| *Based on a "Greatest Astro Adventures DVD" which i believe contains 7 episodes.
Be warned:this is a kids' show, a children's show.
The stories here are very simple, and the only reason I got this series was because it's THE classic anime to check out, even for its age (it also helps to have a weak spot for classics, like I do).
However, Im not going to keep this dvd, Im giving it to my 3 year old cousin.Maximum viewing age (at least intended-i suppose) would be 10.
This series is probably referred to in Japan as 'Atom Boy'.

| I had confused this title initially with another Tezuka classic that I watched during my childhood called Jetter Mars.
But despite that and having watched some episodes of Jetter Mars recently I decided to give this a look. This is intended for children or for those who have a fondness for American cartoons where repetitiveness is common, though this does not mean that some of the cartoons are not great.
When I saw the series would not lead anywhere and would include the same and the same messages and plot I decided to stop.
Note also that I watched the 80's remake in English and not the original 60s anime. The 60's title is now available on DVD with Japanese audio and it would probably boost a little the viewing experience.
The English dub was mediocre. A pity since another Tezuka movie called Unico had superb English voice actors for a childrens movie. But here, with the exception of Astro, all the other characters take a lot of points from the series.
Now animation for an 80s kids show is decent, though at that time many cartoons (american, european, asian) had much better animation to offer.
The music intro and theme was OK and touching some times. The series carries the spirit of O.Tezuka well but I heard the manga is a little darker, so it would be better to turn to that instead.
I dont know if the 60's was better but I didnt like Kimba the White Lion that much either even at the time I was a child.
I watched Astro Boy just out of interest. Its only for those who want to track their childhood cartoons. It hasnt something more to keep those like me who missed the title in their childhood interested.
I'll stick with Jetter Mars. It is more dark and the character design of the main hereo was better. It hadnt so many mediocre episodes either.

| The second anime tv series ever ("Manga Calendar" came out in Japan three months before Astro Boy did in Japan) stands as a testament to one of Tezuka-san's greatest manga ever. At least, his most famous.
