

Another of Miyazaki's masterpice! The story of Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind is so extremly wellwritten, with very important messages, that really make you think. The design and art is great, with every picture being a masterpiece of it's own.. If you haven't read Nausicaä, please do, now!

Really, I found myself, rather than determining how good it is, rather, trying to find flaws that I could possibly dock marks for and I didn't find any. The artworks was excellent, with very unique design and one doesn't feel cheated at all in terms of facial expression. The main characters are well developed. The strongest point however, is the story and all the things that the story tells you honestly from Miyazaki's heart for the years and years he spent on this manga. If there is any perfect manga in the world, I'd nominate this one immediately. It's good enough to be a benchmark, against which all other manga can be judged.
