| I must say I really fell in love with this show during the very first episode. Sadly, it didn't last. The first few episodes are great and promising, but pretty soon the story gets stuck and never really gets anywhere.
This show is very reminiscent of ToraDora and School rumble, but where the former is cousy and heartwarming and the latter is darn funny, "Lovely complex" turned out to be neither, but just a tedious waste of time.

| I'm a 23-year-old (straight) male. This is a romantic comedy anime, and not at all what I normally look for. After browsing through the TOP 100 list here at Animenfo, I decided that I'd check out at least one episode. I was hooked after that! The storyline is great, and it is rare that I feel connected to the characters, be they in books, on screen, or otherwise. Those who are in to the romantic genre won't have a problem falling in love with this series, but even if that isn't your main squeeze, give it a try. The Osaka-themed comedy is sure to have you laughing (and maybe even shedding a tear or two!) until the very end.

| It took me about 5 weeks to finish Lovely Complex, when usually I finish anime series within one week. This tells you two things: 1) This anime fluctuates in interest level and 2) The fact that I actually came back and finished this series means it is worth watching.
First, the strong point of this series lies in the characters. Koizumi Risa and Otani are a great combination. The rapid fire back and forth dialogue between these two main characters is the HEART and SOUL of this anime. Without these two charismatic characters, the anime would be absolutely nothing. What makes them so fun to watch? The fact that Risa never gives up and manages to bounce back in every situation makes it hard not to cheer for her. The fact that Risa always remember the good times with Otani despite their awkward situations breaks the tension with a comedic relief. The fact that Otani later mans up and doesn't act so wishy-washy removes any frustration on the part of the viewer. How the two share so many interests and are just so used to each other makes you feel like you've known the two characters all your life.
Second, a comment about the mood of this piece - this romance comedy is very light-hearted throughout. Lovely Complex is on the opposite spectrum to drama-ridden series like Peach Girl or Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. It is full of light-hearted, happy characters that meet a few bumps in the road along their romance path. One of these bumps is their height difference, where they do a magnificent job introducing it as both a real issue, as well as a funny situation. In general, all the bumps the two characters meet are very minor so don't expect any gut-wrenching sob scenes.
In terms of originality and entertainment, LoveCom has its ups and downs. Rather than playing through like one continuous series, there are some obvious breather segments where taking a hiatus would not leave one feeling unfilled. Sometimes the tension is so lacking that I lost my interest and wanted to watch something more action-packed. The distribution of the series was also unbalanced - the beginning spent a lot of time trying to get Otani and Risa together in the first place. Once they even considered each other, the problems they met were very minor in comparison (the guy and girl that came in between them felt like it was just thrown in to test the bond, not to really strengthen their relationship). Anyway, the beginning was the most enjoyable with the end feeling like it dragged along.
Aside from the great two main characters and the comedy between the two, the rest of the characters were pretty useless. In the beginning, they played an important role in providing advice to our two main characters, but towards the end they were kind of just an excuse to go on outings and double-dates. Their presence was also controversial. They put a lot of pressure on Otani to reciprocate feelings for Risa that it made me wonder just how much of his feelings were genuine. Anyway, these side characters are necessary, but not too interesting.
Overall, LoveCom is a very light-hearted romance comedy anime that does its job well. Backed by a strong cast of main characters, LoveCom manages to gain the viewer's interest by having two charismatic characters get through a whole bunch of life and love's scenarios together. Altogether, everything proceeded in a straightforward manner with very few surprises. Nevertheless, it left me with a good feeling and I would recommend this series to those who don't want too much angsty drama, and just want to enjoy a good light-hearted series.

| Risa is taller than average and vows that she will never fall in love with any boy shorter than her. Otani is shorter than average and states that he will never fall in love with any girl taller than him. With both of those characters put together, though, an unmistakable chemistry sparks and the inevitable happens... they fall. :]
When this anime had ended, I was both happy and sad at once. I was extremely happy because the anime stuck true to it's comedy virtue. But sad because it had to end. xD
There were some parts in the middle of this anime (around episode 10-15?) when Risa confesses her love to Otani that became annoying. She would try her hardest to impress him and then he would honestly say how he felt - and then she would cry. They repeated that many times during those 5-ish episodes, but once you got over that, the episodes began to shine again.
My only objection (besides the annoying-ness part) was the last five episodes. They should have made at least 3 more episodes if they were going to squish in more story. So the end result was that the last episodes felt a bit rushed and you couldn't really feel the anime. But the last episode made up for that. It was comedy and tears at once. :] Beautiful.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to watch an anime between two well developed characters that fall for each other. Not because they don't know why, no, because they fit each other. :]

| It`s really enjoying right from the start, it hit off with a quarreling pair, a short guy and a tall girl. Impossible match isnt it? Although the story makes it seemed like there is no other girls or no other available boys for either of the two, and so they have to end it by pairing up.
Plot is pretty realistic and it brings up a point of view, is height really a problematic issue? This series might make viewers in the "wanting to fall in love” mood. It really sell itself purely on the fun and laughters that is experienced during a courtship and not forgetting the quarrels.
Every matter with its brightside must have some not so perfect points and it would have to be the animation which is not very well drawn, but after a couple of episodes, you will settle down to it and just smile ur way through this funny, cute anime.
The ending is not really to my liking though, but surely I sense part 2 coming, just like School rumble, season 1 is fantastic, but then again season 2, I had difficulties pulling through.
I would say 4 stars for the fun it brings out to the audience. Bravo!
PS: It has its own drama too!

| LoveCom is a good comedic romance. It has a sweet story in which the rather obtuse characters slowly recognize that their antagonism toward one another stems from their mutual love.
I watched this after the nightmare of a drama School Days and had a good laugh. The story is chock full of good witty and slapstick comedy, while keeping up with the developing romance between the main characters. Definitely worth watching if "Ouran High School Host Club" was something you enjoyed.
The opening and ending songs in the half were really nice, well suited to the show. The voice acting was done well too, really captureing the emotions of the characters one moment and easily switching to the comedy bit the next.
The only real criticism about this show is that the episodes toward the end seemed a little out of theme, or something like that. With the episodes focusing on the challenges facing all three main couples rather than just the main characters. Yet the show ended on a very good note and back in familiar themes.

| If you're looking for a sweet high school comedy this is definitely for you. LoveCom takes on a rather fast paced love story at the beginning where 172cm tall risa falls in love with 156cm tall otani. I was rather skeptical at first as I like my anime high school cast (males) tall. It was difficult to imagine myself enjoying this anime with the thought of having to see a SHORT GUY in a love story... just odd.
However, I was proven wrong. Their difference in height is what that makes this production so special and unique. It was quite a short series (compared to long ones like Naruto and Bleach). The 24 episodes made me laugh out loud, cry and feel nervous for the characters.
I really liked the first ending song. The seiyuus were really talented too! I guess I might be the only one who finds Otani's voice somewhat attractive but Okamura Akemi played Risa really well, the whines, the screams, the shouts. Excellent. I gave the story an 8 although it might have been a litttle bit lower as it got kind of draggy in the middle. I'm glad I stuck with LoveCom in the end. Other than their height complexities, its a simple heart warming feel good anime which makes you all loveydovy inside. I'm serious! If you like ouran high school host club, you'd probably like this.
The characters were not really THAT well developed, hardly knew anything about the characters' background. It was mostly about relationships. Having said that, 24 episodes might not be enough to compress that much infomation into it and I'm not complaining about this; I was more interested in their relationships anyway.
This review is based on 23 episodes, hence whether the ending was abrupt or disatisfactory or not I do not know. Still worth the watch though!! Art standard was sufficiently maintained through out, pretty good. I'm surprised there are only 9 reviews (the last time I checked) it's really a great anime that's hidden in the shadows. Perhaps there would be more viewers in the future. Definitely worth the time!

| If you are a man reading this, how would you feel if your girlfriend is taller than you by a considerable difference? Or if you are a girl, would it be all right to have a boyfriend shorter than you? Lovely Complex is a series which spins this very old cliché on its head by having the main characters heights reversed. The leads of this series are a very tall girl, and one very short boy. Comedy and drama ensues.

| Now that My Exams are Over... I've Decided to make my comeback by Watching a Highly Recommended Romance Comedy Anime... Lovely Complex~! I have watched the live-action a few months before, so it has overall, kind of spoiled the story for me a bit. T_T... BUT Otherwise, the anime had MORE to It & Was Definitely Worthy of All the Praise it has received~! =D
Firstly, the animation... Well. For a 2007 anime, it is quite disappointing... =( Well, the animation is pretty simple, and is it just the subs i'm watching? or is it really true that the anime could be fooled as from 1998... That's just my opinion, the animation could have been smoother? nicer? more full and colourful? Well, i have to admit though, that the animation style works anyway. x) The Comedy was Great due to the Wacky Animation Style~! XD But then i still get the feeling that, it could have been better. =/ The character Designs were Pretty Great Too~! =D
Then the Sounds? Hmmm... The Sounds were pretty Good. The OP & ED Themes were Great Songs... The Seiyuus did a Pretty Great Job too. But then there were times, however that i felt that the seiyuus could have said their lines better? =/ But Otherwise, The sounds were pretty decent. x) The Kansai dialect makes Lovely Complex an Even More Unique Anime to watch. =D
Now. the Story... Well, this is the Best Aspect of Lovely Complex. 2 main characters with height complexes, who fight and bicker with each other Everyday, shares the same interests & talks at the same time... It was predictable right from the start that the 2 of them will get together... However, troubles and challenges keep coming along... However, these "Obstacles" were often new characters that suddenly "pops" into their lives, events such as festivals, concerts, birthdays or just random moodswings. If you don't like shojo animes, these would probably seem very lame and boring, But It is through all these "challenges" & "obstacles" that Lovely Complex is able to Give its Audience The GREAT Comedy it HaS~! Making sure You will Laugh Out Loud Every Episode~! PLus Revealing more and more characteristics of the characters with every episode...
There are always Jokes with Otani & Koizumi's heights, and lots of "Aura" jokes and "ugly faces". They probably would get old to some people, But I Enjoyed the Comedy Every Single Time~! =D The Romance, which only came later in the series, Was Really Great Too~! Well, i think Lovely Complex main aim was the comedy, sooo the romance wasn't exactly the best, the drama at times could seem a bit "not well presented". however, it is forgivable. =)
The 2 Main Characters are The Main Reason what Makes Lovely Complex SoOoO GREAT~! Koizumi & Otani Out to prove that Heights Don't Matter, & Love can Happen anywhere, anyhow & Can be Successful With LOTS of Hard Work~! Despite such Fairy-tale like situations, because Lovely Complex contains many situations that aren't very realistic, but the anime is still able to Deliver a couple of Good Lessons & Also, GREAT Comedy Plus Sweet Romance~! =D
Because the anime is through the Koizumi's Point of view, viewers will be able to understand Risa's every thought, and support her Actions... & Otani is usually seen as the bad guy but also sometimes, a very sweet person. SoOo, Lovely Complex has Great Characters With Wacky Characteristics, & Basically, all the characters introduced Are able to Provide More Variety of Comedy. XD
However, it is quite sad that sometimes the "other" characters aren't given as much screen time to develop. Cause the variation of love lives would be pretty good to watch as well... =/ But Otherwise, The supporting characters were developed to a decent Extent, with the 2 Main Characters, Koizumi & Otani Developed So Much That I could Imagine Myself Living Koizumi's Life. T_T""" (It makes me wish i could have such a lovey-dovey relationship) That just shows How Moving Lovely Complex is Indeed... Being able to imagine them as though they were Actually Real People. Only Very Good Animes can Do that!!! =O
Lovely Complex ended in a nice way, and makes me wish that i could have more to watch. T_T""". Because the "All Hanshin Kyojin" Couple Has Always Been a Great Fun To watch, All the Way till EVEN the LAST Episode... I'm Definitely going to Watch this anime again someday. =D
Light-Hearted & Fun, Lovely Complex Delivers Great Comedy & Sweet Romance & Great Characters as Well with Great Songs~! It has a certain amount of flaws, T_T""" But I'm Sure Definitely, Lovely Complex is nevertheless One of the Very Outstanding Shojo Animes Out There~!~!~! (^_^)
Definitely REcommended for those who love Romance Comedies & Shojo Animes. If you're an action and fighting freak, then stay away or you'll dislike this. -_-"""

| Lovely Complex is a good shoujo love comedy (hence the pun... slowpoke.jpg) about a pair of comedians with big height complexities and their path to love. Of course, with the boy being short and the girl being tall, LoveCom challenges the male dominance that has reigned over dozens of generations of families and gives new meaning to the feminist movement (damn... the essay I wrote a week ago is seeping into this review!!!). It also manages to provide quick situational and punny laughs while intermingling drama in the form of growing up and maturing into responsible adults. In other words, even with the introduction of height complexity, LoveCom is otherwise a generic but fun shoujo anime that captivates the hearts of all that desire a love comedy and satisfies another tally on the list of shows that makes you feel like you're in high school all over again.
As a typical anime of its type, LoveCom is filled with smart puns and sitcom-type scenes. With Otani and Risa named as is (first episode, can't remember it), expect a ton of laughs from this comedy-duo combination. With the vernacular spoken in Kansai-ben, expect to see lots of tsukkommi-type jokes and just plain weirdness of the dialect being spoken (and if you're praying for a license, hope they just do normal English... or something). Peripheral characters are plentiful and introduced at all points during the anime to keep it fresh and sparkling. And we can't forget lovely trap Seiko, pushing for a spot in the top 10 traps introduced this decade.
The plot is very straightforward. Otani and Risa needs to confess to each other, but tons of obstacles get in their way. Eventually they do, but even then more problems arise. They do all this while progressing through high school. New characters are introduced every now and then.
Looking for a decent love comedy? Look no further! Recommended to fans of Ouran and School Rumble.

| Lovely Complex was an anime that I wasn't expecting to be good at all, but surprise surprise. Lovely Complex manages to stand out from the other romance/drama/comedies there are.
The story is about a tall girl named Risa who falls in love with a short boy named Otani. In school they are made fun and they are called Al Hanshin or something like that, because they always make fun of each other. But when that teasing turns into romance for Risa and Otani. We get a wonderful romance/drama/comedy anime.
One and a half complaints though. The anime tends to speed through the manga which is like really long and cram it into 24 episodes. This is bad and good at the same time. The good is that it keeps the anime up to pace and it never gets slow. The bad is that at some moments it gets confusing and feels like they are totally rushing. But I lean more toward the positive outcome of that decision to speed through the manga, because at least this anime wasn't dragged on to boring land. See Bokura ga Ita. (Which is super slow and super dragged) Second complaint is that Lovely Complex tends to have a whole bunch of short recaps. At least there better than Naruto's 15 mins recaps. Instead in each episode we might get at least one minute of recaps of what happened on the previous episodes. Not bad to remind the watcher, but then at some points it just felt annoying. But whatever the good overweigh the bad and the end result is an anime that is just plain fun to watch.
While the animations are totally wacky and unlike most animes with pretty character designs and colorful backgrounds. The character designs are supposed to be wacky to show the comedy side of this anime. While the backgrounds could add more detail or at least darker shading, but then this anime wouldn't look like a comedy/romance anime at all.
The OP/EDs in this anime are one of my favorite. From the 1st OP to the 2nd OP to the two ending songs we get. I'm impressed that Lovely Complex had a big budget to include two opening songs and two ending songs and all four of them are excellent. Instead of a female squeaky girl singing the songs. All of the four songs are sung by either a boy band or a boy duo. The voice acting is good and fits the character's traits very well. From Risa's voice to Otani's voice to even Suzuki's voice. Background music are pretty good and once I even got the song stuck in my head.
The characters strike me as a fun cast and I'm not just saying it for kicks this time. This cast will make you enjoy the anime much more. Risa who is wacky and falls in love with Otani who is way way way shorter than her. I love all of Risa's different expressions, even though she cries a lot. From the super DENSE Otani who can't even tell love apart from cheese. And all the side characters are wonderful and add into the silliness or the somewhat intense drama in this series.
Lovely Complex will be big hits with people who love romance, drama, or comedies. I loved this series and I was not expecting something this good from Otani and Risa's relationship.

| First of all, when you watch anime, or movie, or anything for that matter, does it move you? I mean in any positive way. If it does, enjoy it. Animation, voices, plot, other details in this case are not really important. I always feel uneasy assigning these marks. "Lovely complex" did move me. Very similar feeling as with "Koi Kaze", "Touch", "Onegai Teacher". Honestly, I'm not sure this is quite normal - to feel that much about imaginary characters, but that's how it was. It did not make me cry, but it kept me thinking all night, and all day, and one more day. Don't think the label "light-hearted romantic comedy" fits to it. The story of love is more accurate. Don't expect stunning gags or wild adventures, or complicated plot twists. This is just how a girl loved a boy. Can not be sure, of course, what girls really thinking, but seemed to me pretty realistic. More realistic than "Kare Kano". Well, yes, it is a comedy, but the goal is not to make you laugh unceasingly all through the show. It is just an attitude how they're are telling the story. Reminds me "Honey and Clover".
Now about marks. Animation - adequate. Nothing flashy or artistic, but conveys what it supposed to.
Story. It is pretty rare to see natural development of feelings. And it is so hard to show it in usual life, with no shinigamies, aliens or terrible accidents.
Music - most of the time fits very well. OP and ED are tasteless, but this is in 95% of anime.
Characters - basically there are only two of them who are live, Risa and Ootani. Others are mostly playing supporting roles. But watching this duo I'm feeling the truth behind. (Side note, this just another confirmation that the quality of acting in anime is much superior to one in live-actor movies).
Value is a vague category. For me there were several moments, dialogs, phrases, face expressions, that literally gave me something. Being not native English-speaking person, not sure what common meaning of "soul food" is, but it was exactly what I got - food for my soul. This is very valuable thing.
Enjoyment, obviously 10, otherwise I'd would not bother writing this.
I'd like to add one more parameter to put a mark to - quality. If you happened to read "Zen and the art of motorcycle..." then you understand what I'm talking about. If not, I can suggest a definition (R.Pirsig will forgive me) - "how good the thing meets its purpose". 10 points.

| An excellent light-hearted romantic comedy with a twist. Lovely Complex follows the story of a tall girl and a short guy, known by fellow classmates as the 'comedy duo'.
Despite their height differences, they have many similarities which are evidently noticed throughout the anime, such as their taste in music, food so on and so forth. As a result, they constantly quarrel which only complements the comedy side of this anime, making it very entertaining. But with each fun-filled episode, you witness Otani and Koizumi's relationship developing stonger (sometimes slower than other times)
I think what got me 'hooked' to the anime was series of events that took place in each episode and how Koizumi and Otani's reacted to each one of them. Especially their exaggeration for each new complication...very amusing.
The characters are lovable, and surprising very believable - especially Koizumi (You'll find out what I mean when you watch it).
The animation reminds me of Bokura Ga Ita (without all the heavy 'drama'). Very bright, simplistic, nothing too impressive but still very good at the same time.
And the OP song is very catchy and upbeat (usually I skip the OP for other anime, but I NEVER seem to sick of the Lovely complex OP song).
Overall I would say this anime is purely for fun, Laught Out Loud moments, scenes that make you go 'aww...' and with the occasional faint scream of frustation as you wish at times the progress between Koizumi and Otani would be faster. But hey, that's what makes it so enjoyble, right?

| Lovely complex is a shoujo high school romance/comedy staring a tall girl, koizumi, and a short guy, otani. While they both have height complexes, the same taste in music, and the same offensive way of speaking, they never seem to get along. Perhaps it's because they are so similar that their classmates laugh at them. Frequently, they'll say the same thing at the same time, leading their classmates to nickname them after a popular japanese comic duo with 1 giant, and one shorty. Of course, this only adds to both their height complexes, and makes them want to talk to each other less.
The first thing you'll probably notice about Lovely Complex is the bright, One-piece like characters and atmosphere. The second will probably be everyone's thick Kansai accents (It's hard for me to tell if it's faked by a voice actor or not, but it's definitely thick). Lovely Complex isn't too unique after that, but it is well done, and its light hearted take on high school love isn't too melodramatic to swallow.
The story in Lovely Complex follows the love triangle (or other geometrical shapes) trend in High school romances, but the series is very comedy oriented, so many of the people the two main characters encounter on their quest for love will be...lets say...extreme. Instead of using the love triangle as a dramatic device, Lovely Complex uses it mostly for comedy. The story develops fast, introducing new plot elements every episode. This makes up for a relatively simple premise. While comedy predominates in Lovely Complex, it's not completely devoid of shoujo drama. When it gets dramatic, it's never really serious or heavy. It may be a little touching, or maybe not, but rarely will it be corny and over the top.
The two main characters in Lovely Complex are rather normal, which isn't very common in anime. Otani and Koizumi aren't really quirky as typical shoujo characters are. Neither of them are unnaturally caring, selfless, ditsy, or cute. They're just a little bit argumentative and confrontational, but otherwise, emotionally normal characters.
A lot of the charm does lie in the animation aspect of Lovely Complex. From the comic animations to the character designs, it's eye catching and pleasant. The story is but a high school romance, and i've never found those to be particularly engrossing, but it's an easy watch, and more than entertaining. For people who may have found Fushigi Yuugi and Full Moon wo Sagashite stray too far from comedy, and dive too deep into melodrama, and perhaps for those who are tired of the genre and want something new, Love Com has some distinct shoujo characteristics, but its way lighter than the typical stuff.
Edit: Agh...I should remind myself...ALWAYs...to never watch shoujo/jousei anime. Where Love Com starts off fast paced, it grows sluggish. Character animations look dimmer and simpler than they had in the first few episodes, and the cuteness of the romance wears out fast. I suppose you can ignore everything in the edit if you are a fan of the genre, as it falls into all the same trappings, which shouldn't bother you if you are a fan.

| This is one of the funniest romantic comedies of the 2007 anime season.
Koizumi and Otani make for an odd couple. Koizumi is a tall girl and conscious of her height and Otani is a short guy and is equally self-conscious. These two fight constantly but they also have a lot of interests in common.
This is one of those stories where you can tell that the two main characters are going to get together eventually, but seeing how it happens is the fun part.
Each episode seems to bring another plot twist so it's always interesting to watch. Long lost childhood friends are found, ex-girlfriends encountered, and new crushes await!
There is some drama here but what keeps you hooked is the development of the relationships between the main characters as well as the bumps and bruises they run into as they try to decide exactly what their relationship is.
This review is based on the first 4 episodes. And I am glad to say they didn't waste time with stupid character introduction filler. Rather we find out more about the characters and their pasts while the story progresses. Never a dull moment in this series so far, you'll find time flying by and already wanting to see the next episode.
Give Lovely Complex a try. I'm sure you'll have some laughs and smiles along the way!
PS Yes the tall/short gags get a little old after a while, but the characters drive the story well beyond the need for the height references. The height difference is more of a convenient setup for the story. Could a tall girl and a short guy work as a couple? Initially the very question seems laughable to Koizumi and Otani, but as the story goes on the characters find out that the height difference is just the tip of the iceburg.
