Kenko Zenra Kei Suiei Bu Umisho (a.k.a. Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho; It supposedly means "The Umisho Nude Swimming Club") is the tale of Kaname Okiura, a young trainer and coach of the Umisho high school swim club. One day, a young woman named Amuro Ninagawa appears in his life. She is a great swimmer and he recruits her for the swim club. Kaname must deal with a male swim club that consists mostly of otaku and perverts, plus the antics of Amuro in preparing for the swim meets.

Kenko Zenra Kei Suiei Bu Umisho (henceforth abbreviated as Umisho) is a 13 episode comedy/sports/romance anime released in 2007, featuring plenty of both avoidable and unavoidable fan service due to its setting.

The character designs in Umisho look very simplistic, but convey the emotions and expressions of the characters in a very effective exaggerated way. The anime is mainly about a high school swimming team, which means most of it is set around swimming pools with scantly/tightly clad shapely characters. As a result, Umisho can be, in a way, described as a fan service galore in terms of animation. Nevertheless, the swimming sequences, as are most other animation sequences, are well animated. There is, however, a slight lack in background detail, and a number of short scenes are too static, especially during the first few episodes.

The voiceovers in Umisho suit their respective characters and enhances their personalities. The theme songs are cheerful, but nothing memorable, as are most of its background music. Overall, Umisho is pleasant to listen to, but not something too impressive.

The storyline development of Umisho would be best described as slow. Not a great amount of detail is given into the various events that happen during the anime, and most of the development that is present is exaggerated and not very believable. Still, those factors do not influence the enjoyment of Umisho by a significant amount. If anything, the exaggerated storyline only brings more humour, and most often more opportunity for fan service, to the anime. Umisho is ultimately a pleasant to watch comedy, featuring a lot of fan service and some romance.

Although quite a significant number of characters are introduced in this 13 episode anime, only about one or two are developed, and not to a great extent at that. However, like the storyline, most characters are present only to add to the humour and fan service. Still, the lack of development does leave something to be desired, which I hope will be present in the very likely sequel.

Interesting character designs, well animated swimming scenes, and plenty of humour and fan service is what would sum Umisho up for me. As a comedy lover, I enjoyed this short anime quite a bit, despite it leaving a number of things to be desired. A sequel seems likely to follow, and I would recommend Umisho to anyone that loves comedy and doesn't mind ecchi. People who are into the sports, swimming, or romance genre might want to give this a go, but I cannot guarantee they will enjoy this anime as much as comedy fans.

A very cheerful ecchi / comedy anime about a high school swimming team.

In many ways (terribly weak "story"-line, totally standard character lineup, good but not amazing animation quality, as well as the "hey-this-doesnt-make-sense-but-it-leads-to-girls-getting-partially-undressed-so-its-allright "- factor) a very average ecchi anime, but unlike with many other of its kind, I actually liked the presentation of the characters in this one. There wasn't too much focus on either of the girls, and the trap of the girls only giving the males attention also has been avoided.

Also, there was no large drama and romance factor either, and the voice actors / music really are extremely cheerful, so this is a great anime to watch when you need some light entertainment, and are male.

On the negative side, I'd say just the comedy is probably not good enough to make this worthwhile to watch if you're not interested in shounen ecchi.

I watched the first episode because the anime had something to do with swimming...

The facial expressions were lively and the music enhanced the cheery feel the anime aimed to deliver... but it is on the edge of being hentai. I don't think they ever showed anything they shouldn't have. It's overall a good anime for lightening your mood between tests, if you don't mind a little insinuation.

On another note, I feel that I should comment a little on that the hentai is saying about swimming...

2'10'' for 100m freestyle is girl's interhigh level in Japan? That's actually quite slow....
Even 1'20'' is a pretty average time for girls of 11-12 years of age... as I recall from when I used to be in a swim club.

What Nanako did in the first episode under the water is called dolphin kicks (named for the fact that it simulates how dolphins swim). Most decent swimmers would be able to do dolphin kicks for 25m without breathing; it really isn't that amazing...
What's really wrong with how the anime depicted it is that if you actually try doing underwater dolphin kicks on your back (facing up), water will enter your nose unless you continously expell some air out...
