To Heart is for its credit is a well designed anime on its surface. Each new episode will introduce someone new and everyone feels happy, yet at the same time this happiness can feel artificial, especially when compared to the normal harem-style. To Heart is like cake frosting: seems good at first, but once you've gotten past that, there's very little underneath.

After watching To Heart, I really didn't feel anything. I'm all for shows that are plot or romance driven but this felt more like a filler-series full of tiny slice of life/school adventures.

I can't really remember what happens in this anime it's very slow and boring. It seems like a slice of life anime without any real point. Most of the characters are forgettable and series seems to focus on school life and the slow growing relationship between the two main characters.
Many scenes are drawn out to possibly create mood but it is hard to watch when nothing seems to happen. The male protagonist helps other girls he randomly meets but this does not seem to affect the female protagonist in any noticeable manner for the most part.

It's school life with a tinny tiny hit of relationship.

I'd recommend Lamune instead as it has a similar theme but the relationship is more fleshed out.

Great Anime! I have been watching many dating/romance Anime and was getting tired of those. However, To Heart seized my attention in the 1st a few episodes. You'd expect this type of anime to be a guy being popular among girls and all the "confession" things but it's not. It's much deeper than just this. Although it might be be clear in the first season, after watching the second season "To Heart ~Remember my Memories (This is NOT To Heart 2, See remark at the end)" everything should be clear to you. Story is NOT cliche but very original. Especially Multi, the robot girl plays an intergral part of this series, especially the second. There are many heartwrentching moments in both series and you see how the characters fight for their goals as they see how Multi strives to become closer as a human being. Now think of it, Multi is very similar to Pinochio but yet very different. Well, you have to see it yourself to understand.

SIDE REMARK: To Heart 2 which is made in 2005 has ABSOLUTELY NO relationship to this one or its sequal (hint: stay away from that one).

I liked this anime. It was simple and doesnt leave you thinking or anything. Just a feel-good time. Unlike KGNE or AIR its pretty much got no emotions (maybe a bit at the end, don't fully remember) Only 13 eps so its worth watching.

What a rare (exceptional?) anime!!

First of all this review (and my score) is based in all the serie MINUS the episode 3 [that I think is totally weird and can be (must?) totally skipped].

At the beginning I was complaining about the male voice acting (Hiroyuki really annoyed me with his relly unenthusiastic voice), I was having problems with the color scheme of the animation, but I could handle that increasing the bright, contrast and saturation of my viewer :).

After all Akari was such a little kawai girl and Shiho even noisy was cute that I thought this serie could be interesting, somehow...

But when I was viewing the 3 ep, I was wondering What?, all the little defects above mentioned plus a little witch girl without voice plus a totally nonsense black magic history (that I hate) plus an unemotional guy that is unable to see the girl he has by side... heck!
This was shoujo? Was a terror serie? I didn't have time to see random crap, after all 7 hours of my life are expensive to be wasted in lame anime... So I switched series and focussed my *modern japanese animation research* in another worth watching serie ^_^...

One day I was revisiting the reviews here and I found a lot of people had finished to see this serie, people I know don't see whatever only because is made in japan... and this "Multy" thing really was picking my curiosity, so I decide to try again with this.

Little by little ToHeart was gaining value to me. The slow paced rhythm was coherent, the scheme color even rare was in the end *artistic* something I only have seen in this anime, but of course I haven't seen 900 titles like others, Akari and shiho very believable characters. Even Hiroyuky proved to be a
nice guy when he met Multy (a relly relly cute girl maid robot). The two eps of Multy are my favorites...

Little by little I was more and more thinking that maybe this anime was relly above the average (I don't review so so animes, you know? I'm pretty lazy... AND even above the average, I don't review animes that I don't like or are well known)

In the end I must to say this is a worthy anime that I really enjoyed, slowly peaced, with a little bit
of romance and If you forget some ep. relly valuable.

Despite the lack of sufficient character development, this show is very enjoyable for those who liked such shows as Azumanga Daioh and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. This is the "lite" version of these shows, with less angst and drama--focusing mostly on school life. Although there is a romantic sub-plot in the story, it is light hearted and there is never any serious conflict. The main characters handle it with a cool head and restraint. Which by the way, in my opinion, is probably more realistic anyway.

On the whole, this is a well made series that leaves you feeling good--although perhaps a little hungry for more substance.

If I had to choose one word to describe To Heart it would be "Pleasant". It was nice to watch, but there's nothing exciting about it, nothing to blow you away or make you look forward to the next episode.
It has plenty of cute girls and for a change, the guy wasn't geeky, he was a lazy git, to be honest! You can't really class it as a harem anime, or a romance anime; I guess "Slice of School Life" would fit it perfectly!
I did enjoy watching To Heart, it was a pleasant little anime and perfect for watching after a tiring day - something to relax with ^_^

I was right when I said Japanese love exploring new areas. You can easily see it within the video games, the movies, and even the hentai! To Heart isn't a love romance, even though it might appear like it due to its title. Basically, it's a light hearted show dealing with the very basic things in high school life, such as club activities, positioning of desks within the classroom, and the many relationships between each student. Hiroyuki is a special person who's really good at creating new relationships in a blink. Throughout the show, Hiroyuki, along with Akari, deal with the problems some of their classmates may be facing.

It's a really simplistic show, but that's why it's so awesome. It's odd how much I've enjoyed an episode concentrating on a girl's wishes of sitting beside the man he likes, or the minor crisis faced when the cultural festival is the following day, yet little has been prepared. The characters are also really developed well, and you only wish that there was just more than 13 episodes.

The only thing I really didn't like about the show was its animation. It seems rather outdated and not very fluid, and the hair colour of the character's can seem somewhat far fetched and too abnormal. Akari's hair matches her red school uniform. There's another with leaf green hair, another with deep purple, another with light light purple, and so on.

Everything else is just fine though. To Heart reminds me a lot of Kokoro Library; nothing major is really being dealt with. Just the simple things in life that we may overlook as minor.

Yet another light-hearted anime that I have seen this summer. I finally got the chance to watch To Heart and I can't really say whether or not it met my expectations. It was good, but also had some flaws compared to other anime with the comedy/school-life/romance genre. Nothing really happens other than your everyday life as a teenager in high school. It's slow paced so it's better for those who enjoy anime with more dialogue than action. There isn't much suspense built in this anime either but you can anticipate certain things. Overall a decent anime and it probably rightfully belongs in the top 200 list.

Wow this anime was great, animation was smooth and voice acting was great. Hiroyuki is a really admirable main character, the voice acting of him in this series was great (but it becomes DREADFUL in "to heart: remember my memories"). The opening for this anime is very good, and the ED is alright. The storyline doesnt seem liek much, but the pacing of this anime and the way it was done made it really good. Sometimes it would get boring to some other people every now and then, but i enjoyed it. Yeah this aniem surprised me, there was barely any fan service which set the mood very well, and the way Akari shows her love to Hiroyuki without being a aggressive won me over. I loved the character designs (which also become DREADFUL in the next installment...) in this anime, and Hiroyuki always had that funny annoyed looked on his face. All the characters were developed well. I even enjoyed the ending, which some people may agree. For 13 episodes, the pacing of the story and the somewhat open ending felt right for this anime. In my opinion you might want to just skip "remember my memories", Hiroyukis voice acting becomes very bad and it doesnt even sound like him anymore... I enjoyed this anime very much and it has a reason to be as popular as it is now.

This anime is indeed very slow paced according to the posted description and I kind of was hesitant to watch anime like this because I feel that such animations should be reserved and left up to movies.

However, this wouldn't be suitable for a movie despite its revolvement around 'life'. Nevertheless, I felt that this was semi-enjoyable at parts. Although not a lot happens, it is quite a nice feeling to watch something like this. Perhaps its because this girl's image and voice is cute (and I'm a sucker for red hair like this) I didn't feel particularly bored by the lack of energetic events.

One of the most annoying parts is Hiroyuki's character at the beginning. His voice actor makes him feel so heavy and slow-witted lol. Because of the large amount of dialogue, I certainly wouldn't recommend watching these episodes one after another for fear of getting tired with all the 'drama'.

Overall, a story about school life and especially focused on relationships and events on a high schooler's life. Nothing angsty, quite plain events...
I think the target audience of this anime would be middle schoolers (mostly) to younger high schoolers. Probably, Girls because I dont think any guys would want to watch this.

Episode:
1) Choosing seats
2) Going to a concert but worried about not enough tickets.
3) Hiroyuki and the black haired magic girl
4) Mostly on this girl's martial arts/boxing
5) School Sport Events
6) Hiroyuki and another girl...
etc....

Things dont really happen until episode 7.... halfway through... and even further before Multi comes in and it starts picking up more..

This is a pleasant, slow-moving and unpretentious little anime that I enjoyed more than I expected. The story revolves around two high school seniors who are always together but who have never declared their feelings. To complicate the situation, a pretty robot begins to take up a lot of the guy's time and some of his feelings too. (Robot is probably not the correct word here, but that's what the subtitles say.)

So - the plot has two themes: the developing relationship between the two main characters and the issue of the degree to which the robot is human, and whether that humanity can be maintained.

I liked the story because it took its themes seriously. Some of the side characters had feelings for the main ones, but they didn't behave nastily or underhandedly in their relationships. In other words, they were able to handle rejection in an adult manner.

The music is pleasant but not great. The ending is just fine (be sure and watch the final credits or you will miss it). There's no fanservice (or if there is, it went by so quickly that I missed it, which is unlikely). All in all, it's an enjoyable if not profound viewing experience.

The first thing you'll notice about this anime is that it's different. You may love it or hate it, but it's likely to be very different than anything you've seen before.

I personally found this work to be a refreshing change of pace, a hidden gem. There's a lot more depth to this title than appears at first; the pacing may be slow, but there is definitely progress and development over the 13 episodes.

An easy series to watch, but a hard one to understand. Those who "get it" are likely to be swept up by its charms; those who don't will be bored throughout.

I thought this was somewhat alright, extremely laid back from all of the anime I've seen. However it does takes most of the time to have a good notice on the character's personalities. I think that it did a fine job of being as part of the usual and ideal anime that is out there, but it just doesn't give much to the table. I also thought that some of the comedy value was plain from the beginning. For it's strong points it really was well animated, and the music also added that calm feeling to it. I thought it was nice change of pace, but I guess it wasn't really my type.

This may me a gamble to watch for some people, because some people may find it boring. However some people, like me, may find it to be very good . Its basically about a bunch of school kids, friendship, and kindness. You will like it if you watch it to feel good and like how they socialize, and go through their everyday life. You may not like it if you want strong drama, conflict, comedy, or serious romance. This is very light hearted and good for a casual watch. I think its under rated because people who should have known they wouldnt like it watched it any ways.

Slow-paced for the first few episodes... I literally had to force myself to watch those eps. I think the series got a little better at episode 4.

The sound was average.. although it seemed to stand out a little more than normal anime series. I didn't like the opening very much... didn't appeal to me.

The story... if there is one.. was hardly noticeable and barely progressing. Nothing major really happens in any episode. Even on the last one.. nothing.. remotely important happened.

Characters were.. average.. typical harem-like characters. A nice kind guy, always helping others (maybe the only difference is in 'To Heart' is that he's really lazy), a girl who likes the main character and will probably end up with him.. but is too shy to voice her feelings, other girls who encounter the male character and begin to like him.. and lastly supporting characters, usually another male to make it less harem-y...

Whether you want to watch it or not is of course, up to you. But for me.. I definitely don't want to sit and watch the series again.

I tried. I really did. I must be some sort of sadist because I keep watching these harems titles in hopes that one of them will have any redeeming value. Well no more. I now realize I was a moron for ever thinking that harem animes could offer some insight into relationships when they are solely intended to appeal to the basest human desires. Now, on to the bashing (easily the most entertaining part of watching these shows):

This is best discribed as “a slice of life anime, albeit an ideal version, with a bit of romanced throw in.

Yet another anime that doesn’t lift off until way in to the series (in this case, episode 6). And the romance came even later.

The first few episodes will bore most, nothing much happens, no real story, no real character development and I feel there are things included in the start of this series that made it look particularly bad and definitely gives it a bad first impression.

The characters in this anime is what rescued it from complete boredom (and the romance element), there were great and it’s quite amazing how I felt so much for most of them after just having them in 2 episodes, in such a short time, a strong bond between them and the audience is created. But they were at times too “pretend-like.

Tunes were sweet and happy ones in To heart mainly, they were too great, repeats of the same stuff.

Animation was okay, I didn’t find them too special, at points very simplistic and other very atmospheric, the characters however were well drawn.

Didn’t enjoy this as much as I should have, it is overall quite average, there were special moments but they were not big enough and not to make this good enough. I wouldn’t recommend watching this, too many will hate it, the other will not think much of it and those who like it will be too few. But if you would like an anime where nothing much happens apart from everyday life that is better than Piano, this is it.

To Heart is an interesting little anime, for a highschool drama/romance it has several food points as well as the inevitable bad ones.

Good points, the animation is very slick, imo, virtually no CG and the character designs are generally well made. The soundtrack for To Heart is superb, it has good BGM as well as very nice OP/EDs.

Bad points, its too short, for a 13 episode series it felt that the company was trying to cram in too much with too little time. Oh and the overall story was lacking but the main point is that this anime is split into many side character stories and not focused in one main plot, which comes into my next point..

the side stories/characters, this is a hate it or love it affair, there are FAR too many characters introduced in this series, with too many of them useless for the plot or their little side-story was very un-interesting (Psychic girl's and magic arts girl are the first offenders). However, there are the other side-stories which were fun to watch and provided something good towards the overall character development (Multi and Shiho being the best ones).
The fact that this series is based on side stories and that half of them were terrible and the other half were good makes the overall anime not too good.
Hiroyuki and Akari are well made main characters, with the ignorant but nice Hiroyuki providing a ncie change fromn the nerdy main male i've seen recently. Akari is just pretty and nice.

Overall, its a decent little series for those highschool dramas but not for the romance.

Overall, 6.5/10
Grade: C+
