Kite Liberator is the 57 minute 2008 action thriller sequel to the original 1998 OVA Kite. Only slightly connected to its prequel, Kite Liberator significantly out performs its prequel in all areas.

Kite Liberator makes use of computer generated graphics in a highly impressive fashion. It combines drawn characters in computer rendered scenes flawlessly, making some sequences seem highly impressive. Its character designs and background detail are en par with modern day standards, although some character designs could have had more detail. As with its 1998 prequel Kite, Kite Liberator does not compromise much on its action sequences, resulting in excellent fight scenes. Unlike its prequel, Kite Liberator does not contain explicit scenes, which can be seen as a much welcomed change. Overall, from a graphical perspective, Kite Liberator is well worth watching.

Kite Liberator has an ending theme, which is pleasant to listen to and fits in quite well with the anime. The voice acting is also impressive, as are most of the background musics and songs. Also, the quality of the English voiced release is arguably equally well performed when compared to the original Japanese voices. In summary, the audio in Kite Liberator complements its graphics and animation very well; an enormous step up from its prequel.

The storyline of Kite Liberator is heavily underdeveloped. However, a sequel has been announced, which would explain the many scenes which purpose were to raise questions that have remained unanswered. Assuming those questions will be answered in the sequel, Kite Liberator has a nicely paced and exciting storyline. Hints are given throughout the anime to connect it to its prequel, giving the storyline an element of mystery to viewers that have seen Kite. New viewers will still be able to follow Kite Liberator easily however, since the story has pretty much no relation to the prequel. The only area where Kite Liberator falls short on compared to Kite would be the action sequences, which are not as exciting or as lengthy as the prequel. Nevertheless, Kite Liberator establishes a strong foundation for a prequel, arousing the viewer's interest with numerous fascinating questions.

As with the storyline, character development is somewhat lacking in Kite Liberator. A number of interesting questions are raised regarding the characters, which will hopefully be answered in the sequel. Numerous characters are introduced in Kite Liberator, and there are a few unexpected twists regarding their identities. There are also some fascinating characters which only appear rarely, but hopefully this will be remedied in the sequel. In the end, Kite Liberator creates a strong foundation of characters for the sequel if nothing else.

Kite Liberator is significantly better than the original 1998 Kite in almost every way. Its presentation is highly impressive, and it creates a strong base for the sequel to build upon. Kite Liberator would be a good watch for anyone looking for an action thriller anime, and of course it is a must watch for fans of the original OVA Kite.

First off, this series is _way_ toned down in terms of adult content as compared to the original, which is straight up hentai, falling firmly into the 16+ no sex scenes content category.

Except for a couple of minor and unimportant references, this series stands completely on its own with regards to the story

Overall I found it to be fairly enjoyable, with an adequate plot for a one shot action with a hint of scifi OVA, with a schoolgirl turned assassin setup.
