| I would say an average anime. Nothing outstanding. Though I enjoyed the story and the characters. The animation is okay, but nothing spectacular, colors reflect very well the overall mood of this anime, kinda gloomy and dramatical, also there are quite a lot of night scenes.
As for the sound, well... I wasn't impressed at all by the OP and ED; there was just one opening song and two ending songs, too hard for my tastes(the endings). As for background music, I can say it was well adapted to the situations, very gloomy again, sad or tensed sometimes, but there was nothing memorable, it was just okay.
The most there is to this anime, in my opinion, is its story and the characters. I was always left with questions, about how was this going to be? what's behind all this? gradually you're going to learn pretty much you need to enjoy this, and by the time you know all this you'd reach eps. 18-19. Main characters are being followed each with their personal lives, being developed throughout this story. 4 different characters with very different personalities put together in an awkward situation.
Overall, I would recommend this anime to watch when you're up for something light, it can be quite enjoyable, but don't expect anything spectacular.

| Imagine Gantz without the gore and all the cheesy stuffs and putting the emphasis on the psychological aspects, the real strength of Gantz, and you get an idea about what is Red Garden. If you liked the psychology behind Gantz, you will love Red Garden. All in all, I preferred Red Garden due to the human aspects present through the entire story. If you are hoping to see spectacular fights or a lot of actions, I don’t think you will be satisfied then. The action sequence have been removed almost entirely through the show because the strong points of this anime is about 4 girls having to change their ways of living due to an accident. The accident is the main plot surrounding the story at first, but the perspective change and the girls lives become the main concern. A really nice decision, in my opinion, that make Red Garden a product that doesn’t feel like déjà vu. I even think that removing more of the fighting sequences would have been a great decision.
What I really liked was the feminine touch of the entire show, girl problems, realities, concerns and philosophies. For example, when the 4 girls come to talk about sexuality, one of them implies starting dating for gathering experience. It’s the kind of dialogue Red Garden possesses.
I will describe the girls a little for clearing out a few things:
Rose is taking care of her family. Her mom is in hospital and she need to take care of her family during that time. She is the shy one, the one with a pure heart.
Kate is the smart one. She’s rich and got good academic skills. She’s a little like the leader of the group
Rachel is the glamour girl. Going to parties, hanging out and making fun of others is almost all she can do. Her attitude is her strength.
Claire is the strong girl. She got an iron will. She can handle herself… but…
These girls will change through the anime and come to like each other. Everything they knew will never be the same.
What I really like was seeing all the small matters in life: school, work, family, friend, death… insanity. More the story goes, more the girls got a glimpse of the reality they cannot escape. I really loved the end, it was showing an aspect about existence that I agree with, something about death and living.
I am quite impressed with the result and never though finding a good anime like this while searching for it. It is quite a good surprise in this sea of really mediocre anime this year.

| I'm not really sure how popular this show is....but if I had to guess, then I would have to say “not very” which is kind of sad since this show ain't half bad. Really! Either it wasn't marketed/promoted properly or maybe it's simply the kind of series gets unappreciated and unduly underrated. This maybe in part due to the show's nature and the seemingly juxtaposed genres of both shoujo and shounen, let's see: a group of extremely thin & highly fashion-conscious girlie waifs duke it out with a slew of mutant zombies. Marketable story? I think so....but then again, I have been told I have weird standards. But either way, instead of attracting more viewers with it's cross-platform appeal Red Garden may have inadvertently elicited the opposite effect, repelling both parties [shounen and shoujo] and falling between the cracks since females aren't normally into animes with extreme violence and conversely themes like fashion, hair and dramatic emotions are oft-loathed by males. So whether or not Red Garden will be able to over come this conundrum, only time will tell....I, for one, feel that they will and I do recommend this show to others since it does have a bit of something for everyone.

| Once I got over the jazzy opening theme (love it or hate it), the first thing I noticed was the "Gilgamesh" different look of the characters. New York women must be mostly big nosed, caucasian and annorexic. While this style may not be everyone's cup of tea, it certainly works for Red Garden. The overall animation is solid. The sound rocks on all levels, greatly enhancing all that is said and done. I personally could have done without the occasional singing, which was neither here nor there. Story: Four dead girls have to keep fighting to stay alive....ahem. On top of having to work through the trauma of finding out they have been murdered, the girls have to learn to combat a common enemy. The four main characters are done exceptionally well. All different, rich, deep and fairly believable. It is a pleasure to watch how they get on with their lives and each other as living-dead. Those leading ladies easyly carry the whole show. The pacing like everything else is done so the leads can develop and shine. The rest however takes a backseat: That includes the mystery, which seems to unravel somewhere on the sidelines. It includes the bad guys, who aren't scary. The male characters, who are no more than exchangeable sidekicks. The police investigation, which is always 2 steps behind and hardly brings any new insights. It also includes obvious superpowers, which are ignored for several episodes (You don't jump 30feet into the air and then just forget about it for a few weeks!). If some of the care, energy, thought and development that went into the leads could also have been applied to the solving of the
mystery, the bad guys, and maybe the policework of those two inspectors(they sure started out as very promising personae), this would have been one of my all time favourites. Still if you like character
driven anime, this one is definitely worth watching.
