| Basara is a very nice, and underrated anime.
I watched the whole thing in a 2 days, and i really wanted more.
First thing i have to say is that you mustn't judge this anime because of the 2-3 first episoides. I have to agree, the begining was very poor. the story didn't look like it's going to develop nowhere. but you will be surprised how nide this anime is.
Second thing, i must warn: This anime is unfinished. totally unfinished. the final episoide makes you want too much more, and it looks like it's just the begining of the story.
I really hope that someday they will release an OVA or serie, or even a Movie, Just to finish the story.
If you like RPG-like Adventures, or just looking for some nice romance, i would recomend this one.
One more thing: Some elements of the story might be annoying. without those elements (Some characters luck, for example), the story might get a 10.

| An impressive beginning but a too overly dramatic, disappointing and predictable as it approached towards the end of the series. A feeling of incompleteness at the very end as I desired more... especially since this arc seems a lot more interesting than the first.
Overall, this is an interesting watch. with a lot of pretty music and noble characters. There are a few similarities between this and the 12 Kingdoms (mostly because of the female lead) but sadly the story isn't as intricate and detailed.

| I didn't think much of this anime after the first episode. The animation is not nearly as polished as today's standards, and the first episode also happened to have bad resolution so the outcome was pretty ugly. Also, the story seemed quite ordinary, and characters and events too extreme. However after a few episodes and some seemingly typical events the story started to unfold and characters reveal more depth. When I started watching I was hoping to get the anime over and done with quick, but by the time the series finished it left me hoping it didn't.
It's a shame Basara never really got a chance; I believe with even one full 26 ep. season it could've made a lasting impression, instead of being doomed to fade away and be forgotten, as it was cut down because of low ratings before it reached any closure. Half the characters shown in the opening credits weren't even introduced yet, sheesh.

| Firstly, this is as yet the closest thing to berserk I have ever seen. The only thing significantly different is the shoujo aspect of it, other then that, there are many similarities.
Firstly, this anime does not conclude, therefore read the manga to find out what happens right at the end. But the story is very good, if you endure the slow start, it gets more interesting very late for me, around eps 10 out of 13 is where things really get interesting.
Secondly, the characters some I wasn’t fond of. I don’t like girl look like boy and vice versa, confuses my sexuality somewhat (one big reason why I didn’t like fruit basket). But other than that, very well drawn characters, but the lead female was a bit too masculine and had a few unrealistically heroic speech for my liking.
Animation was gritty a lot of the places, if you have seen Berserk, record of Lodoss or Fencer of Minerva, you’ll know what to expect.
Sound was okay, didn’t fancy the opening theme, the ending theme was better, there was some good sound bits and themes during the anime, but not good enough to be “good�.
Recommended? Yes, but not a solid yes, Basara as an anime has it’s flaws and may not interest many people, so I’d say again, to all berserk fans, to all people that like those medieval, old, legend and myth like animes, this is far better than most to miss, however, if you don’t or are looking for shoujo anime, this is not it, romance in this felt rather empty due to the premature end.

| This is shoujo anime so like most other shoujo anime, the actual animation is pretty crappy. Lots of stills, etc. The background story however, was really fascinating. An alternate Japan turned into desert with four kingdoms vying for power. You can even see elements taken from real history with European powers trying to influence Japan's power struggle. Fans of SF/fantasy genre should really enjoy this show. Too bad it ends abruptly. This is truly a hidden gem among anime.

| You know, I think Basara could have been the best shoujo fantasy-adventure anime ever, if it wasn't cancelled. Not that it's facing all that stiff competition. Beats the pants off of Fushigi Yuugi anyway. I wish I could review it more throughly, but my memory's rather rusty concerning it, but I guess with it's relative age it's not all that surprising.
Someday I guess I'll get around to reading the manga.

| Legend of Basara zählt ohne Zweifel zu den besten Fantasy-Animes überhaupt. Die Serie überzeugt mit einer großartigen und äußerst spannenden Story die zu begeistern und zu fesseln weiss sowie genauso tollen Charakteren die in diesen 13 Episoden unglaublich gut in Szene gesetzt wurden. Langeweile kommt nie auf und der Verlauf der Geschichte bleibt von Anfang bis Ende spannend und besonders die Beziehungen der verschiedenen Figuren sorgen dafür das man Legend of Basara bis zur letzten Episode verfolgt. Leider Gottes kommt der Anime zu keinem Ende und nach den 13 Eps ist Schluß ohne das man je erfahren wird wie die Geschichte ausgeht wenn man sich nicht die Mangas kauft. Dennoch ist und bleibt Legend of Basara eine tolle Serie deren Geschichte man unbedingt in den Mangas weiterverfolgen sollte! Eine Empfehlung für jeden Fan von Fantasy!

| This anime is a masterpiece, well actually, it could have been a masterpiece. It's unfinished, and that says it all. I read some time ago (arroung the year 2000) that this anime didn't get enough rating so they stopped at ep 13...
Makes me remember Candidate for goddess, it's not similar to it in any way, but it's a great anime, that was left behind by the creators and probably by public at its time.

| I feel sorry for LoB, because it didn't get the popularity it deserved. It only spanned out to 13 episodes, which is like not even 1/4 of the true story. Although I like this series very much, I can't give it a great rating, the reason is that once you watch it, you probably stack it somewhere away. The music is not my taste. The characters development is good. Great story, man I hated the Red King before, but I ended up rooting for him.

| This was a well thought out anime. Sadly enough it only lasted 13 episodes, and I don't think they will be doing another season of it. And what makes it worst is that it never end and it was a damn good show. Blessed with near perfect plot lines and character development, I'm surprise more people don't watch it. Even though the animation wasn't that great, it was pretty good for when it was made. You'll miss a very good series, but you'll be pissed off that it didn't end.
