Akane-iro no Somaru Saka is yet another game-based anime that failed ito make the transition from game to anime. While some games turned anime have been superb and are now anime hits such as Clannad, the Naku Koro ni series, and to a lesser degree Kanon, Akane-iro like many of its game-based predecessors possessed nothing breakthrough. The anime provided little other than an great voice acting core and good animation which is expected since most (visual novel) games to depend more greatly on attractive animation and good seiyuus to sell.

While this review is solely on the anime, it is worth noting that many games which are made into an anime just don't make the transition well because the intention of many game-based animes is to ride the publicity of game and market the anime to the existing fanbase. Although, I cannot say that is what happened with Akane-iro, as an anime, it appealed aesthetically like many games in animation and sound, but lacked plot quality to draw any appeal to the storyline.

The major flaw in Akane-iro was that as a story it was neither interesting nor detailed. The characters were underdevoloped and suffered due to a weak plot and occasionally, the actions of the characters or the overall storyline made little sense which created confusion and skepticism. Also, the story was not very original when compared to its other game predecessors that became animes.

In any good anime, there's a hook. The hook was non-existent in Akane-iro and made the anime another failure among the "game" genre. While there are many visual novels that made amazing breakthroughs towards anime, Akane-iro just felt too much like the game and not a romance anime that it should of been.

Akane-iro is most likely another game-based anime to avoid because as okay as the animation is and no matter how good the voice acting can be, nothing than can replace a bad storyline. While many romance viewers hope for another Clannad, Akane-iro is more like another Da Capo.

Akaneiru ni blah blah blah is thought of as another typical harem anime with a stellar cast of seiyuus. Well I rather enjoyed some of them, but that cute voice I remembered in my dream was not there :(

Well anyway, the anime. This is a pretty typical harem anime BUT it has just enough to stand out from the crowd, it doesn't cross genres or anything or present anything new, but what it does it does... pretty well ;p I'd say it's worth the watch if you can. 1 thing REALLY surprised me in the later episodes that just doesn't happen in any anime I'd seen. I'd say but I'd spoil it -_- watch the anime.

Yes, it's another generic harem anime adaption. Why am I watching this you ask? There are two and a half reasons: the character design/ending girl, and the nearly ALL-STAR FEMALE CAST. Go look at the list in this anime's ANN entry and you'll see why: Aya Hirano, Rie Kugimiya, Rie Tanaka, Emiri Katou, Marina Inoue, and a couple more that I recognize but haven't been able to identify nor memorize. (On a side note, it is unfortunate I only knew that Aya and Teh Rie were voicing this so I fast forwarded through nearly everything...) And then there's an unfortunate Wataru Hatano who doesn't have much of a resume currently... but who really cares about the... oh wait, in this eroge the male lead is actually decent. THE POINT IS I WATCHED THIS TO HEAR THE SEIYUU PERFORMANCES, WHICH IS JUST SAD DON'T YOU THINK??? Never mind me, let's review generic harem adaption #34043!!!

Animation: Just by looking at the posters for this anime and you'll get exactly what you see. Elaborate character designs that stay consistent throughout and some good fanservice shots of them. Directing is also nicely done. There are some extreme close-ups and stills, but they are there to keep the general quality up.

Sound: A nice 9 for an all-star female cast collecting paychecks on another eroge cash cow. I enjoyed all of their performances greatly. The OP and EDs are pretty catchy, so try not to skip them. Background music sprinkled here and there to keep the tension up.

The Middle Filler Stuff: From episodes 2 to 8 we are treated to a variety of antics that concern the development of the relationships between Junichi and Yuuhi and showcase the other characters whose names I will not remember. First date, check; birthday party, check; onsen trip, check; haunted house dare, check; school festival, check; vacation somewhere hosted by the rich girl, check; advancing the dreams of a side character, check. Then there are some awesome action sequences featuring Mom and Dad doing crazy shit, which adds to Junichi's overall not-bland factor. Basically, if you like this fluff, go ahead; otherwise, fast forward or skip.

The Romance: I admit, I nearly cried at episode 11 because the drama was actually well done. The rest of the romance was done pretty well, and the ending justifies it. Not that the romance is anything special, but it suffices (unless the girl you were rooting for lost, ah ha ha; that and if you are not into...). Both Yuuhi and Minato were great candidates, and I didn't rage either way when the ending came about. Junichi was made glorified with all the "inner dialogues" sprinkled throughout when he makes a decision, which at least doesn't make him another male lead wimp.

Enjoyment: Having just watched the ending, I realize I sound a little rude in this review. I don't mean it, because I actually enjoyed this anime. However, it really is just another eroge adaption with the usual formula and an above average romantic plot. I do recommend this if only for the all-star female cast.

Sometimes I wonder why I always get suckered into these types of romance/harem/comedy anime, they're almost always mediocre, and lacking in substance. Yet I thought this time would be different, with such a big cast, they really cannot screw up the story, can they?

The animation is good, crisp and fluid, although like most romance comedy type anime, their so called action scenes always leave something to be desired with... But otherwise character designs are very well done, and the animation are very consistent.

The cast is pretty big for this type of anime, with Rie Kugimiya, Aya Hirano, Tanaka Rie, Emiri Katou, Marina Inoue, etc. But it's almost wasted talents besides the 2 main female characters, the rest of the cast were used very rarely and really does not let them use their skills at all. The music is decent, while the OP is a typical anime song, it is catchy and quite well done.

The story is really of a big let down. Even when you haven't much to expect, the story is heavily focused on only one character and doesn't really expose much of the whole romantic situation, and the ending really is a bad choice considering what has happened for the first ten and a half episodes.

As with 99% of the video game converted romance anime, there's just too many girls and too little time to developed. As such, really only the main two characters got any screen time. And even the male character, Junichi, doesn't really have a good background development that shows his supposedly "troubled" past. It's really a disappointment then, to see that there is a really good potential in this love triangle and only to gives such a weak conclusion at the end.

This series starts out decently but quickly falls flat, and without any good character developments, half decent story and even some good ecchi shots, there really isn't much to watch. But then again it's using the same old formula for these types of romance anime.

Junichi is a high schooler living with his sister when suddenly a girl barges into their lives, claiming that Junichi will be her fiancé. Though it sounds just like a more forceful version of Da Capo SS, the difference is that the little princess this time is actually cute and has a real chance at winning the main character's heart.

Akaneiro is a light, comedic harem based around ordinary school life and the after school adventures of the group. I originally picked this up due to a strong list of Seiyuu and they definitely deliver.

Overall, this is a fairly average harem. A good watch for its length if you've got nothing better to do.

The story of an unlucky young man who has the fortune of having two beautiful girls under his roof, even if one of them is his own biological sister. Unfocused and wishy washy, this series is still a great watch with its wonderful aesthetics and strong cast.

The story is about Junichi, a lucky bastard who gets to be the future husband of the daughter of a multi-billion dollar corporation. This story basically follows the lives of Junichi, his sister, and Yuuhi, who was forced to live with Junichi as a means of "testing" his suitability to be the heir of the company. The anime basically depicts their day-to-day activities of the three and their developing relationships.

There are obvious flaws to the originality of the show, but I enjoyed/am enjoying/will enjoy it nevertheless. Most guys would enjoy harems with nicely drawn girls.
