It has been many moons since I'd last seen this oav series, but I do remember kinda liking it at the time. At least, that was the point of view of a poor sap Australian whose access to anime was really only beginning to open up with early subbed vhs releases (even before my home city had an operating anime club).

Of course, this series was entirely the product of Artmic, a company of whom we should not mention again lest we be struck down by their curse. Suffice to say much of what they produced was fairly workmanlike at best (Mospeada) and completely ragged and nonsensical at worst (various versions of Gall Force, their work on AD Police and Genocyber).

But Gaiarth is simply, well, simple, so it should be hard for even *that* company to get it wrong. (Gawd, I'm turning them into the anime industry equivalent of mentioning Macbeth in a theater ^^;;). It even has a few moments which I continue to quote to frightened newbies. ("Guuuranduuuu Sureiiibaaaaaa" ;)

So, good for the most part. And it has Sahari in it. What else could you ask for? :)

A pretty good short OVA. Rather good universe, characters, and story for the short amount of time they had to work with. The characters are surprisingly memorable, and it's a representation of steampunk when the idea was just getting off the ground. I've always had a fondness for the mixture of sci-fi and fantasy worlds. And besides, hearing the voice actor for Happosai in a completely badass robot fighter with a deep bass voice is worth the price of admission in and of itself. Other than that it's a usual characters get caught up in greater schemes sort of deal, but it's all good-natured fun.

I do remember it seeming rather...unfinished. Shrug. Maybe I'll figure out what happened someday.
