| Excellent anime. The main downside is that there are no enlgish subs for episodes 58-124 nor the movie. So I watched episodes 1-57 and the TV special that is the final ending. This is a very refreshing show to watch. The most important thing about a sports anime is having an interesting and enjoyable protagonist. Without that, the show does not work. Yawara is one of my favorite characters even though she seems to always get manipulated. This is a definite watch, but be weary that it may be awhile before it is completely subbed. It was licensed and S1 was released but there is no word on S2.

| This show isnt the best show in the world but I did enjoy parts of it. If it werent for some extremely annoying characters I might have rated it higher. First of all, Yawara's grandfather has to be the worst character ever invented. Everything he does is extremely irritating. From his badgering of Yawara to his annoying eating habits and indiosynchrasies. Lets also not forget the red headed kid and the large Canadian judo wrestler. The actual judo matches aren't that exciting either. The only aspects of the story I truly enjoyed was the love triangle or quadrangle.

| I've only seen the first 40 episodes or so--but I have to say that this is one of the most fun series I've seen. The mixture of standard sports-anime cliches with romantic comedy and the twist of Yawara's character is just too fun. Although the series has a lower animation quality than many are used to these days, it's well worth the time to watch it.

| I've never had a problem watching old anime series; imo they contain many aspects which sometimes are lacking in todays standards by far. Animation and sound keep good quality despoite being óver ten years old.
I've always liked spors anime; they often follow the same formula, yet I still can't help enjoy them all the same. This one is original compared to it's opposites in it's entire format, from the reluctancy of the main character to her already established skill in the sport in question (contrary to many others where the main character climbs from the bottom up)
However, the amount of people around her does nothing more than irritate me beyond all reasonable limits. Everyone wants her to follow their own twisted ideals; even the school pressures her to fulfill their own ambitions. The old grandpa deserves to be smashed repeatedly in the face with a blunt object, and everyone else at least deserves a shot in the knee. I wish Yawara was more straightforward and not so easily lured into others ambitions.
Still, so far it's a good show to watch.

| The animation style really shows its age. The design looks similar to city hunter. The story is okie. (only watched 12 episodes because it's hard to get from the irc and bittorrent.) A girl's determination to be feminine and lives a normal teenage life. She tries to swear off judo but she has great talent in judo and her grandpa is a world judo master (or something). He pulls out all tricks in the hat to get her present the japan in the olympics.

| Extremely scary (as in causes grown men to soil themselves and yell "Mommy! Mommy!" scary). Lots of violence, esp. toward women and children. Forced child labor and child abuse. Nowhere near as cute or feminine as most modern anime. Many people dislike it for these reasons, but if you can deal with these things and watch it nonetheless, you'll agree this is a great anime about an extraordinary girl trying to live an ordinary life; despite the many manipulators and sycophants around her.

| Frankly, Yawara is not the best anime out there, but it's not as bad as some of the reviews have been saying. Granted, the first 2 episodes were a little boring, but I highly reccomend for those of you who stopped there to continue. The characters begin to develop a little more, and the animation is OK considering that Yawara was created more then ten years ago

| The animation isn't so bad considering how old this series is. The sound is sorta cheesy, but heck, it's all good since it blends well with the animation. Although the main character is annoying at first, she becomes interesting as the story develops. A 10 for enjoyment, although it's a little slow in the beginning. ~light-hearted anime

| This is truly bad!
The series has no plot at all! You always see characters crying: Yawara do your best, Yawara don't quit judo, Yawara this, Yawara that... Then, Yawara comes and beats her rival in a split of second. And so on and on for 124 eps.
It's the first time I watch a series with such a bad plot, really. And I hate those character designs!
I don't like single-theme sport animes, but this maybe one of the worst. Moreover, Judo is sooo fun to watch...

| This is an excellent example of why noone should give up on an anime fast. Sure at first you look at it, the animation is old, the girls wear very long school uniforms (bad for the guys out there ;p), but give it a try. It is very funny! A girl who doesn't care too much about judo but just happens to be the best at it... I can't hardly wait until Barcelona to see what she can do!!

| This anime was almost unbearable to watch at first because it was slow on the story line, plus the animation is a bit outdated. But i kept watching because why did they make so many. After forcing myself watch up to 7 episodes, this is actually a very enjoyable series. So don't give up on this series to quickly or you'll be missing out on a great anime. ^_^

| Yawara!, the anime that no one in the West knows about, but should. So let me try to understand this. Yawara! has over 124 episodes, was animated by Madhouse Productions, has over 40 episodes fansubbed, has an animated and live-action movie and was even more popular than Ranma 1/2 when it aired in Japan('89 to '92). And yet, still no one knows about this anime?! A great injustice, indeed.
