This is possibly the best anime I have ever seen in my life. I don't think I have ever been so excited and anxious for the next episode. The story was compelling and the animation was beautiful. I can't say enough good things about this show. Pure awesome.

After watching the entire series I believe this is one of the best new anime to have graced 2008. The animation is awesome with some 3d visuals and the sound is reminiscent of some of the epic films like spiderman, lord of the rings etc. In fact this is what I would call the first and currently only Epic anime. The plot is good, as well as the scale and magnitude the beings within the anime. This is an excellent thing as with most anime you tend to get lost in terms of power scales. This anime keeps the power proportion. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe it will become one of the top animes once it gets the publicity it deserves.

Based on 8 episodes:

After watching a space-oriented drama/action series such as Battlestar Galactica, something as watered down and unintense as Heroic Age really had a hard time keeping my interest. At first, I was hoping that Heroic Age would be more of this wild boy on an abandoned planet, but before long we have this not-of-this-world anime based on crazy powerful mechas that can easily destroy planets.

Although other reviews mention that the anime improves over time, ANY anime that is based on only FIVE super-powerful organic-mecha beings rely heavily on the main characters. However, Age and the princess are amongst the two flattest characters I have ever encountered. Age's simple-minded behavior and the princess's infalliable 'niceness' just irks me to no end. Furthermore, with super powerful mechas ruling this anime, any side characters have very little role to play.

Anyway, the first eight episodes didn't show any real promise. Moving from planet to planet with repetitive narrow-minded fighting (after all, all the 'normal people' can't really do anything), numerous characters that play minor roles without much elaboration, a somewhat uninteresting backstory, and lack of real promise for future development. After 8 episodes (1/3 of the anime), I felt no real attachment to anything. If you're someone who likes an engaging anime that you can really feel for, I would avoid this.

I can say that this anime has a little mixture of Gundam Seed (or other Gundams) and Star Wars. The reason why I say this is because they fight like them, but they do have their own fighting combat. When I looked at the title I thought it was going to be a time period of when a hero comes to save humanity or bring salvation. I was somewhat correct but the title does fit into the anime really well especially the story. For more details go to the Story section. In Heroic Age they use mecha, space battleships, space monsters, and perhaps some magic abilities. The story starts out as war and tries to resolve war. I think this story is about how miracles happen. I did enjoy this a lot and I would recommend this to anyone who loves action.

Heroic Age is extremely well put together; Complete with a strong score, and very nice visuals. If you are at all interested in its genre this is one of the best series aroundd.

At times the storyline can seem a bit superficial, but as time goes on it is developed well. There is also a strong feeling that an epic conflict is going on, and that the Anime is taking place at the center of it. At the same time, they avoid the trap of all sides developing constantatly growing powers that seems to trap so many otherwise great series. Most importantly, all the components, the visuals, the score, the characters, and the plot come together very well, which is really what sets AGE above and beyond.

It is fast paced, and if you want the whole backstory layed out for you at the start you will be disapointed, but really, that makes the seriest all the more enjoyable.

Heroic Age goes along the lines of a hit or miss for me. While not bad, it's certainly not the cream of the crop in last year's 2007 lineup. In a nutshell, it's just okay...

Animation falls into the middle ground. Don't get me wrong, it looks like the series came from 2007, but it didn't really struck out to me, especially the first few episodes. Dull and slow were the space battles most of the times thanks to unexciting and some recycled footage. The overall appearance o f the series is better though. It all looks so futuristic without the gritty and dirty aesthetic of surroundings seen in some shows like Harlock. Character designs were so-so...I've noticed that Hisashi Hirai, the designer, often reuses facial features from his previous works such as Gundam Seed and Fafner and just made a little retouching and slapped it into their faces. This might be a style of his or something, but it really detracts the individuality of his characters in my opinion.

Sound was good, not great as well. The OP sung and played by Angela is what I found really exciting to listen every time I watch an episode. They're not for everyone's tastes sadly since they might be a little too J-popish for some and the vocalist can reach a high pitch which is unpleasant at times, but for me, the band fits the theme of the story that they played in "Gravitation." The ED, "Azurite", didn't gave me as much of an impression as "Gravitation" was, but nonetheless it's an easy-listening song. So soothing, I get sleepy after one sitting of the song. BGM is what you would expect coming from a Star Wars movie. There is heavy use of an orchestra to provide an element of suspense and excitement over the audience. I like it, but it's forgettable...

Heroic Age's plot is set in an alternate future. Mankind is set on a mission to find the "hero" to be able to stand a chance against the "Silver Race" It's a 26-long space odyssey in short. The story contains some interesting concepts such as "labors" and "Nodos," but the pacing is weird a good amount of time. In the first few episodes, I thought I was watching Star Trek then halfway, it's Star Wars and then Star Trek. The Trekkie parts were boring and uninteresting compared to the Star Wars parts. The end could've been longer to patch up all the holes, little if any, in the series. It tries so hard to be different, in the end, it just ended up as another space mecha series.

Characters were as underdeveloped and dull overall. Sure there are evidences of character interactions and development, but it was too little. No one in particular in Heroic Age that I see as truly likeable or despisicable and that just results in a static, flat mess. I would've liked it more if Age was given more screen time, but most of his time is spent fighting in space. He was an interesting character that wasn't used as much. The supporting characters get much more screentime than him which is a pity. In addition, the romance was pitiful. I'm sorry, but the romantic relationships present here is just god-awful, poorly executed muck. Age and Deianeira's were as close of a romance that you'd ever get, and it's mediocre at best.

Sad to say, but I wouldn't bother rewatching it anytime soon. It's a one-shot deal, once you've seen it, you've seen it. There isn't much to be seen to warrant a second viewing for a seasoned anime viewer. People who are new to Japanese animation could take a look at it as a gateway towards the genre of mecha and sci-fi though I have to warn the convoluted nature that the series emits as well. If you ask me, just start with Evangelion.

Eh, overall, I didn't hate the series in the slightes nor was I blown away with Heroic Age. Just a huge neutral expression was left on my face after finishing it. No, what you see in the end would not become a saga that would fall in to legend, rather to a used bargain bin.

Cliche story of supernatural/superhero main male lead without a clue about anything else + weird female lead with superpowers of her own. Hmmm, heard of this before?

Heroic Age will really please fans of its genre with all the usual cliches that people look for in a action/space/robot anime. However, the main drawback of this anime is the really poor character development. After 20+ episodes the main male lead hasn't changed at all and in fact his interaction has boiled down from human interaction to fighting for over 10 episodes! In fact all he does recently is fight fight fight. It's not even an interesting kind of fighting either, don't get me wrong I like action.

Some people may enjoy an anime with 0 story with the only draw being dramatic climaxes every 10 minutes.

Fans of the genre, please watch. If you are looking for a good story with interesting characters, look elsewhere.

They Heroic tribe inhabitants were to unstable, they are litarlly to powerful. so they even caused worlds to collapse and break apart. So the Golden Tribe captured them when they were only 5 left, and took their immense power and gave them to the other tribes, they were given to the inhabitants of the other tribes, The Iron Tribe recived a Nodos called Bell cross and were given to the child that had survived the crash, The Golden Tribe raised that child, and soon left the universe to cleance another. The Iron Tribe is at the point of destruction after The Bronze Tribe destroyed the homeworld(Earth) and now they are scatterad around the universe.
