| As much as I dislike Ghibli films like Naushika and Laputa, this sets a new low for the studio. While the two previously mentioned films are dislikeable for me simply because I do not enjoy the fantasy genre, Yamada-kun is something that I think more general people can agree is not very good (although I did enjoy it more than both Naushika & Laputa).
I mean, yeah, it's cute, and simple, and watching it will have no adverse effects to your mental state. However, after it was done, I had the vague impression I has just been bored for about two hours from the damn movie. The reason for this simply is because once again, this Ghibli film was outside of my preferred genre, and most "otaku's" as well. This is for the family - the nuclear family like presented here - to sit down and enjoy together after a hard day. In other words, I think only either older people or younger kids could enjoy this. A teenage "otaku" watching this alone at four in the afternoon is not what Takahata had in mind when creating this, I'm sure. Admittedly, Takahata seems to have gone insane creating this. The director of some of the best anime films - Pom Poko, Grave of the Fireflies - creating this. A shame, really.
All in all, I praise the anime gods that Ghibli rebounded with Spirited Away, and Takahata with Neko no Ongaeshi. Otherwise their reputation would be in the toilet.

| Really worth watching, although nothing spectacular happens, it is a heart warming story, with very nice scenes and ideas, and funny as well - it just makes you think "wow, this looks like

| This reminded me of those short satirical cartoons I see between breaks on TV. When each short episode is seen individualy and not as a whole movie it can become very enjoyable. I liked especially the short story about that guy's first love which had very charming and simple animation. Also the scene on the Tube where a woman sleeps on his shoulder till the final station.
Some parts were very funny. Since I like that kind of animation I think this has to be one good production for TV. Short clips require different approach than a movie.
Good overall for such a short span. Sadly nothing of that sort will be broadcast on TV here.

| This is quite frankly one of the worse movie from Ghibli. Its not really that bad, but something that I can hate really fast. Its a potray of everyday life from the eyes of a looser.
This anime is what you get when you turn comic strips/comic fun into a motion picture.

| Te animation while nice in places is mostly pretty weak. The story is pretty much non existant so no high marks there either. Characters are fun but thats about all it's got going for it. It feels like it might have worked as 2 or three minute episodes but it's hard to watch a completely unfocused movie for 100 minutes. I like studio ghibli works as much as the next guy and this is actually their first work that I didn't like that much, so I guess they can be forgiven but I'm damned If I'll give this movie anything more than an average review. I'm also pretty sure this movie would have been largely ignored if it didnt have the ghibli label on it.

| My Neighbors the Yamadas is a unique movie. It has no real concflect, but its focus is more on normal day to day life. This show takes adverage family things like sibling rivelry and studying and turns into comedy. The animations are very basic which goes along with the simple plot of life in the house hold of the Yamadas family. Only a true fan will beable see the beauty in this simplistic, wonderful movie.
