| Oddly, the time I picked this up was right when I started reading The Alchemist and watching Over Drive. As such, I found A Summer in Andalusia to be very similar.
The Alchemist and this anime share the same theme: to leave the town to become better and to achieve your dreams. However, to chase your dreams you have to be prepared to sacrifice some comforts and leave behind regret. This is Pepe, a pro cyclist who comes to his hometown on a pro cycling tour.
As Pepe struggles hard to win against the odds, we start to see a little bit behind his childhood and his growing up. We see that Pepe somewhat resents his hometown, that he probably left to escape everything, but that no matter what he does or where he goes - he has family back home that loves him.
Because this movie is only slight longer than 40 minutes, and about half of it is spent on the cycling race, there really isn't much time to develop the character. Rather than a character reflection, this movie felt more like some sort of cultural piece. In other words, I felt like I learned more about Andalusia's culture than Pepe's character.
Either way, I was not bored by this short movie. It may not have left a lasting impression, but neither was it a complete waste of time. I felt like I came out a little smarter, I knew a little more about cycling, a little more about Andalusia (for my book), and a little bit about family.

| I thoroughly enjoyed this film, it was a very pleasant surprise. I can see why most people are bound to overlook it -- it doesn't have violence or indecency or a big marketing ploy -- but the animation is gorgeous if you take the time to appreciate it. The story is simple but compelling, and the editing is tight. It's short and sweet. A great film, I highly recommend it.

A movie taking place in a European setting during a cycling tour in Spain. After the known French animated movie about cycling, here comes another one from Japan.
The movie had some interesting moments except the cycle race like the wedding moments, the songs with Spanish music and Japanese verses (a strange mix indeed), some peculiar animated sequences, an agonizing finale, some nice backgrounds and characters trying to look realistic. So except the final moments that reminded me of Mind Game, you will not see anything peculiar in animation except some folklore moments and some CGI during the race.
Characters for a 45 minute OVA hardly develop but I feel if I hear the movie again dubbed in Spanish it will be a little better. Or if they had sang the songs in Spanish it would make the movie more memorable.
They certainly tried to add a European feeling to the movie and they succeeded for the most part. If you're not interested in European settings in anime or European animation then it will not appeal that much.

| Animax said in their commercial that this was the only anime movie that was included in some international movie fest (Italy-Future Film Festival) so I got a little interested, but I know there's not much to expect after finding out the plot. Actually, it was worse than I expected it would be.
Pepe is a cyclist and he was on a race the day his older brother, Angel is marrying Carmen, Pepe's ex girlfriend. That's all I can write about the story.
More of my bashing, please read (^_^)

| Now they have an anime for Tour de France (or spain for that). Its not really a bad anime, but its not good also. Its just like watching the bicycle race on TV, you get bored very very fast. For most part the animation is very good, and its about showing how the race is about. Other than that, the atmosphere is as realistic as possible. The sponsors are almost realistic, only a slight difference, which for most people you can identify it.
The sound is good, the seiyuu too. The BGM was ok, but then thats just it.
Storywisee is very very boring. Aside from the race, you have a spanish wedding in between and the cyclist is part of the wedding, and the city. So it should be memorable. But thats all to the story.
Characters we have Pepe (the main cyclist) and because its a movie, you seem to know how the ending is going to be which is a major downside to the anime. There is little value in this. Firstly the side story is not good, and the Tour part is just as same as real life. Better watch the real one onTV.
This anime is something new on something real, but it has very little playback value. Only Cycling hardcore fans will keep it. The rest will shy away from it easily.

| A promising story but too short and stumbles overall in its effort.
