| Linebarrel was one of those series I was looking forward to see. I liked the manga and was hoping that the anime lives up to it. However, in its animated form... things aren't so great as it should be.
Animation - The animation is pretty nice. I've always like GONZO's style... However, sometimes, I feel that they neglect to really make the characters look better than they currently are.
Sound - Not much to say... sounds are sound. You hear one mech explosion, you've heard 'em all. Not really a fan of the opening and ending theme. The hero and heroine voice does get on my nerve sometimes... maybe that's just me.
Story - This is where the problem really occurs. If you've read the manga you'll know what I'm talking about. Sure, I understand the transition from manga to anime requires some changes... but the changes they took were a bit too drastic in my opinion. It seems to the point where the whole story seem altered. The sequence of events are out of place in the anime. Things that you expect to happen (if you read the manga) don't really happen as it should. It just seems really rushed with no real development.
Character - I always thought Yamashita was a chick, honestly... that hair and ear piercing says "chick" to me. Well I recall that manga made her to be a chick whereas the anime made her into a guy. It's rather creepy... Additionally, some of the characters seem to exhibit more annoying attitude than they did in the manga.
Overall, it's not all that bad of an anime... If you're a mech fan, it's something to entertain you for awhile. However, it just feel so... well... cliche... If you read the manga, you might understand what I mean when I say they stray a bit too far from the real plot.
