| Major is just about the ONLY anime that I regularly keep up on. Being one of the best sports animes I've seen, there is no end to the praises I can sing about it. Certainly, this is no Hajime no Ippo, where we get to see Ippo's daily life. But replacing Ippo's charm is Shigeno Goro's fighting spirit and love of baseball that rallies and riles up his teammates, rivals and even the viewer behind his every pitch!
Certainly, other animes have done this and carry similar messages. For example, Prince of Tennis ends in a fashion reminiscent of MAJOR's spirit. The all too familiar 'rivals' that appear in each seasons are also commonplace, so what makes MAJOR different than those other sports animes that seem to be lost over time?
First of all, Shigeno Goro's talent and motivations are very credible. He struggles, he fights, he overcomes, and you can't help but cheer. His spirit alone is what carries this anime, and you can't help but to be allured by his charm when it comes to baseball. Off-field, he is an awkward Japanese boy in a foreign country, but on-field all boundaries are broken and you really feel his spirit emanate behind his every pitch. His never give-up spirit is just spell-bounding.
Of course, it wouldn't be an interesting anime if Goro didn't have his difficult moments. In Prince of Tennis, or Eyeshield 21, the main protagonists never really meat truly adversaries. Perhaps in one or two episodes (rarely three), they seem to overcome the rival and move on. However, the pacing in MAJOR is a little different. Like how previous MAJOR seasons had Toshi versus Goro, or Kaidou baseball team vs Goro, we now have America and Gibson Jr. versus Goro, which really leads to some exciting moments.
Overall, I am so glad I watched MAJOR from episode 1 all the way to episode 104. I really can't wait until the 5th season starts! Truly a feast every step of the way.

| this season of Major turned out to be a surprisingly good anime; it is absolutely worth your time, even if you aren`t a fan of the sports anime genre.
Story
It`s a very solid story, taking us through Honda Goro`s Minor/Major League career and the tragedies that mark his personal life. I thought that some of the happy moments were a bit overdone, and the ending seemed a touch forced, but overall I really can`t complain. It stands on its own well and also does a good job of transitioning from the 3rd season, which is currently out.
Character
Goro definitely has a clearly defined personality, which is a big plus. The drama that goes on between all the characters is as important as whether or not the team wins the game, which really helps produce an impact on the audience.
Between Goro having to overcome the reluctance of his team to care, along with the other players striving for greatness
Overall, it`s a well-balanced cast that has good chemistry and actually does a fair amount of developing as the series goes on.
Animation
The show honestly looks very good. It`s not spectacular, so I won`t give it a 10, but all in all it seemed very well done on that front.
Sound
Neither the OP nor ED were great, but they weren`t bad either. The voice acting was solid, and I always got a big laugh out of listening to the Gibson guy mangle the English language, which is either worth a bonus point or a demerit depending on whether you like quality or the ability to laugh at its flaws.
Value
Honestly, after you`ve seen it and you know how all of the games are going to end, the second watch just isn`t the same anymore. It`s still okay but it`s a major downer to go through it again without any of the suspense.
Enjoyment
Watching Major was an absolute blast, and it comes highly recommended. There are other shows out there that are flashier, or have deeper storylines, but if you`re looking for a fun, interesting series that will connect to you emotionally without putting you through the grinder that many other shows do, then definitely think about giving Major a shot.
