| Typical shonen fare with a coat of pretentious paint. Despite being visually impressive, the film fails to deliver on its promise of being a meaningful experience. Instead, like many other big budget anime, any significance appears tacked onto its glossy, yet empty shell.

| In anime first animation is produced and then the voice actors lend their voices to the characters. But here comes an anime that doesnt follow that rule. First the voices were recorded and then the animation sequences were produced. So you have perfect lip-sync this time.
Based on a popular manga that I havent read yet, Spriggan (or Striker) is the typical action flick, delivering fast paced battles and shootings and an exciting final confrontation with a psychic opponent reminding the kids of Akira. That isnt a coincidence since it is done by the same producer.
I'm sure that the anime works as an introduction to the manga rather than something independent.
Technically it is astonishing to watch. Perfect animation (Istanbul looks like Istanbul, Eastern Turkey backgrounds are convincing, the inside of the Arc is pure sci-fi, the battles are amazing too) and epic score and sound effects in Dolby 5.1 (though I hate that kind of score) guarantee an enjoyable 1,5 hour.
I rented the title and as such it was a good rental. But I wouldnt buy or download the title at all.
Since I'm no fan of pure action movies I cant like that anime. But I recognize that it is a good and carefully designed and directed production so it deserves a spot in the good action anime movies.
If you find it on DVD rent it, or else ignore it, except if you've read the manga prior to the movie or would like to read it after watching the movie.

| Just to point one thing out, can these people PLEASE stop creating these half-assed-no-story-or-character-depth movies and make a series (or at least an OVA)??? During the whole entire movie you have the sense that you missed something or that the movie has previous episodes to back it up..... BUT IT DOESN'T. Like a million other anime movies out there, this is all about the eye-candy animation and blood-and-guts-spilling-all-over-the-place action. (lol sorry for all the hyphenated phrases) Basically, I would say watch it, but only if you want to see alot of guns and dead people.

| Spriggan, like Akira, is based upon an epic manga series. It's really hard to boil down hundreds of pages into one movie, but if you consider that there's a backstory it's a very enjoyable ride. The animation is really top notch. Watch Spriggan for the moment, enjoy the action that's going on and think a little and it'll come together for you.

| "Anime is childish." To convince otherwise, I would show Akira. Or Ninja Scroll. Or Vampire Hunter D. ...or this. In that way, they'll know longer hold the opinion that anime is childish; instead, it's mindless, violent junk that's better suit for the bin. That's Spriggan in a nutshell. It sucks. It has no plot. The stuff about Noah's ark and the psychic kid in just thrown in there. Heh. Noah's ark destroyed the dinosaurs in the Ice Age. Didn't you know? The characters are super-hero archetypes. The tough-talking "go-get em" dude with flat dialogue. The villains talk about being chosen by God. Ha Ha. Fortunately, this movie doesn't try to be something other than it is: a popcorn flick. You're not here for a labyrinthine story. You're not here for complex characters. You're here for the explosions, the action. Nothing more, nothing less.

| I will try to review this as best as possible, but this the first anime I've seen in quite awhile, so bear with me.
Spriggan was an enjoyable film, with a large emphasis on animation and action. The animation was very well done, especially in the fight scenes. The action is probably this movie's greatest claim to fame, as the character development and storyline towards the end of the movie was a little weird.
The sound was pretty good, although the version I had was very quiet.
The storyline, which was entertaining for the most part, was somewhat confusing at the end. Otherwise it was mostly easy to follow and understand.
The chracter development was pretty sketchy, as some characters had minimal character development (e.g. you basically "jumped in" and assumed their character for the most part), while others had no development at all (e.g. you knew he was a bad guy, but it didn't matter because he was killed in 2 minutes or less).
The movie was very enjoyable because of the action. Rarely in this film was there anything happening that didn't catch your attention.

| Spriggan is your typical anime action movie. By typical action movie, I mean the following: they gear the show more towards awesome visuals, intense fight scenes, explosions, and incredible sound... thus leaving the viewer stunned more by the visual feast than the story and characters behind it.
Since youre only there for an hour and 30 minute movie, youre looking for a quick fix of entertainment and action. For that Spriggan certainly delivers. Still, the character development was extremely minimal (and for some characters non-existant). Although a story involving Noah's arc was interesting, parts of it seemed to be thrown in without explaination. I didnt really like all the negative US attitudes in this movie. In addition believablity/realism is thrown out the window.
So the bad guy used the force of his mind to throw a guy 40 feet into the air,he lands on his head, then gets up "just a little woozy". So its not realistic... it was still damn entertaining. Much like this movie. I still reccomend seeing it, espeically with your friends who aren't hardcore otakus.

| Not that great. Mainly b/c it was too confusing on so many levels. For one, it felt like you were watching one episode of a show where you missed the start. Another thing was that it at first presented itself as a more or less realistic army anime, but then transformed into x-men. It was so beautifully animated that this really was a waste :(. So much more could have been done with this.

| A fun, lite, action-packed adventure reminiscent of Raiders of the Lost Ark, complete with world-shattering ancient artifacts and mystic lore. Lots of bloody fight scenes with ninjas, super-commandos and mindbending psionicists.
The greatest thing about this anime is the high-quality animation. People, machines, buildings, guns and clothing are all rendered very realistically, and the motion is always fluid without any cheap anime tricks like long shots across static boards.
However, the plot is mediocre; typical save-the-world kind of stuff with a strain of anti-Americanism thrown in for no good reason. Spriggan borrows from American action flicks and even older anime like Akira.
In short, a fun action romp that showcases good solid animation. Nothing more.

| What can I say? The animation and scenery rendering is great for an anime of that year(1998) , but the storyline is sub-par ... leaves some plotlines hanging , and of course there's not enough background info on the characters . I still can't figure out what that injection thingie does ... But , action-wise , lots of guns and mindless shooting . Good for a once-off viewing with the guys.

| I want to call this a mindless action flick, but it wasn't really mindless, it just didn't use it's mind for much. The characters are not explored at all, and the one flashback does nothing to help that. If I can't care about any of the characters, or at least be somewhat interested, how can I care about what happens to said characters? and therein lies the fault with this movie. You got some good fight animation, but who cares?
The Animation is quite good, but much of the movie is so dark you can't see what is going on. During the good scenes, there is way too much cuting back and forth, it makes the action very disjointed. It really ruins all the beautiful animation that is most likely going on.
one last thing? how is it that whenever someone in a movie finds some super advanced piece of technology, they always know exactly how to operate it?

| This movie might have done better as a small series, but it tries its' best to explain the backgrounds of the characters that lead it.
The action sequences are pretty ripe with special effects, but don't really explain why it is that the Spriggans are so powerful.
Another story of an insane antagonist trying to take over the world with a protagonist trying to stop the apocalypse, all the while journeying to discover the answers to his own issues.
Worth a watch, not one of the most moving actions out there, but a nifty Sci-Fi idea.

| awesome animation and fight scenes i must admit, animation is very well done and flows very well
the sound wasn't horrifying but it wasn't too good either, it was "ok"
the story is very weird, especially at the end, but still there was a story at least then other movies or ovas.
There was really no character development at all, prolly cuz of all the action, u didn't really know anybody very well, u only meet 2 "spriggans" (there's more then that right?) and u have no idea how or y these guys are killing machines well some of them at least :p
but other then that, enjoyable, but a bit confusing for simpletons :p

| no story whatsoever. very silly characters. but some kickass action in it. ready to blow you out of your chair.
Animation:
damn this is near perfection. its very realistic. it uses a lot of specail effects wich are WOW! good characterdesign. detailed movements. breathtaking fights. a true artpiece.
but does this all be enought to make it an good anime.
Sound:
i found myself not truely enjoyng the seiyuu it wasn't bad or anything but just misses the spot. the backgroundmusic is overwelming at times and sound effects sounded more like a air bugs beeing shot then a real gun.
Story:
here is where the anime starts to lag. its story is rather rushed. and just failed to send out the message its suppose to. it takes on a lot of corners but leave most(more like ALL) of them unended.
Character:
theres no character evolvement, relationships are rather unexplained. this is due the fact from min 1 to min 90 it all action.
Value:
its light. it fails in many ways. an other project wich fails to do what it promised. this is just an other money pomped project.
Enjoyment:
so now and then i can really enjoy a good action movie. this one lured me in with suggesting its packed with more then just action ... and i can assure you its NOT!

| Great action in this flick. Too bad that the last third of it gets downright silly. The first half or so is just so cool to watch tho that I'd recommend it as a whole.
The visuals and sound are superb. The action scenes are fluid; the sound effects are aweome.
The story and characters are average due to the last 1/3 of the movie becoming silly and introducing a ridiculous child villain.
I would watch this anime again more for the audio-video impressiveness rather than the scripted substance. I still enjoyed it more than the average anime film however.

| I had high hopes for Spriggan. I saw a prewiew on one of my other DVDs and thought it looked hot. When I finally got it, I found the story to leave much to be desired. I enjoyed it, but thought it could have been so much better. Basing the entire reason for Spriggan officers to be in existance to retrieve and prevent Noah's Ark from being resurrected, just didn't really cut it with me. I wasn't really all that impressed with the story. The action was pretty good, and I liked the fact that it was serious, I just hoped for so much more.
I enjoyed it, but wished I rented it and not bought it.

| Much like Akira, Spriggan attempts to summarize a much larger manga in the confins of a movie. Unlike Akira, I have yet to read the manga, so I was out of the loop as far as the characters and story go. While the action sequences are well animated and impressive, I found the remainder of the movie boring.
I'll have to pick up a few Volumes of Striker one of these days.

That's all there is to this movie. A simple action-story with some religious connections.
If you like simple storys and simple minded action that does'nt demand any bigger effort of understanding then Spriggan is something for you.
(though it is entertaining)
