Objectively, this is a pretty good anime adaptation of the final few manga chapters. I read the manga chapters first, and I found that the original medium was not good enough to convey the emotions of the characters. In other words, this shows you how great School Rumble's seiyuu's are.

Nevertheless, I felt like the ending was a true cop out. While it was great seeing Yakumo, Eri and everyone else again after the inconclusive Second Season, it was just not a very good ending. Furthermore, if you haven't read the manga chapters in between, you'll feel like the sudden time jump was too illogical. I don't exactly remember how the second season ended, but I am pretty sure it left out the infamous 'Yakumo slap' and all that.

In the end, this is not a good sequel to the full length first and second season. Rather, it is a well done adaptation of the manga ending. Worth watching? Sure... why not? After all, you watched the first two seasons already. Just be sure to read the manga so you know what happened in-between.

The anime has a very big problem. 1st problem is that 2 episodes does not make a 3rd season, no matter how genius you are at doing it, 2 episodes cannot sum everything. what this anime manages to do is that it starts from episode 25 and ends on 26. This more like qualifies an addition to the previous season without being named into an entirely new anime. If this was named as part of the original anime, then its fine, but its not, and to make things worse, the story actually does not go anywhere.

This anime cannot be viewed on its own because its not meant to be so. Anyone who thinks that they can have a 'shortcut' by seeing this is so wrong.

I never got around to reviewing the first or second season of school rumble and well after this…I won’t even bother

How could a 2 episode quick round-up and series finale possibly take 2 years to make AND be called a entire third season in its own right…what?!?!

Im gonna tell you right off the bat I’m disappointed and surprised with how this turned out…seriously it makes NO sense what-so-ever…although I do have a theory!

Animation

Just like the previous seasons before the animation is very good, designers make use of many effects for some classic facial expressions etc. I like all the character designs its all quite standard for 2005+ animes it always seemed to work well for the series. I mostly liked the many faces of Harima. Op & End Credits are slightly “modified” from the first season which I found weird/lazy as season 2 had a different opening/closing.

Sound

Again Just like the previous seasons before the sound is very good. Character voices are quite perfect – the Jap version anyway. I especially like the ending song which as stated before is just a carbon copy of the first season. Not much more to say about this.

Story

***MINI SPOILERS***

So the first 3 or so minutes gives you an ultra fast sum up of what happens in the school rumble universe 3rd semester up to the last days where the first episode (25) starts!?!?!....wtf why do that?

What follows next is basically some lame closure-type drama where you kind of find out where things stand with the whole Harima Crush thing but it just seems like a rushed effort to close the school rumble story, honestly its not like I’m saying “that would’nt happen” but considering it took YEARS for this to come out without another 23 episodes to run things up to it…..its just really baffling.

IF these two episodes where originally added as the finale of season two it would have made a little more sense but then I would have just said the ending was lame. Bottom line they wanted to round up the story quickly….why who knows a theory I have is it might have something to do with the American version which is about to release the end half of season 2 and the writers thought “might as well throw in a ending because we are done with this series”. The timing is just too convenient.
Whatever

Character

School rumble had an excellent cast of characters and I really think a few of them could have stood as a anime series alone even Harima alone was just TOO FUNNY. UNFORTUNATELY the series kinda drifted around too much (especially in SR2) to know if some characters’ would get more screen time than others and considering how it ended up I think this series wasted A LOT of great potential.

Enjoyment

Did I enjoy this 2 part rush job of a “season” not really only because it was just a little taste of a great and eventually disappointing series.

Value

If you watched season 1 & 2 you more or less have to watch this but it’s almost guaranteed you will feel short-changed and disappointed. The only way this is worth value is if they just rename it the season 2 finale…..yes I am aware they where called these episodes 25 & 26 but really what was all that wait about if it was gonna end like this anyway?

Personal Rating: ?? out of 10

When I first heard that there was going to be a third series, I was overjoyed. This may have lead to me over-hyping this series but it was still disappointing nonetheless.

I believe this was supposed to be a full anime series but they cut it to two episodes (the last ones mind you) just to give an ending to the franchise. To this I will make two comments:
#1: Missing 20+ episodes means you either have to read LOTS of manga as mentioned by the other reviewers or you'll have to just deal with missing context as I did.
#2: The ending totally fails. It is neither an ending nor does it give any sense of conclusion whatsoever.

If you still feel that you want to see an ending for what started out as an unbelievably good show (or if you finished the manga) go ahead and watch. Otherwise, I'd recommend you not watch it as it will lower your overall impression of the School Rumble series.

School Rumble San Gakki was very dissappointing consider the successes of its previous series and OVAs. Somehow it feels like they ran out of jokes and just stopped being funny anymore, there isn't the charm that we've grown to love since 2004.

The animation still feels the same as it was 2004. Which is both bad and good. The good part is the sense of consistency, but the bad part is that this anime is desperately in need of a widescreen hi-def update.

The sound is still the same as in all previous series, almost everyone got a line or two in this series finale. The only sad part is that there is no new OP and ED theme, that would have been cool.

The story is the biggest downfall to this wonderful anime series. It seems there was so much to talk about yet they only decide to those the really last of the story arc that ties everything up. It is very disappointing for most SR fans, as while the last story arc is all good and touching, a decent end to this wonderful series. This 2 episode feels more like a really lacklustre production, especially when all past OVAs and seasons' high points are their hilarious storylines.

We get to see what becomes of most of the characters with this ending story arc. While for the fans of this series, we can understand how the characters evolved into this ending, there is still a big gap for the viewers to bridge in their brain in terms of how the characters have grown throughout the years.

If you have followed the School Rumble anime since its start, you might as well finish it. But for this wonderful series to end in such a wimper, it is very dissappointing for the fans that have been so loyal to School Rumble.

Warning: You must have read the manga chapters from ~180 to ~266 in order to understand WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN SAN GAKKI.

So basically the popularity of School Rumble has died down and the franchise is not a as marketable as it once was. In order to give full closure to the anime, only two episodes were made and released along with the last several volumes of the manga. They DID have a plan for what the first 24 episodes were going to be like, but there was no green light on a full season, so this is what you get.

Well, as a now-anime-veteran, I should have known from the start what School Rumble was going to be like: a love triangle that will never be solved because readers and watchers alike love relationships going up and down and laugh at the breaking ups and misunderstandings. And KT really did make a lot of money drawing for 283 chapters. This is what you should expect, and you should expect what you get. By all means, every semester (first, second, and this) are all funny, but don't expect a concrete ending.

Onto the "third" season: Animation is same old same old. They shifted around the songs and their animation so you can "relive" season one again. The story takes place from chapters ~260 all the way to 283 of the manga, and everything is faithfully adapted, and I voucher that it is BETTER than the manga. That said, I am sure many will be pissed off at what the ending actually is. The characters are all same old same old, too: Harima is still awesome, Tenma is still dumb, etcetera etcetera.

I really enjoyed School Rumble as a comedy, and was just as frustrated at the romance. Too bad the franchise had to end off on a whimper. Thank goodness for Japan and their doujinshis. Be sure to check out School Rumble Z, issued once a month.
