(Rightstuff DVD rip by Animecha. Once I tried to order from Rightstuff's website and they requested detailed credit card info as if I was an impostor. So now you get my revenge!)

First I had heard about the Captain Tylor anime on the French satellite channel ''MANGAS'' and had watched a few episodes in French, but I thought that the TV series was complete crap and so I never bothered again. Since I was on a space anime marathon this OVA was the last anime of that genre I was going to watch.

The first two episodes were very good and funny, even though I hadnt any idea who the characters were. Though the Ralgoon Empire reminded me of the Abh in Crest of the Stars and they must have inspired the latter. The main character Tylor caught my attention immediately. Such a carefree and funny character made most of the difference in those two episodes. Really those episodes are a one-man show. Worth watching though not half as funny as Nadesico.

Then in the next 6 episodes the pace shifts completely. In episode 3, that of the Alien Princess, I was bored and thought the OVA would turn unwatchable. But fortunately the next episodes were good, though by not knowing the TV series characters it proved to be an advantage here. Or else I would have bothered. I liked the Christmas episode and the dogfight episode mostly. The rest were watchable.

The last two episodes were of the most boring ever. Not only didnt I understand what was going on. Everything was narrated in such a complex, boring and slow paced way that I was waiting impatiently for it to finish (I was worrying more about downloading Windy Tales while I was watching the episode). I didnt care about the ending or the characters that were developed well in ep 3-8.

Captain Tylor OVA isnt Banner of the Stars II to be both complex and interesting. Neither is it Martian Successor Nadesico to be funny and enjoyable. Instead it tries to be both funny and serious and have a little of everything. But the final recipe is ruined and it leaves a sour taste.

Animation is poor overall and sound even poorer. Characters are ugly but also very funy sometimes. The intro song of the first two episodes is of the few to include French and not English phrases and is worth listening. As for the ED theme of every episode I skipped them.

Only thing that makes this OVA worth watching once are the characters. Tylor for the first two episodes and the Christmas episodes especially. I didnt like the rest but they werent annoying either.

For sci-fi and anime fans Tylor OVA and the TV series deserve a look. I decided to watch just the OVA and I'll probably skip the TV series. I wont watch space operas for a while anyway....

OAV is the best, despist the characters history and stuff the real story in ep.1-2 and 9-10 was teh da bomb. The battle finally begin and the story is complex so don't even blink your eye.

Overall, this series have come pretty far and I should say it's been well done. Characters development is here! every ep. is meaningfull and you gotta love Azalyn!! she's hawt!! I'm not kidding you. TV series might get you down a bit, but these oav will get you back up and you'll see Tylor winning is not just dumb luck but his genius plan and his personality is what got him through anything. and yea.. you'll see Tylor got a 'little' mad at the last ep. you don't belive me?! watch it yourself.

Not quite the finale I was expecting for the Tylor saga. But it was somewhat satisfying. This OVA gives a lot more character development to some of the crew members of the Soyokaze. Tylor is practically a mere side character in this (except for the first two episodes). I cant say this approach was the best in ending a series since it created more questions than answers. The OVA ends the saga only to begin another one so its a little annoying. Some sort of epilogue wouldve been nice but everything is left for the viewers imagination.

The jokes arent as funny and some episodes bored me. Still it was a decent watch especially if you liked the Tylor universe as it progresses the war and the relationship between UPSF and Raalgons.

I'll start by saying that I've watched and enjoyed every minute of the Tylor TV series.

That statement also explains why I'm so disappointed with the OVAs, simply because the OVA is nothing like the series.

The first OVA was fine in my opinion, the story and the relationship between Tylor and Yuriko flowed very well.

The biggest gripe I have with the OVA series is with the second OVA, with the vague ending, and the absense of the main character Tylor, the story and enjoyment value to it has drastically sloped down. There was also barely any character development aside from Yamamoto, which isn't a character that I liked in the first place.

I would recommend stopping after watching the first OVA, and just let the second one slide, because the second one does not contribute much to the story, aside from forcefully introducing a third party to the war and ending the series abruptly.

Oh well, at least Tylor and Yuriko can be happy together now.

Well.... for the most part i did enjoy it. It picks up right where the tv series left off. The first 2 eps were the closest and most similar to the tv series. The change in animation bothered me a bit, but oh well... I missed the old music (with the exception of the opening theme song). The story was very good, but the only problem with it was that in the middle it dragged. It was a bit more serious than the tv series, but it still had its rather funny and damn amusing moments, especially with the marines. Surprisngly enough, I wouldn't consider Tylor the main character in the OVA, but u still can't have the story without him. I overall did like it, but i do have the same complaint that everyone has: where the fuck is the ending? (btw, to me it was obvious who the third party is....) Anyway, if you really liked the tv series, you should see this.

A very enjoyable extension of the Tylor TV show, as the description suggests, it's broken up into 3 distinct parts. It features the same characters and plotlines as the TV show but focuses more on plot/action and less on comedy.
