A somewhat different take on the old harem genre, but still a fun one. This story takes a young man and after failing his high school entrance exams shuffles him off to an island where he finds himself living with 12 girls who all call him "Brother". Of course, humor and drama abound as he tries to adjust to his new life.

Its not a complex idea, but the story is well done, and the writing excellent. I found this series endlessly enjoyable as a change of pace from more action oriented series.

Sister Princess is the latest anime that I've finished watching. Why I watch this...because my friend who is a Harem 'Despo'(sorry for slang) person introduced me to Sister Princess.Surprisingly,I didn't fret about my time wasted watching a pointless Harem anime. In fact,I quite like this anime...

Despite the critics and low rating for this anime,it isn't as bad as the impression you are getting when you first had a glimpse to Sister Princess.Yes,perhaps many dislikes this anime as it is bland, pointless and having predictable and boring filler episodes.Watching the same show(of course...),I managed to find the enjoyment whom maybe some couldn't have felt the same way.Reason is because I am the only child and would like to have siblings playing with me(like these cute sisters.fantasies...)Though annoying when Wataru was desperate to leave the island and abandoned her 12 sisters,he realised that he should bear this responsibility to take care of them. Then the filler episode which some might skipped or some might ended up watching other animes.I did neither, instead I raced till the end.I don't regret it and I even thank my friend for this recommendation.Though not romantic or touchy(sorry,my taste),I enjoy most of those fillers when Wataru played with her sisters.

To my view, this anime don't worth to be trash or criticize with.I managed to find bits and bits to fulfill my enjoyment.Still,I have to end this biased part of me as the lone child as the story was really pointless until the part when Akio came.Overall, still an anime well done.

This has to be one of the most deceptive anime I have ever bought! The synopsis leads you to believe it's going to be a fun filled harem anime, but the reality is, it's a very slow, quite boring slice of life anime about a rich kid and his sisters.

Might be worth a watch if you're desperate for something to watch, or if you enjoy something very simple with no action, no purpose and very little excitement.

Despite the overall negative response to this title, I decided to give this one a chance because I thought the premise was interesting and because I'm a real sucker for voice actor extra's ^^. I wish I had listened because Sister Princess flat out stank. I won't know if it gets better half way through because I could barely get through the first 3 volumes.

Probably the most noteworthy flaw that a number of people mentioned are the character designs. I actually thought they were pretty good atleast on paper but once it's animated they look god-awful. Sakuya's is by far the most outrageous character design flaw. She looks really cute on the DVD covers and things like that but she looks totally deformed in the anime itself. Aside from the backgrounds the overall animation was just awful and considering it was made post 2000 just makes it even more unacceptable.

About the only positive thing about this title is the characters themselves particularly the sisters who all have very distinct personalities. Wataru the main character is very bland and he himself put me to sleep on a number of occasions. Despite being classified as a comedy, I only remember 2 or 3 times when I laughed out loud or even cracked a smile and that was usually when Yamada was in the picture. His character design by far is the ugliest yet combined with his very unusual personality, it actually makes him quite funny. Other than that, the story is flat and a real snoozer. It felt really awkward at times too especially when each sister gets her time alone with Wataru as some of them get to be border-line "in love" with their so-called brother.

This was one of the worst titles I've seen in a while and I wish I had listened to the other people who reviewed this one. I just can't go through the agony of watching the other 4 volumes of this series. The guy I rented this title from was pratically trying to give away the series in its entirety to me but the last thing I want these days is a piece of shit title taking up shelf space that will never see the light of day. Don't make the same mistake I did...

Overall this anime is below average for me, it isn't bad but it wasn't all that good..

From the first episode on, I was always wondering how this guy, Minakama Wataru, got so many sisters. I was hoping an episode would say something about it but nope, I guess the creators didn't know either..

Another Thing that bothers me is why they all love Wataru so much? (Wataru is a big wussy o_O, at first I thought he was gay seeing how he reactes to girls >.< and he was always around guys..) I can understand it was because you were lonely in the past but this is too much..! It was gonna turn into forbidden love if it kept going >.<

But the thing i hated most was Yamada. Sorry for ranting but he was the most annoying charactor in the whole series. If i met someone just like him in real life, I'd beat the cr@p outta him >.< no kidding!

However, there were strong points in the series like Wataru's "sisters." I really like how some of them were designed ^_^ and SOME of their personalities.

I think the previous reviewers have missed a bet; I don't think the girls are really his sisters at all. If you listen carefully to what they say, Chikage and Sayuka in particular are dropping hints (see the wedding and beach house episodes) that he's going to have to pick one of them--for some unspecified reason.

I think the writers had a plan, but they chickened out, and made the best with what they had. It would have been WAY controversial for a Japanese show to touch this subject. The theory is too long for posting here. For more info, google Houblog + Sister Princess, and I'l lhave it there by 1/20/06. Or click on the Story Revew for a hint.

Kinda sweet and syrupy fluff, but overall, I kinda liked it.

I wasn't looking for a good plot when I watched this, which is why it didn't dissappoint, I guess.

This is perhaps the second anime series that I found easier to watch dubbed. The sole reason was that I cannot pick out the accents when listening to the voices in Japanese, and with the sheer number of characters it was just easier to keep the voices straight. I think the number of character may have been something of a downfall, though each of the girls was interesting in her own right.

It's hard to see how all these girls could be sisters, seing as how different they all were, not only from Wataru, but from each other as well. Also, it seems that though they were all aware of Wataru, they were not all aware of each other. That's gotta be a family that's got issues. :)

I see a lot of reviews mentioning incest... Though there was certainly some innuendo which I found vaguely disturbing, there's not so much as a single inappropriate kiss in the entire series. (For this, I was quite relieved.)

The story arc was indeed weak, but in most ways less so than your average sit-com (And what does THAT say?) The main character goes through a dramatic change by the end of it, and for reasons which though improbable are consistent with the core of who he is. This is, to me, fundamentally what a story should be.

While each of the 12 sisters is a complete character in her own right, I think each embodies an element of what a younger sister is to an older brother.

Hina likes to play actively, and has youthful enthusiasm. This is the playful younger sister aspect.

Aria likes to dress up fancy and be admired. She also requires understanding and acceptance, and wants to play in ways that would never have been the way that Wataru would have played as a child. This aspect is the one that an older brother doesn't really "get" but finds endearing and charming.

Yotsuba is insatiably curious about everything. Anyone who has a younger sibling (Sister or brother) knows this aspect well.

Rinrin is clever... And broke. :) Younger siblings are often better with technology at a younger age, and isn't the "financial aid" thing taken for granted at some point?

Kaho is enthusiastic, supporting, and a little clumsy. 'nuff said.

Mamoru is the athletic one, who can do things Wataru never could. She helps by passing on some of that to Wataru. This is one aspect of a sibling which relates well.

Shirayuki takes care of the cooking, again, not one of Wataru's skills. As a sister she provides some of the nurturing that he never knew that he needed.

Haruka is kind of a guardian aspect, and an idealised woman. This is for more around the time when a brother realises that his little sister is becoming a woman.

Marie brings out the urge to shelter and protect. This is something that little sisters do (Even if they're as touch as Haruka!)

Shirayuki is the aspect of a sister that is mysterious. The part that we never really understand. (Okay, there are other past life issues there, but that's beside the point!) Wataru almost doesn't see her as feminine for most of the series, despite her looks!

Karen is the aspect which challenges Wataru. She's his equal in grade level, talented at the piano and a capable caretaker for Aria and Hino. (and in Yamada's position, I'd be getting my act together to make a pass!)

Sakuya is the other challenging part. The realisation that your sister is more than just an idealised woman, she's got a romantic side as well. She's the one who "gets" fashion, and how to use it to her advantage. (And okay, I like her best, so what does that say about me? :) )

So I see it as a method to get an entire lifetime (To his current age) of sisters all in one fell swoop. That's a lot to adjust to, and sets the overall stage for a reasonable story arc.

Okay... Enough rambling. :)

(Edit: I was a bit hard on this in places that I shouldn't have been. Scores adjusted.)

I love the opening song, sang by Yui Horie and it will only get better, Yui Horie is the the voice of one of the older sisters, Sakayu!

Will it get any better? NO!
There is not much to say.
12 sisters love they`re brother...that`s the story.
Till the end I was hoping that there came some twist, like one of the sisters was not blood related to him so he could really date her or something like that...but no...every episodes looks like the other one!

Animation: Okay, but could be better...

Sound: Like i said before...i love the OP ^^
The voices were okay...

Story: 12 sisters love they`re brother...that`s it!

Characters: Too much! And a few were very annoying, like Yamada and Aria.

Aria is one of the sisters and had brain damage i think because she talks very slow...talking slow is one thing but don`t give her too much lines or even her own episode! >_<

And then there is Yamada...everything of Yamada is annoying...his appearence, his voice...and he is far from interesting!

The only character who really catched me was Sakuya, not because the voice is from Yui Horie but i thought that her love for Wataru was really different from the others and i thought for a while that she could be just a girl...in love with just a guy...but no...she is just a sister with weird thoughts about her brother ^^
O yeah...and i think she is the cutest of the 12 sisters ^^

The other characters were fine...but not too interesting...

All in all...if you like brother and sister love...26 episodes long...and you don`t give a damn about a story...this is your anime!

This is the lowest score I ever have and ever will give an anime. Why? Because sister princess is the worst. Anyone who has given this anime under a 7 has said the same thing as I'm about to say; Twelve sisters that love their wimpy brother? WTF? WHY WHY WHY?! Why is anime just getting lower and lower until they finally hit rock bottom? This anime is all about INCEST!

Animation- Someone, get me a barf bag. This anime looks like a stomped on horse turd. Absolutely terrible. I think I'm going to go higher Genshiken's animation score now. Everyone has said this as well; WHAT'S WITH THE FREAKING TAROT CARD REUSES?! Every time! EVERY TIME IT'S THE SAME! I'm not even kidding, I can make better animation than this in a one week period using flash.

Sound- Okay, I thought I had heard bad sound before. Every time I heard the op and ed to this anime, those songs I thought were bad actually got BETTER! Does THAT tell you what I think about the sound?

Story- ...

Character- Characters are soooo cliched and soooo ugly and sooooooooooooooo incest and stupid! I just want to grab them all by their little necks and throw them off a freaking cliff!

Overall sister princess bites my butt. It sucks, stay away. Stay fffffaaaaaar away.

I'm very dissappointed after I have finished this series. It has crappy animation, lots of re-used cells, and inconsistent animation. Sounds are pretty confusing too, with that many girls appearing, it is very hard to single which voice is which.

And then there's the story, actually, there is NO story, even when the ending comes, it is confusing at best and doesn't make any sense at all. There are a couple of episodes that are worth watching, but they are few and far between.

The 12 sister characters all have exaggerated personalities, but since they have include every personality available, you might bound to like one of them. But the male character sucked big time, I cannot believe there is such a wussy out there! And he seems to be pretty content to the sudden appearance of the sisters and never bother to finding out how they become his sisters!!!

Boring episodes and boring animation leads this to a very boring series altogether.

It's another harem with yet another shy, indecisive, unmanly guy being surround by girls. This time, 12 sisters!

Whats unique about this anime?
Well, its ecchi level is ultra low for a harem and it's all about INCEST (OMG WTF?!?!)

Animation:
With their 1000 yen budget, this anime turned out to look like turd. Pay attention to how much is animated and how many times something has been reused. The Chikage tarot card scene has been used like 20 times throughout. Also note the still frames and lack of "animation".

Sound:
I admit the voice acting is decent. Some of the voices I really liked (Chikage). But the music was just dreadful to me. The OP song made me shiver

Story:
What story? a guy suddenly have 12 sisters and they all love him. They meet him and get all sugary over him. Yeah....that sums it up quite well. There's a little plot twist at the end and I thought it was terrible.

Character:
Each sister gets an episode but thats not enough to develop their 0.5 dimensional characters.
I personally liked most of the character designs. YAMADA IS THE MOST ANNOYING CHARACTER EVER!! I HATE HIS FACE! HIS VOICE! HIS SCRIPT!! ARGH I hate the main character too. He's your typical shy, indecisive guy. Only more lame.

Value:
It's hard to get by the incest theme. The whole time I had to say "They aren't my sisters" just to make it more watchable

Enjoyment:
it was ok. I really liked Chikage. She's the most unique of the 12 sisters. I like everything about her: her clothing, her personality, her mysteriousness, her voice. Though a bit cliche. If Chikage didn't exist, I would have given a much lower score for enjoyment. Chances are, with 12 sisters, you'll like at least one in some way.

Suprisingly this anime has a sizable fanbase.

Contrary to what some of my peers have said, this wasn't as bad one would think.

At first I was also up in arms over the issue of incest. In the end, however, for some unknown reason it felt more like each sister wanted to superglue themselves to their beloved brother than any vulgar physical desire. Hey, to be honest the level of incest is only slightly worse than Luke and Leia (Star Wars, duh), oh God they kissed tongue and all ewww.....

It has no story and no point, its just more of feel good anime, and on that level it does succeed, but not greatly.

When I saw that all of them were living in the same house, I found my self cyniaclly waitng for all 13 of them to PMS. As women who live together tend to get on the same period, but it never happened.

Together forever gone awry just about sums it up. Cuteness all around where ever you look, but at times such sugary nonsense is good.

So if you looking for a feel good anime without much of a story then you'd most likely enjoy this. If your looking for something more bypass this like a German bypassing the Maginot Line.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to get some fillings.

-Tiny Bubbles in my wine, makes feel fine.
Tiny bubbles in my beer, makes want to cheer.

When I first started watching Sister Princess, my first thought was that this series has way too many characters. I couldn't believe that I would ever remember their names or personalities enough to enjoy the story, and for a while that was true. I stuck with it however, and by the end I had become quite attached to the characters (even if I didn't remember their names).

The animation was adequate, as was the music. I also liked most of the voice talent. There were a couple annoying characters, and it wasn't nearly as funny as it tried to be, but it was still sort of enjoyable... kind of... maybe... from a certain perspective... well, not really. It was pretty bad.

The overall story was confusing and unbelievable and so the main content was filler. Some of the episodes were boring, and others were good. Sister Princess is not the kind of anime where you'll love every episode. However, there are several nice moments throughout the series. I'd recommend this to anyone seeking an anime that for the most part does not have any powerful conflicts (read: boring, don't watch it). It contained strong themes of family and friendship and that was what I enjoyed most about it. I only wish the beginning of the series had better explained the situation so that it could be more believable. Oh well.

I think that it could have improved greatly. The animation and sound was pretty good and the characters' were cute, but I couldn't get into it. And of course this was popular in Japan. They'd never heard of a person having 12 children by 12 different women. Which is really pretty interesting if you think about it. Or don't. It's up to you, not me. I think you should watch it and give it a try. You'll tell by the first episode if you like it or not. So do it.

The story is just too lame. I don't like the story at all. I guy has 13 younger sister!? Damn. that could be TOO MUCH!! I guess Wataru's father has too much X chromosome in his sperm cells! Wataru looks girly too!! This story is telling about the life of Wataru and his 13 sisters. OK, the way it starts seems OK, once it gets into the island, it just more like romance. Is it possible for a younger sisters to date their older brother? NO!!!! Some characters have no contribution to the story at all. It just describe their life for more then 20 episodes. The ending is not really that interesting either. So what if Wataru has to leave the island for his educations? He can go visit his sisters anytime when he's on vacations! His sisters are mad annoying. I just can't take it. I also don't understand that there is a yellow dress and yellow hat girl. Who is she? What is she doing in the series? What is her relationship to Wataru? It never explained.
In general, NO GOOD. Watch it if you have those anime girl fetishes.

Oh my… soooooooooooooo many sisters. How the hell did this guy get so many of them????? I kinda like this anime but the animation was…well…ok…I guess. I despised the scene where they kept showing the one sister who keeps reading the tarot card…what’s the point of it?? They should have just deleted it. This anime has a bit of eerie feeling to it. There is something which just left unanswered. Btw, was he failed purposely in this exam? To tell you the truth, this anime has no plot whatsoever. This is what I like…coz I can just watched any episodes I like. But, this anime won’t make it into my all time favourite… have a go at it…the animation…was dull…I only continue watching it coz of the kawaii sisters. HAHAHA…

Harem shows are nothing new but Sister Princess really streches this tried and tested formula to its very limits and quite often breaks it. Shows with half the number of characters struggle to stay mildly diverting but one with a mind numbing TWELVE takes the biscuit. Every conceivable stereotype in the history of anime is fished out and made into a character here. Now in shows like this, the harem formula demands that each girl must be given at least an episode dedicated to her and the laws of plot continuity and character development requires an amount of episodes several times larger than that. Consequently, the characters here are paper-thin and entirely disposable. Heck, 2 of them even have similar character designs. Similarly the 'plot' is nearly non-existent, replaced instead by episodes about the sisters' individual or collective adventures book-end by a loose, flimsy story about the brother, one Wataru. Which brings me to another gripe. Normally harem shows are built around this one guy,a Mr Bland who is devoid of any personality. To its credit, Sister Princess avoids this. Unfortunately, instead it has a whiny male protaganist that is constantly complaining for most of the show and really is quite a jerk. Minus 100 marks for that. That asides, the art and animation are alright if a tad inconsistent and the music mostly nondesript.
So in all, Sister Princess is a distincly average show that offers little new asides from the sheer number of characters, but really, more is not better, no matter how pretty they may look. The sequel, Repure is slightly better but surely that didn't take too much effort.

This series was okay, but it didn't have a main theme. It didn't seem that the 12 sisters and 1 bro was a family, and it seemed more like a love story. There were alot of unneeded episodes, and only the last few episodes actually had a point. If you like really cute animes about cute girls, i would recommend this one, but there are a ton of other great animes.

Abandoned even by its original creators (there's a reason the sequel series is called "RePure"), Sister Princess, while marginally better than harem series today like Da Capo, Shuffle!, and Canvas, is still proof that the Japanese will buy anything in it as long as it has cute girls in it (and one's of questionable age, in this case).

It's honestly difficult to find something good to say about this series. The girls are all stereotypical, "little sister" figures a la Sasami from Tenchi Muyo!, except not as interesting or as amusing. You have the klutz, the sci-fi / mecha weirdo, shy girl, the girl who loves to cook, the girl who wants to be in a more mature light, the creepy tarot-card reader, etc. There's not a single stereotype you haven't seen before. Wataru is a cardboard cutout character; he could've been replaced by any other harem male and it wouldn't make a difference. His rival for love (not really), who spends his days watchin mecha series and talking to Wataru's sisters, is ugly and annoying. He can take them all off Wataru's hands for him, for all I care. 12 girls is just too many; 5 or even 6 would have worked, but this is just too much.

The animation is poor; it's obvious that making cute girls was the only thing on the animation team's mind in this series. CG, when used, is very bad. Backgrounds are alright, but there aren't a lot of backgrounds in this series, so boo to the animation team on that one.

The music is alright, but the girls' seiyuu are actually pretty good for the most part. Horie Yui is best as Sakuya, the oldest of the sisters, and one of the few I could actually tolerate over longer periods of time. It's not that the girls are annoying so much as boring; except for Sakuya and Chiaki, the cast is laregly forgettable. Even the heroine, Karen, is kind of dull; she makes Fujisaki Shiori look like Lina Inverse in terms of excitement.

There's really no plot to Sister Princess; Wataru tries to get into high school, fails, and is whisked away to Promised Island, where he meets his twelve little siters. Slice-of-life cuteness involving Wataru and the girls occurs. At 26 episodes, and with a cast as dull and forgettable as this, it's simply too long to hold anyone's interest. Not to mention there isn't any actual story until the final episodes; the first 23 or so are just cute antics. I never actually finished this series, and like hell I'm going to buy the DVDs from ADV Films to find out how it ends. Sister Princess would've worked better as a 3-episode OVA than a full-length TV series. I don't know how good RePure is, but after this, I'm afraid to find out.

Well, we’ve got an ultra recycled story here. One guy, THIRTEEN girls this time. And this time all of them are his sisters! Who da thunk it? And yet they still manage to put in some (albeit not much) innuendo in here. Now, these girls don’t really act too much like sisters but its still weird to see this kind of stuff happening between brother and sister. Well, the animation’s pretty good. The opening is above average; the in-series music is also. The voices overall are very good (Aria bothers me some but that’s just personal taste). The story is pretty recycled but good enough that it gets a decent rating. I really wish they would explain how there can be so many sisters and how the main character ended up living alone with a butler that can pay for him to live in an island with all those people without having to worry about finances and why some friend who’s only known the guy for a month would go through all that trouble to bring him back. Characters are okay. They actually got an episode per sister (I think, there’s so many of them I can’t remember for sure), which is amazing and makes the series seem much shorter. The recap episode is actually very nice since it helps keep track of all the different sisters. Still, most of the sisters are underdeveloped and the main character’s friend (?) on the island is just a pain. Not much replay value here but still enjoyable. Recommend for people who like series with a 13:1 girl guy ratio.
