| Finally got around to watching Armitage III...despite all previous expectations, the anime managed to be entertaining and capture my attention for the 2 hours over which it spans.
The animation and sound for this OVA isn’t top notch nor could they be...we are talking about a 1994 show after all. Whilst the character designs were interesting (and the fan-service was sky-rocketing) the overall impression I received from the animation wasn't a bright one. It's an old anime and it shows as far as animation goes. As for the sound: fitting music for a cyber-punk flick and overall average voices, except for D'anclaude's...that one was really fitting for the character.
Cyber-punk anime usually revolves around the premise of humans and machines, coexistence or hatred. Armitage does not stray at all from this general guide-line and even more, the hatred shown in this anime is much rather a drive for the entire story than an important part of the plot-line. I say this because throughout the OVA, there are no explanations given as to why humans hate the robots, accuse them and try to destroy them.
Actually, the overall feel that I got from the OVA's story was that it was rushed, very very rushed. The anime sets out to do many great things but in just 4 episodes it could not complete its own plot nor its own cyber-punk universe, everything regarding this just seeming to be placed somewhere in the background. The ending comes up rushed as well, leaving a lot of questions in place of answers. At least the battle in the final episode was interesting to watch.
The characters as well were not completed. Armitage herself was a good characters, she had some depth beneath the fan-service mask, which is far more than I can say about the other pieces of the cast. Detective Ross didn't seem to be of any use in the end except for the romance part, Julian, the villain was psychotic and all the others are really not interesting.
My opinion is that Armitage, done properly, could have grown into a really wonderful full-length series. As it is, everything just seems crammed to fit into 2 hours and it missed a lot of marks.
An overall pleasant experience but unfortunately it was too short to really become a beacon in its own time. It's honestly a shame, a perfectly good premise and character gone to waste because of lack of development.

| This is the best sci-fi anime I have ever seen. Naomi is my fav. character not only is she hot, but she can have children and kick ass, and she looks good doing it! ^^ I dont think Ross fit in this anime, I think they could have picked another male character for this becuase Ross just stuck out like a giant trying to hide with midgets.

| Reminds me of Pinnochio ( i want to be a real boy), Chobits (robots and love), and Ghost in the Shell (conflict between ghosts/souls and memory, and if memory is enough to be human) and the all prevalent message in all robot/android anime/movies: androids = humans? what's the difference etc.
I enjoyed Armitage III. There isn't much meat behind it, but its a 4 episode OVA; how much can one fit in? It deals with the usual issues of the fine line between humanity and machine. The ending is truly very weird, and I was not very happy with it.
Naomi Armitage is definitely a 'cool character' but there is not much sympathy for any of the characters. I especially didn't like what they did with the whole human+android relationship with the police partnership.
HOwever, I could see it being developed into a great series if done properly, but the way everything rushed through in the OVA, it might be hard to enjoy this. Fighting scenes kind of sucked due the ancient animation style relative to the standard sci-fictions should have.
I guess the only good part of this anime is Armitage herself. I would only watch this if you have a huge obsession with hot android girls. The animation is outdated and the story is unmipressive. It probably wont be very captivating to most people out there.

| Armitage III is one of the better sci-fi animes out there and a superb cyberpunk movie, even though it doesn't set any new standards.

| Lacking the pseudo-profound bull that plagued Ghost in the Shell and the tedium of Bubblegum Crisis, Armitage III is an entertaining albeit vacuous work. If you're looking for cerebral exercises, look elsewhere. But if all you want is four episodes of mindless entertainment, then by all means, look no further.
Despite my brother's claim that Armitage III is a "good" anime, for some time I avoided it like the plague. Gracing the front cover of the DVD is our hot-pants wearing, gum popping protagonist, posing in a very....ah....unlady-like position. Yes, in this case, you can judge a book by its cover. The anime is about as fan-servicy as it appears. But it's not completely hopeless. We have yet again the malignity between mankind and robots. In this case, however, the humans' hatred of the robots seem to be unfounded. Why do they hate them? Why are they blamed for recession and societal problems? And why is some maniac murdering all the Thirds? These are interesting questions, but unfortunately, the OVA doesn't answer all of them. Either that or I wasn't paying enough attention. The ending was very rushed and apparently out of nowhere. In this case, four episodes were probably not enough for such material. Armitage III probably would have been successful as a full-length TV series.
The protagonist, Naomi Armitage, isn't as depthless as the shameless fan-service may appear. Underneath her empty, tough-talking dialogue, there's a confused and disoriented young woman. Why does she have emotions and memories, although she is a robot? What is a Third? Her desire to have these questions answered are convincing enough. Her partner, Ross Sylibus, is not as convincing. He's obviously just in the anime to fulfill the role of the "love interest." The best character is the villain, D'anclaude. His seiyuu did an excellent job in making him sound as insane as he is.
Having a lot of plot holes, an unsatisfying ending, and subpar characters, Armitage is enjoyable, but its mediocrity is painfully clear. The best part of the show is the middle, the second and third episodes. Well, at least it wasn't as bad as I thought it will be. Or rather, not as bad as the DVD cover will have you think.

| Excellent long movie (that's the mind set I had when I watched it since that's how long all the OVAs were). I wee bit lacking in explainations but then again even really good movies have those problems. If this was a real series I'd attack it on that. I really enjoyed the story. Lot like Battle Angel Alita. The animation was solid, even for 1994, though Armitage did look a little too girlish (as in like 5 y.o.) some of the time. The music and voices were excellent. The only problem is the way they say Armitage (it sounds stupid). Great story, great characters, short. Definitely worth a watch.

| animation:
there where a few lags in here overall good drawn for "94 yet the fighting sometimes just seem to miss the specail thing. also the animations itself so now and then seem to go faster and then slower.
Sound:
i wachted teh dubbed version wich is awfull the voiceacting is terrible the sound is bad. there bearly any music on the background and no hitting intro song. the ending song was oke. if you want to see this anime see it in Japanese not in English!!!
Story:
the start wasn't all that good yet when the story kicks in (halfway ep 1) its getting fun till somwhere half ep 4.
the end kinda is open and keeps it open for a tv show or some extra movies.
the story is quite origanel for its time. yet when i saw it there have been atleast a 20 movies wich are similar to this. stukk the story took on his own role and ended up pretty oke. except for the last ep wich i kinda felt like the creators got a bugetcut or something from the boss and had to finish it. they could have gone way more into detail and made the end way more interresting.
Character:
ooeh you just love her. shes a spicy girl. with a fuck that atittude.
as it mainly concentrates on Armitage and Sylibus. theres not much more characterization in it.
Value:
it sertainly does deserver its titles amount the good. its a good anime. yet it fails to hit the spot. its a shame.
with a good story that ends terrible nice characters. it just lacks good sound and visual.
Enjoyment:
i cannot say i didn't enjoy watching it. it was nice. i think they could have done way more out of it. its good for everyone who loves a good Sci-fi action anime. i personally think the movie (wich is a rip off from teh OVA) is better.

| I watched the dubbed version of this. It was...okay, I suppose. For a short anime sci-fi movie, it was a little bit better than average. In other words, it's not worth watching. Armitage III brings absolutely nothing of interest to the table, brings up a few tired moral/philosophical questions concerning human-like robots/androids, and promptly refuses to even attempt to answer them, instead blowing many things up instead. The main character, Armitage does a fairly good job of making you interested in her situation, but it only makes you feel that much more betrayed by the lack of resolution. However, things blow up mightily pretty, and that may be all you ask for. There's also a good deal of fanservice, which serves to distract more than anything else, but girls and guns has been proven to work on a surface scale, at least. Watch it for your action anime sci-fi fix, and not much more, and you should come away satisfied.

| Armitage is a great OVA! There may be a little too much going on for a short series and the story is a little rough on the edges... But overall it is great, one of the best Blade Runner influenced works, and the characters are some of the best I've seen.
The animation is dated now, but still looks great. Same goes for the music. It may be old but fits the anime's mood perfectly.

| An anime that looks extremely good (those character designs are certainly original), has a style all of its own (the realisation of Martian society and the city/wasteland landscapes are distinctive, but only just) and has great music (sadly interspersed with some atrocious country and western, for reasons of plot and the like).
Unfortunately, very little of this really matters if the ultimate product just doesn't match up to the standards it sets for itself. Too much that happens, especially in the final episode, smacks of the writers just getting lazy, not really knowing what to do now that they've got all the revelations out of the way. The final battle scene, whilst intereting in its own, subdued way, looks silly because it is, essentially, two people taking on an entire army and winning....
Characterisations come off as a little forced because they're ciphers to the plot, for the most part.... Armitage should have had a better plot, too.... The one presented leaves little to think about, from a series that tries to be so contemplative (for an action show).
One wonders if the Total Recall 2070 tv series ripped off Armitage, or whether Armitage ripped off the original Total Recall movie....

| Armitage III is very hard to sum up in a single review, due to the fact it takes place over 4 orginal ova episodes, then a brand new movie that was just released this year. I class this as a classic piece of cyberpunk anime.
The newer movie (dual matrix) is on par with the orginal series for sheer enjoyment.

| Many compare this anime to 'Ghost in a Shell' and to some degree it is very similar. It asks many of the same questions that 'Ghost in a Shell' asked, how do we define life? But i feel this pushes this question much further. On the whole the animation voices are alright, nothing really to write home about. But the thing which really hurts this anime is that the story feel very rushed. It throws way too much in the viewers face all at once. But i still think this anime is worth a watch for all anime lovers out there.
