| The Brilliance of old shoujo anime never fails to astound me. Unlike old brainless shounen shows like Dragon Ball Z or Yu Yu Hakusho, shoujo shows always possess at least a mandatory level of inteligence. Yeah, it's girly, but as long as it offers some new insights in anime for me, I'm content. The best thing about Kodomo Omocha is that, despite it's retarded and childish premise it succeeds as a really entertaining and even educating show (remember Full Moon wo Sagashite?). I wonder if even the creators of this anime are aware of the sginficance Kodomo Omocha has in adult world, as it's obviously intended for young female audience. However, it's not even clear whom would like this show better, young girls or older anime cranks like myself.
As long as you don't have shoujo-phobia this show comes with highest recommendations.

| Kodocha is a very cute anime. I found that it started off a bit odd and annoying, childish as well. But after watching more of it, you start to grow attached to the characters, especially Sana and perhaps some of her friends. It was pretty nice how what I thought was purely a comedy turned out to be such a nice drama.
I think its really hard not to find Sana likable. She's probably the mentally strongest character and I find that refreshing given the lack of really strong female lead characters. Sana is one of the few strong female lead characters who doesn't become overly cute or annoying. (although I'm sure some people would disagree on this point) Still, I don't think story was building on her cuteness, more her.. plain absentmindedness when it comes to certain things in life.
Regardless, I'd recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys a good drama while still being able to laugh at the same time.
Of course, there are a couple of episodes that really had nothing to do with the plot, but only a few episodes isn't bad when there are 102 episodes.

| *(this review is based on the eng dub, and yes the jap was good, but I truely believe laura Bailey outdid herself with Sana, and couldn't stop watching the End Dub by Funimation)*
Wow, laugh out loud has never been more true then for this anime!
Don't instantly judge me here on looking at my scoring and thinking I must just be bias and my scoring shouldn't count, Listen up!
I could tell from the beginning that this anime was made for kids somewhere between the ages of 7-14, but trust me, being that I am above this age it is clear that people of all ages could seriously love this anime. (not only that, but it should be prescribed to people with problems with stress)
So, want to hear the truth? I picked up the anime on the STUPID notion that because the director of 'fruits basket' made it, it must be good (which everyone should realize that it doesn't matter how good a director is, the anime could still suck, but this isn't the case).
After watching the first episode you might be surprised to know that I was embarrassed watching it alone. I had high expectation for the anime and after watching the first episode I really thought the entire show was going to be way to childish (I mean come on, Sana is SOOO Annoying in the first episode with her constant 'hurry' line when she is in the car with her Rei). I was really disappointed! I thought to myself, "I will never be able to watch this with anyone esle or people might think I am childish".
But first impressions are BAD! really bad!
I am not saying that after the first episode the style of the anime changes, because it doesn't, and I am GLAD it doesn't.
The expression 'it grows on you' has never been so flat out right about this anime. The childish jokes and ridiculous humor I could only have thought up when I was a kid, after be used SO constantly and the fact you can SEE them coming and yet it doesn't matter, IT IS TOO FUNNY!!
Kodocha or 'Kodomo no Omocha'is a show you can watch with your kids and laugh with them, or a show you can watch by yourself and just get a kick out of, it doesn't matter what age or if you just HATE these kind of animes because you think they are girly (cause it is not girly, yes many girls might like it but I truly believe the humor makes the show) Kodocha is one of the MOST enjoyable anime/show I have ever watched and I absolutely recommend this to anyone that watches animes moderately or passionately!
Animation:
Yes, yes, the animation doesn't deserve the 10 I gave it (maybe a 7 or 8) because it was done back in 1996, and isn't of the best quality TODAY. But the main reason I gave it a 10 is because, the animation had NO affect on my attitudes while watching, the animation could be stick figures and it wouldn't have bothered me. This is because the animation does not affect your overall enjoyment of the anime so should not be considered anything less than perfect, if you believe the anime was perfect.
Sound:
I don't know if it is just me.... but do any of you have sensitive ears? I don't, not at all. I have watched this anime 3 times now and have yet to fulling understand the meaning of Sound quality... I thought it was perfect, because there was nothing at all wrong with the sound when watching it. No random increase of volume (like other animes...), no out of place sound effects, loved the music, and the Voice acting was Tremendously well done. It's Dolby Digital...? I can't see anything wrong with the sound quality or presentation so I stand by my 10.
Story:
Sana is a 6th grade super star (laughs in head from the constant every-episode beginning of Sana saying "HI, I am Sana Kurata age 11). The story starts off as what seems to be just a typical school problem with some rowdy kids, but this is a 'School life' anime I guess you could say, there no use not telling you now, the entire story is the life of Sana when she is in the 6th grade (at moment). So really what I am getting at is, there is NO story, and you can tell there isn't a definite story line (not one like the typical, there is a problem in the beginning somewhere and the goal is to solve it)... So why the 10 on story? Once again I believe that if you never took into account the story to be there or not be there, and you continued to watch purely because you enjoyed it, then was the story bad? If you felt like the anime was a 10, but then when having to put it down into categories like story, then first realizing there wasn't a real one... Why lower what you think of the anime? If you truly believe the Anime was a 10 then the story must have been a 10 because you never thought about it as bad or good, or thought about it at all. This Anime doesn't need a story! It is purely for fun, and enjoyment!
Character:
wow, character design, development.. Well once again I never really cared one way or the other about the design, but the development? I would have to say the characters developed very well in the anime. It was very realistic in the sense you got to know each character for themself and you could practically guess what the character would say (which trust me isn't bad at all in this anime). They also develop as characters in the anime, as if they are real people being introduced to new ideas and swaying their mind. So I would give characters a very yes to nothing less than a 10!
Value:
already on value, sad kinda makes me feel good again just thinking about this anime. Well Value to me, it is most undoubtedly the most enjoyable anime experience I have ever had. I bought nothing less then the first Babbit box set and the vol. 7+8 with the Babbit box set 2 with limited edition Babbit plush and the rest of the dvd sepatly to complete the collection. What? I seriously enjoyed the series so much I couldn't stand not getting only the best for it to be in my collection.
BUT WAIT!!!!!!!! there is one thing I absolutl HATE about this anime I can't let go, and it may force me to write another review about it with all 1s. And that is the fact Funimation has decided to NOT pick up the second season of the anime (based on bad totalings in Japan after it aired). And not to mention... THEY made a preview for the NEXT episode at the last episode on "That's a Warp"............. BUT THERE ISN'T ANY NEXT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!
-better make season two-........

| Kodocha is one of my favourite animes. It brought me hours of non stop entertainment. I just couldn't stop watching it. After every episode was a cliffhanger and it kept you wanting more. The first few episodes were OK but it got boring after a while. The middle school episodes from 50-102 were the best. I'd recommend Kodocha to people who are looking for a comedy with a kick of romance to it.

| All in all, Kodomo no Omocha is a catchy series, and - IMHO - you can laugh at its stupid jokes, or even cry at some parts.
Definately a series which worth watching it - in case you have time for it. Because 100+ parts are a bit too much for some ppl; but definately not for ones who have grown to love it.
*Side note: I really don't say it's the best shoujo-anime; for matter of fact watch Full Moon wo Sagashite if you want to get a pic about a realy well-built shoujo anime.

| This show is so addicting at times (hear the ending song and you wanna see like the next 10 episodes in a row_
It's zany, crazy, wacky, (it is actually that, it's not crazy in the way it's stupid, unlike love hina which was reallly stupid anime) funny, drama, and there's romance.
If you like this anime I recommend Akazukin Cha Cha & Gakuen ALICE

| Refusing to slow down a notch and sugarcoat certain issues, Kodocha is a wacky anime that successfully blends comedy and drama to its own advantage. Because Kodocha is mostly character-driven, the story often takes a backseat to everything else. The first twenty episodes are glimpses into the lives and problem of pre-teens: there’s isolation, fear, loneliness, divorce, teenage pregnancy, you name it. After the first season, however, the story focuses mainly on the relationship between Sana and Hayama. Kodocha is also self-parodying and it pokes fun at shoujos while being one itself. It’s fully aware of what it is and it tells the audience all the rules of the genre and then follows the rules itself. Because it tells on itself, the audience cannot criticize the show for being generic. Instead, we laugh. And you’ll keep on laughing (or crying) all the way to the abrupt but acceptable ending.
Perhaps because of his lackadaisical facial expressions, Hayama is, surprisingly, the best character in the series. Characters such as Hayama are usually my pet-peeve, but unlike the thousands of other anime characters with a similar personality, there’s much more to him than brooding and trying to put on a stoic front. Sana is no push-over, but I imagine that because of her exuberant personality, she’s probably one of those characters that you’ll either love or hate. I’ve read countless reviews that state that Sana and Hayama are opposites. Granted. Let’s get the obvious out of the way. Sana is so cheerful and energetic you want to punch her in the nose and Hayama almost never smiles or laughs. However, it is just as obvious that the two have much more in common than they realize. In an earlier episode, Hayama notices that Sana often puts on a cheerful front (despite how she really feels) to please those around her. Sana wonders why he’s the only one to realize this. As I’m not twelve years old, I know exactly why Hayama is the only one to realize this. The supporting characters are a mixed bag. There are some that are enjoyable to watch (i.e., Tsuyoshi and Sana’s mom) and others that are just annoying (i.e., Zenshiro, Rei).
Although Kodocha is generally an excellent anime, it is not without its drawbacks. Let’s start with Babbit. As the mascot, he gets way too much screen time and mascots should never be on the foreground too often. Unfortunately, Babbit is also the narrator and this sadly gives him a reason to sing HIGHLY annoying (and sometimes lengthy) songs during the eyecatch. Secondly, as with nearly all long anime, Kodocha has its fair share of filler; after the first twenty episodes, the anime is aimless and stays that way until episode forty-five.
The New York arc isn’t even half as bad as most reviewers have made it out to be. The only problem with this arc (other than the fact that it is when Babbit starts singing those irritating counting songs) is that it begins right at the climax of Sana and Hayama’s relationship….and then the audience is forced to watch a fourteen episode hiatus in which most of the cast we come to love does not appear. Brushing aside the poor placement (this arc would have been much better suited had it been immediately after the movie arc and no one would be complaining), the episodes themselves are actually good. In any case, the New York arc isn’t the only hiccup in the story and the worse part of the series is actually part of the first season (episodes twenty-three through thirty-seven) and the batch of episodes in the nineties. In any case, the only serious problem with this anime is that it was created before the manga was complete and that, quite a few times, I felt that it needed to lay off the crack.

| Kodocha used to be one of my favorite animes. Though that was because I had only seen 1-40 of the fan-sub. If I hadn't seen the rest of the series my review probably would have been 9's and 10's. It is also partly my fault for reading the manga because sitting through the boring episodes afterwards I kept telling myself that after all these fillers they are going to get back to the story. It did eventually for a bit but then after that the rest of the series went down hill again. The more children manga's I read the more I notice that if there is anything that might offend a parent(blood, death, sex, self mutilation and anti-social behavior) then they keep it out of the anime. Though even if I hadn't read the manga I would have still been bored through about 35 of the episodes. I suggest watching it up to episode 40 then read the manga.

| Usually there are quite a few titles that involves with a good childlike persona for a storyline. This one does a nice job largely by its share of a storyline in a charmful and zany way. For those that couldn't handle the first season, I wouldn't blame anyone; but it does rather have the purpose for showing the side of herself that could always be known that youth is never as perfect on any levels, no matter how annoying and uneasy of those certain events; whether it was from her own singing, the times of making her ditzy or whatever the case that may be. She was young after all, and that is real as you can believe of what the is or isn't nonsense to the influences that can be taken as a younger child and become likely to space out in her own world, as to being selfish and self-centered at times of making it worthwhile; thankfully later, things do change for the better into that older self and realizing that there are always improvements that can be learned from the bad experiences as well as the good. During her time in the beginning of the series, I can see that it involved a lot of conflicts between the boys and girls type of gung-ho scheme, which isn’t bad for the most part; just very interesting in a different prospective. Sana is the typically hyper kind of girl that has mix feelings with Hayama, the younger “cool and calm” type of guy that seems to be other nerves on a daily basis. The so-called “pimp” who protects her is probably who I found amusing in the series, with gives his non-perceived way of explaining to Sana’s peculiar idea of their relationship. Given a great amount of side character for it, but needed more of a balanced focus of their association with Sana to understand more about her value of the story in general. The animation for this one were decent and had a lot of simple, yet good designs on each characters. The music, from that opening theme song is probably one of the most catchy song’s I’ve heard for a while. I won't spoil the details on this, just find out what you think of the series. But I would give it a fine recommendation on this, for people who particularly love the comedy/drama type of anime.

| Kodocha, best described as a mixture of shoujo and comedy, was a bit of a disappointment for me. Not that it was bad, i thought it was a very good show, but it could have been better and be the BEST anime one could ever watch on Earth.
Personally i really loved the first quarter/third of the show, it was the most funny and wacky part of the whole show, while actually having a REAL PLOT, unlike many other comedy style animes that simply think of jokes to fill up 20-30 minutes. After that the humour part eventually died down though the plot still went on strong, but unfortunately, personally i thought it finished on quite a weak note, with almost no humour and a rather weak story for the final part.
Having said that, i think its still a very watchable show, especially the first quarter/third, and i think most people would be able to find the drive to finish the whole series from that first part. Personally i love the jokes on/by hayama, i find him hilarious with that nonchalant expression of his ^^. Though most other jokes in the show were also pretty damn funny. If they managed to sustain the standard of the first part throughout the whole series, i would definitely say this is the best anime ever created. Unfortunately as it stands , its not the best anime ever created, but its not that far from it. So i would recommend it to everyone who 1) is looking for a good laugh, 2)wants to watch a drama with a good plot and 3)basically just likes shoujo stuff or cute drawings.

| I've seen only 39 episodes but I had to write a review. See below why. :)
From manic to sappy, that's the best way to describe Kodocha. Watching the screen I could just feel energy pulsating from the series.
I am a friend of weird comedy and Kodocha has a lot of that to offer. Never did I have to feel that they should have created funnier jokes. From one absurd situation to other, the series had always surprises in store.
Then come the true shoujo parts. In one second I'm twitching with laughter, the next I'm overflown with emotional melodrama beyond my wildest expectations. And it works, for despite it's wacky appereance Kodocha has stong characters, which instantly appealed to me.
Kodocha has a zany animation style that fits perfectly the series' mood. Same goes for the energetic music. To sum it up Kodocha is fun, cute, touching, exciting, everything. Last time I've laughed this hard, it was with Azumanga Daioh and that is lot coming from me.

| I think Sana is one of the cutest characters of all time. She is the most animated, personable and sweet kid you could ever hope to see. It's romantic and emotional ride throughout her school days. Although a lengthy 102 episodes you have remember between the 1980s - 1990s the animations were very lengthy because that was the standard during the times, see Touch, see Maison Ikkoku, see HYD, and Kodocha. To certain extent Prince of Tennis, Hikaru no Go, Hajime no Ippo.

| Hm...This series is pretty long so i didn't get to finish all of it. I did watch about 30 episodes. So i'll review what i've seen so far. I think this show is great for people who aren't really paying attention.
To me, Akito was VERY annoying. He's just...so...stereotypical, tough guy no emotion but has a deep dark private life kinda character. It's pretty much impossible to relate to him. It's also impossible to admire him as a person (maybe not for a girl). Sana is funny, and really odd. Which is probably the best part of the show, its comedy. This humor has the random comedy of excel saga mixed with slightly more senisble jokes. I still can't get that first episode outa my head. Safe Driving. LOL! That was one of the funniest things i have ever seen.
If you're talking about drama. This show has school rivalry, and childish crushes. But they're blown outa proportion (probably what the show was going for). The drama is nothing out of the ordinary. It's also very corny.

| This series is best described as manic. I love it! Each episode goes at a frantic pace and I always feel like each episode is much longer than it actually is. It feels like the opposite of Azumanga Daioh, but just as funny, and I always want to watch more. It's pretty difficult to get the not-as-good episodes on fan-sub, so what you can get tends to be really good. I love Sana-chan. The heroine truly has a great personality. All the other characters are also unconventional and truly hilarious. I love watching for maron-chan's new house(s) in each episode. I like the frantic pace of the animation and the skillful use of reusing scenes. I love sana-chan's songs, even though they aren't great musically, they're still hilarious. The story seems silly at first, but it also runs much deeper, saying things about family and love and growing up. This is a great anime to watch and the manga is great to read. There are more anime episodes, but it never really catches up to the manga before it ends and the anime gets more slapstick while the manga gets more serious, but they're still both great.

| In today's standards, it would kind of be looked down on. But dont be fooled. This anime is probably one of the best animes I've seen. The episodes have both fun and seriousness. What's really stood out was the cast of characters and the overall development. Without that, this anime may or may not have made it to where it is. Very recommended to fans of anime. For manga readers, don't expect an exact replica of the manga. Expect more goofy than serious. Note: If you do get to see the whole 102 episodes, expect something.

| * Based on first 10 eps *
What can I say? Kodocha is real masterpiece among comedy series. Non-stop FUN. I can compare it with Azumanga (but with real plot and younger characters) or Kare-Kano (with less dramatic scenes and w/o Gainax experiments).
In summary it's TERRIBLE funny and if you enjoyed Azumanga or Kare-Kano - it's your sort of staff.
Animation is not so good (in compare with current standarts), but who cares? It's not important, 'cause it's not action / mecha or smth.
But, it's kinda hard to find this series in fansub (at least in Russia). (and don't say any word about licensing - there is no such term here^_^). So I'm badly want to see the rest.

| Kodomo no Omocha is by far the best anime series - it makes you laugh, cry and I must warn that it is very addicting! I love all the characters (well except the stupid teacher!) But that proves that all characters are defined well.
I'm glad I purchased Kodocha, I mean the subtitles were kinda...not-so-good but then as long as I understood what was happening. And there were abouth three filler-type episodes. But then there are 102 episodes! Hmm, the ending could have been more fulfilling though - oh well. It's still the best one yet!
I never thought that my ex-favourite anime series Fruits Basket, would be beaten by a hyper girl named Sana and a mellow, down-to-earth kid Hayama. Wow, this anime series is addicting...because it was very entertaining and very enjoyable.
