| This fairly short series had a lot of potential when I first started watching it in my opinion. The story was fairly original and the animation was very well done. Unfortunately they added some very expected plot twists and would give flashbacks without warning. Sometimes they were bad enough that I lost track of wether we were in the present or past. A decent storyline and good animation helped hold this anime together. If you are looking for an anime with good action, light humor, and a small amount of romance, there are better ones out there, but if you don't want to look further, this anime is at least worth a try.
(Despite all of the pics of Lucia and Sumire together, this isn't a Yuri anime. Yes, I was disappointed too)

| Venus Versus Virus is a series that follows in a tradition of shows in the gunslinging, action anime franchise, mixing paranormal circumstances with religious allusions.
Meet Sumire, a schoolgirl who leads a bit of a double-life: she appears to be a normal student with a crazy, but sweet set of friends, but she possesses the ability to see unique, threatening beings called Viruses. Together, with a gothic-lolita dressed girl named Lucia, they compose Venus Vanguard, an organization that solves case by case of Virus appearances.
One could say that in the episodic beginnings of the series, it mimics a style similar to Nightwalker where it's a matter of having a case presented by a client, addressing that client's situation, and exterminating the badguys-simple as that. Yet, that's the surface exterior of the series overall, as Venus Versus Virus incorporates action, drama, comedy, and romance. As well, a deeper connection to the Virus apperances lies brewing beneath the surface.
Problem overall: it really sucks with any mode of development. Not to mention the oversaturation of dramatic undertones.
Sure, I'll admit there were times I liked the simple humor in this series (Nene-chan and Riku-kun especially), and I could appreciate the references to Lilith and Lucia as religious figures in the outside context of this series. Yet, there are a glaring number of problems with Venus Versus Virus that could not be overlooked: many plot holes, unanswered questions, underdeveloped allusions, relatively weak character development, and above it all: a rather cop-out ending.
I have to give it to the series in some modes, however. Animation, while somewhat shaky at the beginning, really improved over the course of the series. The music is actually rather catchy as well and fits within the scheme of the series. Humor within the series is simple, yet it never completely works its way out of common anime cliches.
Overall, I found myself on the fence between liking this and feeling like I wanted to fall off the series ladder. It's not a terrible series, it just doesn't do that great of a job with the material it works with.

| I haven't seen much of this series yet, but I quite liked it. I very much enjoy the story, the characters are enjoyable, and it has enough plot twists to keep you guessing throughout. Can't wait to see the rest!
