| Upon finishing the TV series, I must say the OVA of Sky Girls (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3710,yekoyu,sky_girls.html) - what started it for Sky Girls TV- didn't do it justice as I felt it showed more weakness than the strength debuted in the TV series. Thankfully whatever that one episode did to start it all here was a investment for the better. This anime was able to lure me in with its loli-pilots in moonslits with light touches in elements of ecchi while pushing me along for a storybook adventure ride that proved enjoyable yet not to have climbed any great heights but didn't get into any deep ditches.

In closing, for what it is, Sky Girls turned out to be a good story. I could see some twist they could have done to signal a sequel. While I honestly cant vouch for a sequel of "sky girls" (in terms of what material can be created for a new sequel), I don't think that a sequel based on Bushou Shinki is impossible- in terms of what more can it give. Only time can tell, but it is best to let Sky Girls be the story of Sky Girls for now and let it be the good storybook adventure of the loli-girl pilots and their crew on the quest to destroy the last of the Weapons of Raid Machines (WORMS).

| Let me describe a show to you. There's a military heirarchy whose leaders are dismissive of the efforts of their soldiers who are the show's stars. The stars pilot mecha, are all young children and the leader of their base of operations treats them as pawns. The show is set in a recovering post-apocolyptic world, previously ravaged by giant creatures intent on mankind's destruction, who have returned and must be destroyed. However, conventional weaponry has little to no effect, leaving it up to the children piloting the mecha to save the world.
Now, did I describe Neon Genesis Evangelion or Sky Girls? Honestly, it could go either way.
The places where Sky Girls is different, is that it is a light comedy with no deep psychological or metaphysical interpretation unless you really want to stretch your own imagination. Which isn't bad, however the comedy is sometimes unispired, with textbook events such as girls being exposed to guys when they go to a hotspring.
The characters are all quite common characters. You have the unsociable elitist (who is slowly won over by the other main characters); the shy-around-guys, smart character (who discovers that boys are a-okay); and the friendly energetic moral one (who will at some point become "profoundly philosophical" probably). Added to this stereotyped mix are characters who would be very familiar to anyone who watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, such as an arrogant, confrontational german girl who joins the pilots.
You would really need to enjoy the show for the animation, light comedy and safely stereotyped characters if you plan on watching this series. It simply isn't offering depth of plot or originality in a number of areas.
