| (Konichiwa fansubs. Good translation and encoding, obviously from a digitally remastered version).
An uexpectedly good movie based on Greek mythology, except that just like in the game God of War II they make some modifications in the story and the Gods are not so onmipotent as they seem.
Overall I enjoyed the movie and the animation and music were superb, putting more recent productions to shame.
Of course some clichees here and there made the movie boring and two hours were too much. But the movie had good direction and for a fantasy title.
Violent moments were plenty too, nothing to do with the more recent fantasy titles.
The major problem were the characters. For an 80's title they could have been better developed but obviously the animation and BGM took the lions share.
Action scenes were very well directed and some excerpts from Greek mythology were well used, if a little arbitrarily.
Now I would have liked this movie more if I hadnt seen a similar movie by Ralph Bakshi called "Fire and Ice".
Made 5 years prior to Arion, it had much better animation and character design (Frank Frazetta help with the design after all) and the final scenes from Arion look as if they were straight taken out from "Fire and Ice". So if you like fantasy I'd suggest watching that movie too.
If you like to see something similar in comedy, theres Violinist of Hamelin the Movie.
Since all three movies are underrated, you have nothing to lose by watching them.
Though the best option would be to read mythology books.

| What an anime this is, a pleasant find indeed. Based deeply in Greek mythology, it was a fun and eventful journey.
I didn’t expect much from this anime, and to be honest the first 10-15 minutes didn’t show much promise either. But after that, the story developed at a steady pace. A classic adventure.
It’s rare that animes like this aren’t afraid to do things to its characters, just look at all the other ancient-times anime with fantasy and magic and you’ll see that the good guys wins, so straight forward. Not to say that this isn’t the case here, but it certainly isn’t as straight forward.
The animation was nicely done, some sceneries were great for its time. It was also lighthearted a lot of the time - characters having a joking face. The sound wasn’t as good though, average for something like this.
Really like this anime, the action scenes I was actually nervous due to the fact that I knew anything could happen. Moderately unrealistic (in comparison to the world of this anime) at times, deep within, it’s an anime with solid stuff.

| When I saw the rating posted before me, I' ve sopped searching this anime. But when I' ve discovered that this was Yoshikazu Yasuhiro's first work I really wanted it. And I wasn't disappointed at all.
First of all the animation was great, no steady images but everything is moving. If this anime would have been made nowadays I would rated it at 8, but is not and it deserves the 10.
The sound is great. All you have to do is just to listen the music - it's a 100% Joe Hisaishi,( some times, it's like is the theme of Nausicca).
The story may look complicated, but is not at all. If you want to understand it, all you have to do is to read some antic mythology first ( if you don't know that yet ) and that will make the watching more enjoyable.
The first character doesn't have a strait line of development. The others characters don't even need that. It's already known the way they are (I'm referring to the gods and titans).
I really enjoyed this old anime and I hope other will to

| I've been wanting to see this movie since it's based on greek mythology but it disappointed me. The story is too complicated and the translation doesn't help at all. It seems like they did a literal translation since at times the subs didn't make sense.
I really hated how the anime portrayed the gods of Olympus. Athena is portrayed as a coldhearted warrior, Apollon as a playboy with a hidden agenda while the almighty Zeus is portrayed as a coward who runs off to Gaia for protection.
The animation was pretty average. I didn't like this anime and I don't think it's worth watching.

| This is a movie which starts out with the potential to be very interesting. However about thirty minutes into the movie interest enters duress. This is because the story is so convoluted and all over the place that you really provoked to find something else to watch.
Now in all fairness, this could be due to the translation and sub job performed on this movie. I found the dialouge quite strange and even absurd at times. Mind you I am not even taking into the account the liberties the creators took with the mythology involved. However after watching the film in its entirety, I doubt even seriously improved translation could polish this turd.
While the animation is good for an anime created in the mid-80s, its still not enough to make this worth the watch.

| my thoughts:
-beginning: this is going one good movie
-some where in the middle of the movie: can't believe how crap this movie has turned out from that promising build-up from the beginning
-ending: not too bad after all, sum things up pretty well
i was truly surprised when i learned that this movie'd been released in 1986, 18 freaking years ago and the animation was damn good. my thoughts on this movie are mixed, and probably best summed up by the above .... just felt like it was trying to squeeze too many things into a one movie that it ended up being lack in details and many things else(one of the thing is the character development ... i meant, i couldn't (in any way) feel what Arion felt during each period of his life as i have no idea where he came from in term of thoughts and emotions .... 2 hours watching him and i still can't put myself in his postition to try and feel what he felt, this certainly isn't usual)

| As I watched this anime, within the first few minutes, I found myself bored... Not long after that, I paused it to "do something worthwhile." I was so totally disapointed in this anime that I do not plan on wasting an CD-R on it, after wasting my bandwidth to download it. With the anime's very thin plot and lack of congruity between "parts" of the movie, made this show a waste. The only decent parts of this anime were the animation and music.

| Pretty boring in my opinion, could't enjoy it even though i tried.
The story is well... it's way off from Greek Mythology and only the names match actually. This sort off disturbed me... next to that, the story comes out pretty predictable... not surprising or interesting at all.
The music and animation are pretty good at some times, allthough not satisfying.
The movie doesn't last long enough to work with everything that happens and so many things are left open and quite... well... open... that really disturbed me the most.
This is not really entertaining in my opinion, but maybe worth a watch if at least you don't care that the story doesn't match the real mythology.
As seeing some people like it, it rather depends on what you like, it isn't a high grade movie though.:(

| I didn't like it. There's some decent action in it, but the story was all over the place.
While the topic is "mythology", there really is nothing in it about mythology besides the names. Other than the names, it's pretty much all wrong.
