| Yami no Matsuei is a horror/yaoi and it also tries to be a comedy, but it fails at that. Yami no Matsuei starts off with a good start, but then it falls off a cliff and gets horrible by each episode.
The animatons are mediocre for this anime. Backgrounds are dark, but sometimes the background or the character designs gets a little messed up or everything gets all blotchy and ugly.
The OP was ugh. The singer sounded really horrible and felt like he didn't even try to make the OP sound good. The background music is repeptive and boring and there's barely and sound effects. The only reason I'm giving this a four is because the voice actors were pretty good, but that's all I can say about the sound for this anime.
The story starts off really well, but then it gets horrible. Everything becomes hard to understand and make no sense at all. Then the story tries to put boyxboy love in the story. (I don't mind this, but these scenes were just really boring and made me want to fall asleep or do something else) The story is quite slow and tends to be confusing, because it feels like the anime didn't explain things well or that it was just skipped. The bad guy is the same in the anime, so why do the main characters forget so easily. Like the evil villain gets away in one of the episodes and then he comes back later and talks to the main character like nothings happened. I'm going like "What are you doing, stop talking to him and just arrest him?"
The characters were ok, nothing special. I didn't like the characters that much. I liked them at the beginning of the anime and I didn't like them at the end of the anime. It felt like I started disliking them more and more as the anime goes on. The character's barely develop at all. The charaters are really drawn really well, but their personalities don't seem to fit with their characters. Like some characters are supposed to be mean, but they try to be nice and that really doesn't fit in with the anime.
Watch this if you are a big fan of yaoi animes. I have seen some other yaoi animes and they are a lot better then this one. You can try Gravitation, because that anime is pretty good.

| I expected a lot more from this series knowing that it was made by one of the creators of X tv and Tokio Babylon but it was a sad tratment for me on many sides. The anime's storyline is rather weak and its more non-straight oriented because most of the women in the story die and on almost every eps there's some scene about male to male affection wich I found to be rather disliking. But anyway putting that aside I'll give you a good review on this one:
ANIMATION: They did an awesome job with the animation. Its very clear and refreching from your normal anime style of animation. However the scenes that were hi speed were really out of pace and some parts of the series were compressed to fit the timeline wich made it somewhat acuard and not a good job from its creators.
SOUND: Superb! I love all the music that this series has. From the beggining to end its truely enjoyable and makes the series a lot more appealing.
STORY: Not the best story you'd find in an anime. The story itself is concentraited on Muraki making a lot of crimes to get Tsusuki's attention and during this story Muraki shows some sick affection he has for Tsusuki and hes partner from there past and present. Not exacly an enjoyable thing to watch nor it didn't really have a complex and profound turn of events as it was needed. ost of the things that happend in the series were very predictable wich hurt the series a lot.
CHARACTERS: All of the characters were interesting and Tsusuki is very fun at times, but I didn't like all of the affection they had almost of of the time. I'm simply not into non-straight anime and it really hurt my point of view od the characters.
VALUE: Not much value here. I wouldn't want to watch this anime ever again really. Maybe if your into this kind of stuff you'd want to but if your not don't even try.
In conclusion, this anime doesen't even come close to X tv or Tokio Babylon in many ways wich its a real shame cause this anime had soooo much potential.

| Not sure what to expect when I first starting watching Yami no Matsuei, I guess it worked to my advantage. I guess Yami no Matsuei wasn't the best when it came to morality and themes, but it sure gave me a hella-fun time watching it. Yaoi at some points, throughout the whole anime there was never a point when I was ridiculously bored. Each story has it's own very interesting mystery, and i especially liked the last one.
And the music was superb at some points- matching the mood completely.
I recommend Yami no Matsuei to anyone. Honestly.

| There is admittedly more than just a hint of shounen-ai in this, but there is so much more to this anime than that!
It would be a shame to miss out on the supernatural and more gruesome horror elements of this storyline and if you want a more intense take on Shinigami, or just fancy watching something filled with eye-candy, then I can't recommend this enough ^__^

| Okay, so the music and the animation were o.k; but this was a fantastic series. Preferably though, the manga was better storyline/art wise.
If you're the type that's into horror or mysteries (and maybe some hints of shounen-ai), you'll love Yami No Matsuei.
They didn't show all the twelve shikigamis Tsuzuki has, but the pheonix is cool no matter how many times I see it.
Generally the mystery files and cases are very sad, always at least one death.
The characters were very well laid out in terms of personality and history. I give this series a big thumbs-up!

| Truthfully, my problem with this show was that it was too short and the ending lacked the punch to finish right However, I won't complain. Usually anime series’ adapted from manga have these sorts of endings which yell, "Want to know what happens next? Then get the frickin Manga!”.
Short-cut Review:
The Animation was great. The Japanese Voice actors did an amazing job. I mean come on! We have Shinichiro Miki, Asano Mayumi, Seki Toshiyuki, Kazuhiko Inoue etc. The music was decent. Finally, the story does get twisted but the bit of humor it has evens out the tension.
*Warning* This anime contains shounen-ai (boy x boy love). So, if you get REALLY offended when men touch or at times grope each other then don't touch this anime. But regardless I ask you to be open minded if you would like to see a good story unravel.
Okay now go watch it, Onegai! ^_^

| I really liked this anime. The humour in the show was awsome, and the moments Hisoka and Tszuki had were sweet, although I don't think there actually that big of a couple, a few hugs a few blushes and a non-clear confession from Hisoka at the end. By saying non-clear I mean that I wasn't really sure if it was a "I love you" saying or a "Your my best friend and I care about you a lot" saying.
The ending wasn't really that good. It just didn't seam like an ending. Dr. Maraki*sp still wasn't dead, and by him not being dead you know more things are going to happen. I dont think 13 episodes was anough for the show. I wanted him to die, he was evil and mean to Hisoka, and also Tzsuki.
Each charecters hair style seamed new to me, I like that, except the creator did use Hisoka's hair style twice (for the Devil's Trill case: Hikiri Manase*sp). I still loved it.
The story was sweet, funny, and really creative with the cases. I think it was great.

| Okay, I can't be objective with this one. I like shounen-ai, I like angsty past thingy and homoerotic innuendo all over the place. But the truth is, it isn't important in this series, it can only revolt people who dislike shounen-ai (which is okay anyway), but in my opinion it is just a beautiful story about love and friendship. Probably I'd be able to find various disadvantages but in fact, I don't even want to. Because the strongest point of YnM is the way it makes you care about the characters. You may hate or love them, but you don't stay indifferent. Personally, I found myself totally engulfed by the drama and very moved.
The animation is alright, the music as well (But I think that the vocal in the opening song is horrible.. I couldn't accept it for a long, long time), I also find the plot interesting.
So just give it a try...

| Hmmm, this was a pretty good anime for what it's worth. It did have the weird buddy-buddy thing going on but nothing overly homosexual besides good old Muraki. There's nothing wrong with all that, it's just a different type of anime I suppose.
I liked the storyline somewhat and thought the pasts of different characters were pretty interesting. It kind of was pushing the 'I'm such an intense anime' feeling and didn't seem natural sometimes. Still, it was worth a watch.

| I love this anime. It's dark without being horrifying, comedic without losing the drama, and overall a pretty good manga-to-anime adaptation, I really enjoyed this viewing, and the fact that it was short definitely played a factor.
First, the animation for the anime is quite good, very lush. The intense contrasts of darks and lights really accent the mood, and the softness and shadowing temper the intensity of the darkness. The characters are ALL beautifully drawn and almost all the characters look quite gorgeous, thus making many of the males quite effeminate looking.
The music varies in this anime. The opening song is absolutely excellent; it's dark and intense but not too overwhelming. The end song was a high disappointment in comparison. It wasn't necessarily bad, just didn't jive with the show or went with the opening song. I think the main problem was the singer, whose voice was flat, raspy, and just not enjoyable. The background music was very tightly bounded with the show and really served to heighten mood without standing out. However, when I was writing this review, I took a second listen to the background music and didn't pay attention to the show itself. The music is quite good, not terribly memorable on its own but very good.
Per the story and characters themselves, this is a definitely an acquired-taste anime, though the reviews show that a good deal of people have acquired a taste for it. It isn't as laid-back as To Heart, but the idea is somewhat similar - the anime is "life driven," meaning that the plot and characters are not as important. You're following a few select characters around, slowly learning about their past, their personalities, their motives, their lives. The focus of the anime seems to on the characters and how their current lives are being affected by their pasts. I really, really enjoyed that. It's an interesting way to tell a story.
The one thing that joins all the arcs together is Muraki, the villain of this story. However, I find myself empathizing with him, despite the fact that he kills numerous people throughout the course of this short anime. Muraki's motives are both vague and concrete, just like the sordid pasts of the characters, all of whom are mysterious and none of whom's story gets perfectly clarified in the end.
Overall, I'd say this was something that I truly enjoyed watching. The very overt shounen-ai aspects made me a touch uncomfortable at times since I wasn't expecting it - I expected hints, not a hammer over the head. If you're uncomfortable with shounen-ai, this isn't the anime for you. If you don't mind it, though, there's a lot to like in this compact anime.

| Almost everything about yami no matsuei is very good. I like the plot, the characters, the animation, the sound(dub isnt very good though). But it freaked me out in a alot of ways. Defientley the doctor and his obsession with the main charcter. Even the characters that arent gay act very gay quite a bit. Thats my only complaint because I like dark anime this and that didnt stop me from watching although it would been better without those moments. It 13eps with 4 story arcs and they are all very well done. The animation is very good and so is the music and the sub. The dub is okay but the sub is better. I would reccomend this to anyone unless they hate dark anime or are homophobic.

| Yami no Matsuei is good. Honestly. It mixes X Files type of mystery solving with a strong emotional storyline. Not to mention it's one of the best shônen-ai/BL anime titles out there that don't include any actual shônen-ai/BL.
I think it deserves a 9, and it could have been a 10 if the anime wasn't so short.

| Yami no Matsuei takes you on a gorgeously gothic adventure between the spirit and mortal worlds providing humor, mystery and intense emotions along the way. Each character drawn with beautifully, refined detail, movements were fluid and sensual befitting their lithe silhouette. Although the overall storyline is non-linear, it was easy to follow, since the show was sectioned off into 'cases' that they had to solve. Brilliant. The only flaw worth mentioning is that Hisoka's personal story seems open-ended, and this character's [perhaps unintentional?] transition from main to supporting line seemed abrupt....one gets the feeling more was to be expected there. The music further added to the gothic feel of the series without over powering it, however the opening theme does take getting used to, at first it sounds like a cat trying to speak, but by the 3rd ep. it contributes to the whole vision. I thoroughly enjoyed this series, it is certainly recommendable and I myself would gladly watch it again on a long rainy weekend.

| Favorite. Anime. Ever.
Definitely worth watching, especially if you are into mystic stuff and if shounen-ai hints don't offend you. The plot is intriguing, the characters are just beautiful and the whole series just make you want more. OST is one of the best I've ever heard (except for the ending theme, which I just don't get).
The story is devided into 4 arcs and gets more and more dramatic from the first one to the last. The final episode's culmination point almost made me cry, though I'm not into sap at all.
Still, I would recommend to watch this series as an addition to the manga, for a lot of story twists are revealed in the manga, characters personalities are explored deeper, there are a lot of interesting story arcs not included into the series, and the manga is even funnier then the anime... further still, the boys in the manga are prettier :P

Gracias a dios los humanos estamos protegidos por los shinigami, los temibles dioses de la muerte que en un dia fueron humanos pero que despues de su muerte se convirtuieron en implacables guardianes.
Lo cual no quita para sospechar que para ser shinigamoi 1-Tengas que ser homosexual. 2-Estar muy bueno. 3-Tarde mucho en decubrir que sentido tenia un pollo parlante dentro de la serie pero al final de los descubri. El pollo tiene que estar escocido para que los personajes tengan tanta pluma xd:)
Al margen de la guasa la serie cuenta con 4 historias diferentes donde se van conociendo detalles sobre los personajes principales. La serie mezcla bien momentos emotivos, accion y drama al margen de que alguna de las historias resulte de mucha peor calidad que las otras-la 4-.
Es una buena serie que quizas haya ganado fama tambien por ser un poco mucho gay pero si siendo gay puedo invocar a shiva o lanzar un thunderbolt bienvenido sea.

| A moving touch of heart, Yami no matsuei has all kinds of elements within itself. A little bit of shounen-ai for those who sees that as a treat (mostly in the viewers imagination though, as not much is explicitly drawn upon). Great music scores and uniquely characterised characters in sync with the story makes this anime have a great flow. Some might think the story a tad boring perhaps, especially if having seen similar animes before, but the story and anime evolves as it unfurls itself.

| My first yaoi anime and to tell the truth, the doctor kinda freaked me out with his passion towards the main character. Animation is good but sometimes I still think they could have made the action scenes a lot better. The background music wasn't very good, I can hardly remember anything about it except the theme song which was a lot better. Ending theme sucked.
Characters weren't very outstanding, excluding the doctor which is really gruesome. Maybe they didn't have enough episodes to elaborate more on the characters, adding to that, all the female characters were killed off which was a great disappointment. This story is actually rather promising, not done properly thats all.
Its an ok anime, not quite meeting my expectations though.

| The very first Shonen-Ai show I've ever seen.. I gotta say, It took me some time to get used to all the boys on boys action, and I'm still not quite used to it.
Yami No Matsuei revolves around the Shinigami, who are the gods of death. Their job is to guide the souls of the diceased to the next world. We follow Asato Tsuzuki, the best Shinigami of the Summoning Division. The story is divided in different story arcs, in which the characters slowly develope.
The Animation in Yami No Matsuei is good, there aren't many flaws and everything moves fluid too.
Music was also good. It reflected the mood of the scene very well. The OP was nice too, but the ED I found less..
I guess the story is somewhat vague. In the end there are still many unanswered questions. It gets very dramatic from time to time, and there are several love interests too.
The characters didn't stand out, but were still pretty good. I didn't quite get the motif Muraki had for being the bad guy, or being so fond os Tsuziki.. ^^'
The Value and enjoyment drop in score because of the fact that Shonen-Ai isn't something I would enjoy watching again..
For me, this Anime was pretty good to watch once, but I would not watch it again.

| YnM contains one of the nastiest characters of all time: the evil uncle doctor Muraki. His mere presence was enough to give me the creeps.
YnM has good animation but that's about all it has. The story is pretty wild, especially the last arch has some incredible stuff happening that has nothing to do with logic. For such a short series, the stories are too streched out. I simply got bored of the setup in one episode when they lasted for three. As a bonus the ship episode really reminded me of some perverse version of Detective Conan.
Characters are somewhat good. They come with their pasts as heavy burdens. Again the shorth length of the series becomes a handicap. I really would have liked to know a little more of Tsuzuki's past. Hisoka well defined but annoying with his angry teen act. Muraki was a mystery. Something was revealed but how the heck he became a vampire or whatever he was?
But none of this matters if you like pretty boy-on-boy action. There's plenty of that. Sometimes I wondered if Tsuzuki really wanted Muraki to punish him as he always tried to attack him with bare hands and ended up in some submissive position. What about Suzaku? Actually they just killed almost every cute girl there was. That's not fair. I prefer women. Alive.
YnM succeeds and fails with shounen-ai. It always present in one form or another and one's relation to it defines how you like the series. For me it's a no go. Without it I might have given the series a grade of something around 7, now YnM gets a couple minus points.

| Overall...I thought the storyline was pretty dumb. At first it was pretty good, but then they tried to rush everything, and it became one of those anime series that could've been great. I didn't really catch the true storyline other then they were shinigami's and their job was to protect the living from crimes that were beyond human intelligence. Where did this weird Muraki character come from? All the characters have some mysterious background that never becomes revealed, so throughout the whole series you're sitting there...wondering what the hell they're talking about. Other than the sucky storyline, there were parts that were very enjoyable..a lot of comic relief. Other than that...poorly made anime series indeed...
