H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~ is the tale of Hirose Takuma. He has been blind since the death of his mother in a suicide that occured in front of him, and comes to a small village where his uncle lives to live with him.

In this village, there is a legend of a spirit named Otoha. Otoha will grant the wish of a person, but only temporarily. Takuma is suddenly able to see again, and finds himself plunged into a complicated web of deceit, coercion and anger.

The animation in this Anime was decent. As a big fan of Harem and the series being so new I expected more.

The sound from the anime was pretty basic. The characters voices were portrayed like any other series and the background noises were ok.

The story was not bad. Like usual the story revolves around one guy and a bunch of girls but there are 2 girl characters that the story usually revolves around. The boy is blind and is "magically" able to see again when he moves to the village. It has many twist and turns and the ending is one of the best that I have seen from any anime.

All the characters in this series "grow up" and you can tell how.

Overall this anime was one of the better choices and I'm glad that I saw it.

Alert~ This is a bittersweet anime...

Great anime. It's definitely up there as a drama-romance anime. With a little supernatural magic touch and crazy village peeps this anime really drew me in as a viewer. The beginning of H20 is pretty awkward but once you get sucked into it there is no turning back... oh man... I really enjoyed this one... aaall the way to the end.

This anime seems to be an average harem anime at first. However, a second look reveals a flawed attempt at introducing many innovative, but poorly done, aspects to the genre. Though sometimes the characters are entertaining and the story decent, the overall plot line and confusing ending all but destroy what this anime could have been. This show fell way short of what I was expecting.

The first thing you'll notice when you watch H2O is the cruddy animations. I mean the character designs are really plain and there are some inconsistent animations quality. Like Kohinata's hair that stays in the same line length, I mean that's not possible. Well, maybe? The backgrounds are at least decent, but H2O looks like something that should have came out eight years ago, not a 2008 anime for sure. I mean even Fruits Basket has better animations then this .... maybe and that came out ages ago.

OP song, I didn't really care and I usually just skipped it after the first episode and the ED song was the same. Background music was peaceful .... I guess. But there's really nothing that amazing in the background music. But the one thing that irritated me was the voice acting. And that was Hirose's voice, because it does not sound like a man at all. It sounds more like a girl than anything else and why do all the girls like him in this anime? It makes no sense, but whatever it's a harem anime and they always have a flock of girls chasing one guy. The voice actor who did Hirose also did Nanaka from Myself; Yourself and she did a better job, because there she was a female character chasing after a boy. And in Myself; Yourself the main character was voiced by a boy.

Story might be the strongest point of this anime, but still very decent compared to other animes. Right from the beginning you're treated to a girl being beaten up by two guys. That certainly was an interesting start. More interesting then let's say .... wake up brother, you're going to be late for school. Still the story feels half baked with obvious fillers and side-stories that are just plain boring. Bring on the trap stories. Basically the story is about a guy named Hirose who is blind and moves to this peaceful village to turn unblind. Is that even possible? Well, TA DA! He turns unblind by this magical girl named Otoha. And there he meets all these mediocre looking girls and they all fall for him. But somehow the whole village is mean to this one girl named Kohinata and it's up to Hirose to save the world .... or I mean save Kohinata. Did I make it sound interesting? I tried to make it seems as interesting as possible or did you already fall asleep?

The characters were mediocre, with mediocre drawings, with mediocre background stories, and mediocre personalities. I never liked Hirose and most of the time I always find the main male lead to be decent in harem series, but Hirose never really clicked with me. All the other girls were either okay or annoying, especially Hinata. So when it was the time for Hirose to propose to whatever girl he likes .... I had no interest at all.

If you have been catching up with H2O each week after week. You might have heard this phrase. H2O ROCKS YOUR SOUL! And if you haven't shame on you, go watch the trailer for this show. And if you're wondering? H2O DID NOT rock my soul. I'm sorry, it just didn't.

What a frustrating series H2O turned out to be. H2O tries to put a spin on the romance genre with some small-town political twists and fantasy elements. Unfortunately, the story struggles with pacing, where much of the time is wasted on whiny angst. Its too bad because there were some wonderful moments that kept me from dropping it halfway through. Yet the central story plot, Hirose's blindness and its root cause, moved so randomly that I began to think the writers thought about two-thirds in, "Hey he was blind in episode 1 right?" and then in the final episode, "Hey we have to fix this all up in 20 minutes". Add a bizarre ending incorporating the famous story of God and footprints (!), and I couldn't help but feel disappointed in the cheap shortcuts the writers took.

I don't know what it is about this show but despite the animation being so average for a 2008 anime, I looked forward to it every week. Here's my intake:

Another bad anime of 2008 (review based on first five episodes)

Animation (6/10): I see animation failures everywhere. For god's sake pokemon is better animated!

Sound 6/10): just fits the anime. A few good tracks. The best point I think.

Story (4/10): H2O: Footprints in the sand, is harem anime with a melodramatic and romance touch.

The main character is a guy with a perpetual happy expression in his face, but he has enough sadness to have psychological blindness. And then he goes to the mountains to get better (like Heidi's blond friend). There he meets a girl who is poor, is punched by the minions of a rich girl (all aged 12), and is called the school cockroach. He meets another girl that says that he is his destined husband and has a conflicting relation with the poor girl. And there you are: love triangle. A very good history if you are a 12 childish girl. What it's pissed me off is that the end of the first episode the main guy recovers his sight (by magical ways, there is another girl who says to be a forest spirit), and nobody in the series note it. Not even his uncle. It's like "Oh, you are not blind anymore. Make dinner tonight please"

Character (4/10): the good and kind main character, the bad rich girl, the good hearted rich girl and the sad bullied poor girl.... all of this screams Cliché! In five episodes I have seen no evolution at all.

Value (4/10) : I'm not fonded of harem animes, but I think there are more better dramatic animes to spend time with than this thing, like Shuffle! or the more recent Clannad.

Conclusion: don't watch this. Clannad is better in every possible way.
