| A really good sports anime in the same vein as Eyesheild 21, Hajime No Ippo etc.
But there is one thing that sets this apart from then and thats that unlike for example Hajime no Ippo which focus mainly on the sport, Over Drive has a pretty big focus on the characters and the relationship between Shinozaki and Yuki.

| Firstly, I would like to say that I really enjoyed watching this anime. Animé about cycle racings aren't very popular in Japan, but I'll hope a second season will come, someday.
This review could bring out information about the story.
(The review of nauXolo should be removed. he only based his review on the FIRST 8 episodes and if you watch the anime self, you will discover that his arguments are incorrect.)

| Based off of 8 episodes:
At first, I was excited by the presence of a new sports anime. Would this follow in the footsteps of Slam Dunk, Hajime no Ippo, and other legendary sports animes?
The answer is a resounding NO. Over Drive is probably the weakest anime I have seen in a long time, with a lame main character, lazy progression, and ugly humor. I desperately tell everyone to avoid this at all costs.
Okay, big flaw #1... weak character. Mikoto is a plain pervert. Sure, he may be the beast that changes the whole bicycling scene, but that doesn't prevent him from being an emotionally awkward klutz that is unlovable. The motivation behind his success comes from his perverted and blind love for this one girl. Mind you, this is not Golden Boy kintaro perversion which is so openly excessive that you can't help but laugh. No, this is CREEPY perversion. A kind of... in the closet perversion which is only implied....
Problem #2 - lack of intensity or passion in character voices. It was impossible for me to get into this anime. I just wasn't convinced by any of the character's passions or whatever. Mikoto's love felt scripted and uninteresting. Fukazawa's bad-girl attitude is also a farce. I didn't really bother looking at any of the side characters, but man... the characters just blow.
Problem #3 - horrible humor. Okay, what's with the underwear showing of the MALE character. Why does it just FALL down randomly??? For example, after he joins the Bicycle Club, the two "cool" characters say, we have to be a "Team". He then replies, "What is a team", with a puzzled look on his face. Then everyone stares at him and his pants are down, with his tighty-whiteys showing. Okay... awkward. Other comedy involves more of his klutz socially awkward self, which I just felt more annoyed at than amused.
Overall, I've not been turned off by anything more than this. A lack of passion, comedy, tension, interest, authenticity of any element makes this series one of the worst animes out there.

Disclaimer: The series may happen to 'take off' after episode 8, but damn there's no way I can watch this anymore.
Disclaimer 2: This guy starts out not knowing how to ride a bike... at all.... enough said. And to make things even more ridiculous, he learns how to do it instantly to chase down a stupid headband that girl gave to him on a whim.

| very similar to typical good sports animes like Hajime no ippo, eyeshield 21, kenichi, where the main character is bullied, but then starts evolving.
