| K-on is a lighthearted anime about 4 girls who join the light music club in their school. Problems arise but nothing serious enough to kill the mood.
The animation in K-On is solid enough to get a pass. Nothing special but the animation fits the show and didn't really need to be anything special.
Sound
K-On's sound quality is above average. The opening and ending themes are ok. And when they do practice or perform live the sound is always crisp.
Story
The basic plot of K-On is girls join their schools light music club to try and save it. Nothing too special happens in the plot. Of course there's a build up to a big event that they play. The fact is if they played in their club room the whole anime it wouldn't have mattered because it was funny throughout and very enjoyable.
Character
The characters have a range of personalities but they all mesh together very well. There's ample opportunity to see the characters interact as they tend to slack more then they practice.
Value
I really enjoyed this anime more then I expected and suggest everyone give it a shot. It was funny throughout and no matter if you did see some things coming from a mile away it didn't matter because the delivery was excellent

| K-ON! is the current-day evolution of the school life genre anime with a twist. The twist comes in its intriguing music plot that is merged into anime. While skeptical at first, this anime is quite superb. The animation quality was good (the girls are actually super-cute), the music cute and very surprising, the voice acting core for a music-oriented anime was topnotch, and the plot interesting.
Each character is distinguishable by certain unique characteristics in K-ON! which I believe cannot be replaced with a different character mold. The character selection for K-ON! made the series work and allowed the viewer to admire each chaarcter for their personality and pick favorites. For a school life/general genre it is very important to have impressions for the characters and this anime does so really well.
While I really enjoyed the series and would totally recommend people to watch it if they are at the least bit curious, I did find that the plot despite being interesting seemed to follow the paths of some previous school life genres in the past. Not that its a bad thing, but rather it wasn't as original as the music that came with the plot.
K-ON! is an interesting anime that adds a new colorful idea to the school life genre which I think will entertain all kinds of anime fans.

| K-On! is an incredibly pleasant 12 episode +1 DVD bonus episode slice of life comedy anime from the legendary studio Kyoto Animation. The anime is themed around music, so it features a highly impressive soundtrack in addition to its already highly entertaining story.
KyoAni has always been extremely impressive in their graphics and animation, either through impressive graphical details, or beautifully simplistic designs. In K-On! however, the graphics from KyoAni is not special in any particular way. Of course, it is still very pleasant to look at, and the level of detail is sufficient. It simply lacks the special touch which would make it stand out from the rest.
The soundtrack is where K-On! truly shines. With a story based around a high school music band, both the theme songs and the insert songs are all of outstanding quality, resulting in several extremely special moments during the anime. Since all the songs are performed by the voice actresses of K-On!, it is only no surprise that the voice acting breathes life into the characters in K-On!.
Although K-On! does not actually have a main storyline, each and every episode is absolutely delightful to watch. The story simply follows the activities and challenges the characters in the anime go through, which involves a series of very enjoyable, relaxing, and funny events.
As previously mentioned, the voice acting in K-On! is brilliant. And because of this, the anime has an incredible cast of characters who are both adorable and fun to watch. Character development is present, although quite limited given the length of the anime.
Nevertheless, the characters in K-On! are simply a joy to follow.
The only real downside of K-On! would be its length, especially given that the bonus DVD episode is rather lacklustre. A sequel to K-On! is highly likely, especially given the incredibly positive reception given to the anime by anime viewers worldwide. Anyone who enjoys works by KyoAni will definitely enjoy K-On!, and I would recommend this anime to all my friends, as it is a very entertaining anime.

| I suppose not all anime about music has to be like BECK or Macross, but when it comes to the focus, there must be heavy emphasis on the music and how to sell it extremely well. Okay, so Kyoto Animation and Kadokawa are masters at selling extremely well, but when it comes to the actual show, the substance comes off disappointing as there is almost never a point where perfection of a show can be reached even by a high-tiered animation company.
If I were to make an anime about a band of high school girls, I would produce an entire 12-track ALBUM in the span of 13 episodes and use at least 5 songs as lead singles and inserts. 25% or more of the show would be just the girls practicing or doing live performances while the rest of the show shows their slice-of-life and moe comedy to increase their cuteness and selling their personalities. NEVER would I use only TWO songs to sell, even to a target audience of little kids, music over a 50+ episode period (I'm looking at you, Full Moon). If live performance animation is boring and tedious to draw, maybe shove a couple more music videos (than just one) in there to make it more interesting. The show would be an absolute pinnacle in production values and the hype would have been worth it; hell, it could even stand the tests of time.
K-ON! does only the minimal requirements of the above and still eats the Japanese otaku's money (not necessarily North American...). There were only 3 singles (+1 more later, only two were "written by the band" songs) released during its airing time with character songs to come: it is the perfect strategy to make money, but in the long run the appreciation of the show drops drastically as we can only hold enough suspension of disbelief that the girls are really a band and can play their own instruments. Speaking of that, I know they showed Yui to be some sort of retarded genius, but it can only go so far for someone with musical knowledge that she mastered the intermediate riffs the REAL musician plays on the songs. Most of the show ponders around the girls doing cute stuff and getting you to like them, and that's exactly what you would expect out of a slice-of-life moe comedy targeted at the otaku generation of mid-2000's. The second half of the show introduces Azusa as a new character, but like all other half-way introduction pitfalls, she does not grow on the audience enough that justifies her taking up space in the OP and taking out the awesome shot of the other four girls jumping off stairs. With so much slice-of-life and harem anime being produced with the same scenarios over and over again, K-ON! seems like a generic knock-off, only with the music gimmick. It is a shame the excuse-for-a-4koma-manga has not ended yet so this 13-episode 2-year coverage has you longing for a second season that won't come until Full Metal Panic! is complete. This runaway success will eventually die down and become forgotten as something new and more moe takes over the cause of your heart attacks.
I don't think the reader understands half of what I'm saying unless they look at my other reviews, but I am not trying to say I did not enjoy K-ON!. Sure it is a cash cow like Lucky Star was, but as a Kyoto Animation fanboy and critic I cannot help but be drawn in to the hype. Once again, I finish a show disappointed that it ended so early and I must break my ties with imaginary characters who are even hotter if they let their hair down. You can only become a true fanboy if the last episode does not enrage the fact you wasted 25 minutes of your life watching nothing happening. I wish in the future KyoAni does something worthy of another 10/10 on my scale, but for now, it's another money-raker to fund my next seasons of Haruhi and Full Metal Panic!.

| K-on! is the tale of Yui Hirasawa. As she enters high school, her class rep encourages her to join a club. The Light Music Club, a J-pop band situated in the high school that needs a new member. Yui has one problem though... she's never played guitar before.
Now that the initial run is over, I can say that it was very nice.
