For a series that got a well deserved nickname of "Those Who Strip Elves" and which descended into low humor whenever the story lagged, its still a surprisingly fun series to watch. I wouldn't say its the greatest series out there, but its definitely good for a few hours of mindless fun.

This was pretty crappy unfortunately... I mean, it takes effort to screw up the concept of "look, hot elf, strip, boobies!". For having the talent to screw that up, I give the creators massive props. The concept had ecchi all over it, and I think that's what threw me off. But I accepted that after a few episodes and hoped for a good comedy... not too funny either... a few jokes here and there were funny, but I didn't enjoy it that much. So, it's a fantasy anime... maybe some cool fights/magic will make up for the not so funny, not so ecchi... Yet they failed again... The guy can throw a punch or a kick, and the girls suck... So bad action, bad comedy, bad ecchi, bad fantasy... there's not much worth watching this for...

I had wanted to watch this for some time, but shyed away from it because of how unpopular it is. And there has to be a reason why a title becomes unpopular. But I found the boxset and figured I'd give it a try.

While it doesn't hurt to smile for me, I had a somewhat good time watching this, especially with Celcia and Junpei's arguments. I was a bit concerned that this would be all ecchi and perverted, but it was a far cry from that. Unfortunately, when you have 'stripping elves of their clothing' as the selling point of your anime, it's not going to make a good first impression.

Anyway, I sit down and watch this. There's some kind of silent ritual going on for less than a minute, and then a village gets attacked by marine-life gangsters. The HELL? What brought upon this sudden scene change!? That proves to you that the introduction is terrible, and only later does it go into a little more depth. Later? Why not now?

Then things pick up, but not by much. A little character depth here and there. Junpei and Celcia get the most, Airi is somewhere in the middle, and Ritsuko gets the least. Seriously, how does a highschooler get away with operating a T-74 tank in the first place? Then we get near the end. Granted, you get a global peril, but it's hilarious how the second season completely ignores this. TWHE finally get the fragments, and what happens? They get lost again. Can we get a doctor in the house? This anime is suffering Broken Record Syndrome!

What a shame. The concept has potential, but the execution clearly helped me explain why this anime is unpopular.

"Those Who Hunts Elves" is a sub-par attempt at a comedy series set in a fantasy world about three travelers from our world who get transported there by accident. However, there isn't really that much that is funny about this anime; I never laughed once, though some of the scenes were somewhat amusing. Every episode had pretty much the same jokes (Junpei and Celcia arguing, Junpei likes curry, Junpei rips off clothes of elves, Celcia looks funny, etc)

Every episode followed the same pattern; the three of them enter new place, meet a female elf (usually one who is a good fighter/magic user) and fighter her/save the city in order to take her clothes off in the end. There is no resolution in the series; it is obvious that there was going to be a sequel.

You won't find much drama or plot twists in this series; don't expect serious action or exciting battle scenes either. Most of the action scenes are over pretty quick. Also, you won't really find out much about how they entered this new world or much of anything about the new world itself.

As to the characters, none of them are given any background besides some personality attributes and skills. We never find out how Ritsuko can pilot and fire a tank single-handedly, how Junpei ended up in the same place as the other two, or why they accepted being in a different world so easily with no emotion. Junpei and Airi are given more development than Ritsuko, who gets virtually none and seemingly exists only to fire the tank from time to time. Celcia is probably the most childish "ancient Elder and leader of the Elven race" that I have ever seen; I found it completely unbelieveable that she was the leader of her people given how she acted the majority of the time.

The animation was sub-par; still frames and lack of detail characterize the animation of this anime. Also, every elf looks virtually the same, only with different hair color and clothes. The soundtrack isn't very good either; an annoying opening song and a pretty bad ending song join with bad music during the anime and over-the-top voice acting.

I didn't really enjoy this anime and found myself hoping it would get over soon every episode.

Great anime, reminds me of the good old 90's anime. Also extremely funny, which adds to nostalgia.

The two complaints I have is that they don't really fully explain how the three get there in the first place, the anime just starts almost right out of nowhere. Though they do explain how, it's really quick. But, doing the anime from the very beginning from when they transported would actually change the overall feel of the anime.

For those that are into older anime but not too old, I highly recommend this.

And even for those that are not, watch this anyway.

Those Who Hunt Elves is a rather unique anime back in its time. Sometimes it had the randomness and craziness of Excel Saga. This anime delivers what it does best: sight gags and jokes.

Don't expect heavy fantasy elements, which actually doesn't play a large role here. Despite its decent drawings and character designs, it's a poor shame to see Jupei, the karate expert, to defeat his opponents in still frames. You could tell the studio was cutting corners when it did the anime.

The story isn't the most original thing in the world but the absurdity of it may amuse you. The characters are fun to watch, especially Jupei, who is a total idiot who does idiotic things and Celcia, who argues with Jupei constantly.

The ending was rather predictable and sorry excuse to continue for a second season, although the minor climax built before it was kind of good.

Now, the comedy, the focus of this show. The comedy ranges from silly sight gags and lame jokes to some geniuely witty ones. I won't guarantee this anime to make you laugh out loud all the time, but there were moments when it catches you off guard with a rather witty joke! It clearly makes fun of fantasy settings, especially when they deal with elven soldiers with their tank and guns! If only Ritsuko had more personality, she could be a real Sagara Sousuke! Too bad though...

All in all, not a bad show to pick up if you are really bored, but only if you have nothing better to watch. But if you want mindless entertainment, entertain it does

Those who hunt elves is classed as fantasy... but the fantasy elements aren't really strong, it's more like a setting than anything else. It's also classed as action... but the action is lousy at best. This is because Those who Hunt Elves is primarily a comedy, and fans of the fantasy and action genre would be disappointed if they're expecting anything else. Those who are expecting goofball comedy won't be disappointed, however. For I've rarely come across an anime with more goofball comedy than this - I think in one of the episodes the characters actually comments on this themselves.

This kind of anime is one of my least favourite kind, even though I seem to have become more tolerant to it of late. If I could only use one word to describe this, I'd use the word "stupid". "Stupid" practically defines this anime. Stupid actions from stupid characters resulting in stupid situations and stupid comedy pretty much sums up what this anime is about. As a result you get a story full of plot holes and illogical points. Why do they only go around stripping female elves? Why do they let Junpei go around using the least subtle way EVER of getting the job done? And it's not even as if they tried to make him out to be a total perv or anything - you never seen him drooling at the naked elves do you?! He does it with the attitude of a professional, but also does it in an agressive way that makes you think he's some kind of rapist. And why does this girl have a tank?!?!? You can argue all you like about looking too deep into this, but at the end of the day, however silly it's meant to be, I can't forgive such crappy, quickfix setups for its stupid comedy.

Final verdict: Not worth watching unless you like slap stick comedy by the bucketload like Dragon Half. This has very little else going for it.

A very amusing fantasy anime that just failed to be really funny.
It reminded me a little of Slayers, although it lacked the character and story depth to make it a true mid-90's classic.

Those Who Hunt Elves, is a decent action/comedy/fanservice show. As a result the story is somewhat lacking in depth. The story is highly funny though. The characters were probably the high point of this show, as they lent comedic value to watching it. If you want to know more about this decent show read on.

It was quite good comedy. Only week point i found in the show were the filler-eps. It should be 7-8 eps at most. Lot of episodes where they didn't find anything were pretty boring.

Animation and sound were pretty average, nothing special. Story was surprisingly nice, and characters were funny as heck (mostly Celsia and the dog ^_^). Last few eps were a real blast!

I won't think i'll watch this one again. The 2nd season seems so much better, only time will tell. Overall, it's a great comedy if you skip over a few eps in middle of show.

Not bad, not good, ok for watching when you got nothing else left.

Animation and sound are fair, story is pretty good consider they have something to tell us along the way in the jouney. Too bad they didni't go all deep digger for each chars, it would be much much better than left it just go on without knowing anything.

Season 1 end with surpise ending... right... acutally thou, I'm never get surpise or any exictment while watching it. Story rather predictable for my kind and they just abuse the fantasy show so anything can happen. If ONLY they merge the 2 world together I would rate thing much higher... It's a real dissapointment to me.

This is hardcore comedy at it's best! It is without the usual T&A humour (well, save the stripping of elvews) but makes just as good without it, in fact, it proves that t&a is not an essential ingrident in anime humour :) I loved every episode of it and it made me laugh out loud even though I was alone (unsual). Gotta love the initiative to reflect upon what we all think about; How the hell do they wipe their ass without toilet paper in fantasy series? They even dedicate a whole episode to it :O)

Get this, it as good as comady gets :)

At first, I thought this is a hentai or at least, ecchi anime, from reading the summary. But in truth, the ecchi is very tame and done in a kiddish comical way, when compared to others, like green green tv, or maburaho, etc.

It follows a simple plot of collecting magical tattoos, so the main characters can get back to their world. Nothing remarkable, but full of fun.

If you like comedies, do watch this :)

This show's alright. It certainly had it's funny moments, so I can recommend it to anyone who wants a quick laugh. Just don't expect any real story out of this. It's a comedy because of all the ridiculous stuff that goes on, and none of it really makes any sense. If you want a quick laugh without a series story, here you go. Story seekers, look elsewhere.

The premise of this show is funny enough, and I generally had a big grin on my face while watching this. You can't help but love a tank that gets emotional while being in a swords and sorcery world. All the same, the anime itself is pretty weak. Especially when they do that crap to us about the second season. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but yea, I can't even pretend it's great or even very good.

Nothing superb but this does have a quite original plot, but they don't really go too deep witht he plot. this is a nice light-hearted anime with lots of laughs~ and i suppose the first season moves along a little slowly.. but i was entertained throughout the whole first season, although nothing was very spectacular, it was all fun :D

Those Who Hunt Elves is sprinkled with humor and riddled with poor sound, bad dubbing, and a mediocre storyline. However, the storyline is very original, something that most anime series suffer with.

If you can find this series cheap, then I would recommend picking it up and adding it to your collection. However, expect only a slightly above average adventure of stripping.

Another really good anime. Elves is pretty basic in its design but at the same time dosent try to be anything other then a fantasy/comedy that is slapstick in nature.

Driving around the country side on a tank, stripping down elven girls looking for pieces to a spell to send them back to japan, and all the adventures in between. TWHE is sure to please any comedy\fantasy fan.

A story about 3 people who must strip elves in search of fragments of a spell... How could it go wrong? The comedy is outlandish and well executed, characters are likable, and it has character designs done by Keiji Gotoh. The only problem is its highly forgettable mediocre episode count. A fun series, despite some lame episodes, it probably would have been better off as a 6 episode OVA.

OK, there is nothing behind the story, that could be deeper than a newborn duckbill's knowledge of quantum chaos physics, but that doesn't matter at all. Storyline and character development are virtually superfluous because humor is what defines this show and what is offered every minute. Some of the weirdest jokes can be seen here.
